Chapter 760: Chapter 708: The Target

This is the legend among the mercenary groups—no one dares to provoke them, and even some small countries are extremely wary of these three major mercenary groups; moreover, there are rumors that the current leader of the Zero Mercenary Group is Number One. Since the name is Zero, it is obvious that there is a terrifying person behind the scenes, masterminding this mythical mercenary group.

However, nobody would have thought that “Zero,” reputed to be this legendary figure, was actually just a young man from a small mountain village in Huaxia!

“Now you can choose between their whereabouts and the survival of your family,” Liu Hun did not answer the scar-faced middle-aged man but asked indifferently.

“You promise not to kill our relatives!” the scar-faced middle-aged man stared intently at Liu Hun.

Liu Hun nodded.

“They should have already arrived in Fenglin County by now, but I don’t know the exact location,” the scar-faced middle-aged man said, his face ashen.

He knew that what awaited them next was death…

“What is your objective? And who is the employer?” Liu Hun furrowed his brows and asked.

“Our target is that little girl and Chu Mengyao. Although we also find it strange why two targets would be in the same place, it has nothing to do with us. We are just responsible for killing that girl and kidnapping Chu Mengyao,” the scar-faced middle-aged man continued to answer.

“What else do you know?” Liu Hun’s eyes flashed with a hint of murderous intent upon hearing the answer.

“That’s all we know; we hope you will keep to your promise,” the scar-faced middle-aged man said and then closed his eyes gently.

Seeing this, Liu Hun did not hesitate, and he shot the three dead. In such deep mountains, the death of a few mercenaries hardly raised any concern.

After dealing with the bodies, Liu Hun also sighed in relief. Since they were out to kidnap Chu Mengyao, she probably wasn’t in immediate danger.

But at this moment, Liu Hun’s mind was filled with even more doubts. He initially thought these mercenaries were directed by the perpetrators who killed Lingling’s family, but now it seemed the situation was cloaked in layers of mystery.

Lingling had been cursed with a gu and would naturally die before turning eighteen; there was no need for the enemy to overcomplicate matters. It was even more peculiar regarding Chu Mengyao, as the employer had required her to be kidnapped, not killed. Although Liu Hun found it odd that the mercenaries had kidnapped Chu Mengyao but hadn’t killed Lingling, it seemed that he would not be able to find the answers to these questions now.

Taking out his phone again, Liu Hun called Number One and directly ordered, “After the Hound Mercenary Group is dealt with, copy all their recent mission details for me. A decade of training troops comes down to a single moment of use, now is the time for you to truly serve me.”

“Yes, Zero!” The other party’s voice even carried a hint of excitement after hearing Liu Hun’s words.

“Send a few men to Huaxia; I presume you will find me quite easily,” Liu Hun said and ended the call, then lifted his head to look in the direction ahead.

That direction was Fenglin County.

“The trees wish to remain still, but the wind will not subside; having kept a low profile all my life, in this lifetime, I shall be completely high-profile!” Having said this, Liu Hun walked towards the direction he had been looking.

Liu Hun arrived in Fenglin County as dusk began to fall; with night’s approach, finding those mercenaries would become much more difficult.

He had just reached the police station when Liu Dekai also arrived shortly after; De K’ai was now with beads of sweat as large as soybeans on his forehead. Fenglin County had already seen death once before, and if something happened again, it would place tremendous pressure on this small county town.

In the small county town, murders and the like were rare occurrences throughout the year, not because the county’s security management was excellent, but rather because the low population meant a lower crime rate.

“Kid, what’s really going on here?” Liu Dekai rushed into the police station without any pleasantries and asked anxiously.

“I’m not very clear myself, but it seems to be somewhat related to Mengyao’s family,” Liu Hun took a deep breath and explained to Liu Dekai.

Chu Mengyao is the daughter of the chairman of the Liu Group in Huaihai Province, and her grandfather is even the former governor of Huaihai Province. Although he had retired several years ago, the Liu Family’s influence in Huaihai Province is not to be underestimated.

The reason why Chu Mengyao ended up in Shanghe Village as a mere village chief includes her desire to develop her political career. Another more important reason is that she was fleeing from a marriage arrangement.

Without her grandfather’s protection, if the Liu Family wanted to maintain its exceptional status in Huaihai Province, a marital alliance was undoubtedly the best choice.

“What? Village Chief Chu is the daughter of the Liu Group Chairman in Huaihai Province?” At this moment, Liu Dekai was so startled that he nearly stumbled and fell.

Huaihai Province is a coastal city and one of the fastest developing provinces in the country, which is leaps and bounds ahead of the status of Southeast Province.

