Chapter 777: Chapter 725: Gatherings and Partings

Sun Mengmeng seldom drank alcohol, perhaps because she was about to leave the next day, or perhaps because this was her last time accompanying Liu Hun, so she was exceptionally indulgent.

As soon as they got in the car, she sped off, taking about an hour to bring Liu Hun to the seaside.

At that time, Sun Mengmeng stood on a rock, arms open, gazing at the endless sea below. Even under the illumination of the car lights, the azure waters were still visible.

“This place is where my parents met, and also where their love was witnessed. Since I was little, I fantasized about bringing my significant other here one day, but over the years, this is the first time I’ve brought someone here,” Sun Mengmeng said, her back to Liu Hun as she gently closed her eyes and spoke to herself.

“Mengmeng, I don’t deserve you doing this,” Liu Hun said with a wistful smile as he watched her lonely figure.

“When I grew older, I gradually understood that living in such a family, it was nearly impossible to have a love like my parents had; so I gave up on that idea long ago. But when I met you, I thought I had found my world, only to realize I was wrong; everything was just wishful thinking on my part,” Sun Mengmeng continued without addressing Liu Hun’s words.

Facing Sun Mengmeng’s deep affection, Liu Hun opened his mouth to speak but ultimately said nothing.

Some things were doomed from the start, and Liu Hun knew very well he couldn’t bring happiness to someone else in his life.

Even though he was moved, Liu Hun remained silent, which was better for Sun Mengmeng.

“Mengmeng, if you had just spoken, even if it was something pointless, I would have stayed no matter what my grandfather said, but…” After a while, Sun Mengmeng turned around, her delicate face streaked with tears, showing Liu Hun a pale smile.

“I’m sorry, Mengmeng,” Liu Hun replied softly.

“There’s nothing to be sorry for, maybe we were fated to meet but not destined to be together. Even though after today, we will never intersect again, I still wish you happiness,” Sun Mengmeng said before her body leaned backward.

“Mengmeng!” Seeing Sun Mengmeng’s body fall from the rock, Liu Hun’s face turned pale, and he hurried to the edge of the rock, leaping down without any hesitation.

The rock was almost fifty to sixty meters above sea level; falling from such a height, given Sun Mengmeng’s fragile body, she would either die or be crippled.

A loud splash sounded.

Liu Hun held Sun Mengmeng’s body as they fell into the sea, and after about ten minutes, he managed to bring her to the shore.

“Why would you do this? You could have died just now,” Liu Hun said as he brought Sun Mengmeng to the car, holding the disheveled figure in his arms with a bitter smile.

“But I knew you would save me. As long as you’re here, I’m not afraid of anything,” Sun Mengmeng found a comfortable position in Liu Hun’s arms, gently closed her eyes, and murmured, “I’m going to Stanford University in the United States.”

Sun Mengmeng stopped there, leaving Liu Hun unsure whether she meant to tell him or if it was just a slip of her tongue, but to Liu Hun, it wasn’t important; he could never go after Sun Mengmeng, else it would mean harming her.

“Let’s go back,” Liu Hun said as he lifted Sun Mengmeng into the car, then drove back to the provincial city.

“Mengmeng, I don’t want to go home,” Sun Mengmeng said as they reached the provincial city, shaking her head while sitting in the passenger seat.

Hearing this, Liu Hun hesitated for a moment but did not refuse. He took Sun Mengmeng to rent a room, then went out to buy a set of clean clothes for her.

As soon as he stepped into the hotel, Liu Hun saw Sun Mengmeng wrapped in a bath towel, her wet, long hair casually draped over her shoulders.

Sun Mengmeng, born into a wealthy family, was exceptionally beautiful. Dressed in just a towel, she was even more tantalizing.

“Change into these clothes; I had them dry cleaned especially for you,” Liu Hun said as he handed her the bag.

“Mengmeng, you promised to spend the night with me, so you can’t leave,” Sun Mengmeng said, her face blushing as she still clenched her teeth while speaking to Liu Hun.

For a girl to speak such forthright words was not easy for Sun Mengmeng.

But she was willing to humble herself for Liu Hun.

Deep affection is the most bitter; Liu Hun, unable to refuse, nodded, then took a shower and went straight to the bed.

As soon as he got into bed, Sun Mengmeng came closer, her arms wrapping around Liu Hun’s neck, pressing her lips directly onto his.

Liu Hun intended to push Sun Mengmeng away, but after hesitating, he sighed internally and let Sun Mengmeng kiss him awkwardly.

Just as Sun Mengmeng’s hands slowly moved toward his lower body, Liu Hun caught her hands and pushed her away, smiling bitterly, “It’s late, let’s sleep.”

Upon seeing Liu Hun’s refusal, Sun Mengmeng’s face, slightly flushed, brightened with a sweet smile and she said, “Brother Hun, that was my first kiss just now. Even though you didn’t take my body, I’m already very satisfied.”

The night passed without words. The next morning, when Sun Mengmeng woke up and saw that the space beside her was empty, a hint of disappointment couldn’t help but appear on her delicate face.

“Awake? Then hurry up and wash up and eat breakfast. I’ll take you to the airport soon.” Liu Hun had just opened the door and handed Sun Mengmeng a bowl of millet porridge.

“Wow, Brother Hun, this porridge tastes so good—where did you buy it?” Sun Mengmeng, seeing this, couldn’t help but smile. Ignoring the towel slipping from her body, she immediately took a sip.

“You fell into the sea last night, and I was afraid you’d catch a cold, so I personally went and bought some medicinal herbs and brewed this medicinal porridge in the hotel kitchen,” Liu Hun nodded and explained.

Hearing this, Sun Mengmeng’s tears suddenly flowed out, and she silently finished the porridge.

At that moment, Liu Hun couldn’t say much more, handed her clothes to Sun Mengmeng, and then turned and walked out of the room, “I’ll wait for you outside.”

The two returned to the Chen family where Chen Wen, the uncle, saw them and his eyes filled with complex emotions. They had not returned all night; everyone was unsure of what might have happened.

Known for her temper, Chen Wen knew it very well, but he still did not disturb them last night.

Regardless of what had happened, it was to be considered a last time…

“Your parents are currently discussing things over there, and they will come to the airport to pick you up; the maid has already packed your luggage,” Chen Wen said after observing them for a moment.

“Uncle, I’ve never liked you much since I was young because you were always so harsh on me, but at this moment, I want to say thank you,” Sun Mengmeng earnestly said to Chen Wen.

Looking at Sun Mengmeng’s demeanor at that moment, Chen Wen was slightly stunned, as if she had grown up overnight.

“I had planned to personally take you to the airport, but since Hun is here, I need to head back to the police station,” Chen Wen nodded, not saying much more.

After Chen Wen left, Liu Hun, carrying the luggage, got into the car and drove Sun Mengmeng to the airport.

“Brother Hun, goodbye.” After completing all the procedures, Sun Mengmeng looked at Liu Hun, reluctant to part.

“Goodbye.” Liu Hun waved his hand, watching as Sun Mengmeng passed through security into the airport waiting hall before he finally turned to leave.

However, just as Liu Hun had left, Sun Mengmeng walked out from a corner, watching Liu Hun’s departing figure, tears falling again as she murmured softly, “Brother Hun, I will wait for you, no matter how long…”

Liu Hun left the airport and drove straight to Shanghe Village.

Cheng Feng and Zhang Fan were leaving; Liu Hun couldn’t stop them nor did he try to, as both were under family pressure, so there wasn’t much he could say.

By early afternoon, Liu Hun had returned to Shanghe Village, and from afar, he saw Cheng Feng, Zhang Fan, and Xu Shimin waiting for him at the village entrance.

The three appeared to have been waiting for a long time.

“Waited a long time, haven’t you? I took Mengmeng to the airport this morning, so I’m back a bit late,” Liu Hun stepped out of the car, smiling as usual, and greeted them.

“Big brother, we… we haven’t waited that long…” Cheng Feng tried to speak but struggled to find words, eventually squeezing out just a few words.

“Come, let’s go to the Forest Hotel to celebrate for you,” Liu Hun said with a smile.

“Big brother, even though we are returning, we are still in the Provincial City…” Zhang Fan started eagerly as they got into the car.

Xu Shimin scoffed and said, “What does being in the same city matter? Different paths in the same city. Previously, due to your statuses, I showed you respect, but now, I genuinely despise both of you!”

“Xu, what do you mean by this? Do you think we want to go back? Right now, when the boss needs people the most, and everything is about to be established!” Zhang Fan was naturally impulsive and upon hearing Xu’s words, he immediately flared up.

“Xu, some things are beyond our control, and you should be well aware of that,” Cheng Feng said with a bitter smile, glancing at the two.

“I’m not actually clear on that, you choose your own paths, not someone else for you; if you are worried about involving your family, there are ways to handle it…” Before Xu could finish, Liu Hun, who was driving, furrowed his brows and interrupted, “Let’s part on good terms. I appreciate your help during this time. I, Liu Hun, am just a simpleton, and some things aren’t worth it nor do they pay off; enough talk, let’s think about what we’re going to eat later, I’m starving.”

Watching Liu Hun still managing to joke with a smile, the three fell silent, but Cheng Feng and Zhang Fan felt very uncomfortable.

They were aware of the implications of Xu’s words, but to ask them to abandon their families and follow Liu Hun into danger was a choice only a fool would make; and unfortunately, neither of them was a fool…