If something were to happen to Chu Mengyao, he, as the Village Chief, would not be able to escape his responsibility and might even be removed from office due to this incident.

“What Secretary Liu needs to consider now is finding Mengyao, not worrying about your official hat,” Liu Hun glanced at Liu Dekai, able to see right through the man’s current thoughts.

“Yes, yes, yes, but with such a vast county town, if they’re determined to hide, it’s going to be tough to find them,” Liu Dekai wiped the sweat from his forehead, looking somewhat worriedly at Liu Hun.

“They are international mercenaries, easily identifiable by their physique and appearance. What I need from you now is to release a news piece telling all the civilians in the county town that anyone providing information about the foreigners will be rewarded with one million, and if they manage to catch them, the reward will be ten million,” Liu Hun knew that relying solely on these police officers was practically hopeless.

After all, there is strength in numbers. If the whole county town’s population were mobilized, it wouldn’t be difficult to find these mercenaries.

Hearing Liu Hun’s words, Liu Dekai was also taken aback. Just for providing information on foreigners, it was one million, and capturing them would fetch a reward of ten million. Such an offer seemed terrifyingly generous.

“You’re called Liu Hun, right? I’m An Ran from the criminal police squad. How do you know they are mercenaries?” Just then, a tall girl walked into Liu Hun’s line of sight and directly asked him.

“That’s none of your concern,” Liu Hun replied, although the girl’s figure and looks could rival Chu Mengyao’s, he was not in the mood at the moment.

“Have you seen their accomplices before? If so, I hope you’ll tell the police everything you know,” An Ran’s beautiful eyes were fixed intently on Liu Hun, as if trying to glean something from his eyes.

She had just been transferred from the provincial city, a move that was essentially a form of gilding her resume. After a period of time, she could return to work in the city, but An Ran was always responsible in her work, so she naturally had to interrogate Liu Hun about this event.

“Secretary Liu, do as I told you, otherwise relying on these police officers to find someone, it would be hard to tell when,” Liu Hun ignored An Ran, glanced at Liu Dekai, and planned to drive away immediately.

However, just as Liu Hun was about to get into the car, a young man slowly appeared in his field of vision.

“I know where they are,” the youth approached Liu Hun’s car, looked him in the eye, and said calmly.

Liu Hun eyed the young man in front of him, his gaze narrowing slightly; this youth was the Poisonous Insect boy he had encountered last time when fixing the road in Shanghe Village.

Since then, the police had still not been able to determine who the murderer was, so the young man had been released without charges.

“What do you want?” Liu Hun asked the youth in front of him, sounding grave.

“If I help you find them, I want to follow you in the future,” said the youth. Hearing this, Liu Dekai and An Ran, who had just come over, furrowed their brows.

They both knew this youth – a murder suspect. Although it was ultimately unclear whether the person was indeed murdered, he remained a suspect.

“Why?” Liu Hun continued, ignoring the shocked expressions of Liu Dekai and An Ran at his side.

“Because you’re strong, and you saved me last time,” the youth looked seriously at Liu Hun and said, “If you agree, then from here on out my life, Wang Xiaofei’s, is yours.”

“It seems I still have to pay a hefty price,” Liu Hun said with a faint smile, then continued, “Get in.”

With Liu Hun’s response, a gleam of joy flashed in Wang Xiaofei’s eyes, and he pulled open the door and headed directly for the back seat.

Seeing Liu Hun intending to take Wang Xiaofei away alone, An Ran, as a police officer, couldn’t let them leave so easily. She followed by opening the door and sitting in the passenger seat.

“Liu Hun, do you realize that handling these matters privately is against regulations…” As soon as she got in the car, An Ran glared angrily at Liu Hun.

She had heard Wang Xiaofei’s claim that he had a lead very clearly, so now she was even less willing to let Liu Hun leave.

But she was mistaken; even with her presence, Liu Hun had no intention of bringing any other police officers with them. He slammed his foot on the accelerator, and the car instantly shot away.

“Breaking regulations is a matter for the police, not for me. I only care about saving people,” Liu Hun said lightly, glancing at An Ran, who looked panic-stricken.

“Liu Hun, you’re crazy! Stop the car, stop the car now!” An Ran shouted as vehicles and trees on both sides of the road flew past in a blur.

Unfortunately, Liu Hun seemed not to hear An Ran’s words, as he asked Wang Xiaofei at the back, “Do you know about the Rotting Poisonous Insect?”

“Could it be they’ve harmed others as well?” Hearing the name, Wang Xiaofei’s face changed drastically, anger rising in his eyes.

“If you want to follow me, cut the chatter. I really don’t like being questioned,” Liu Hun’s voice was soft, but it made Wang Xiaofei’s face turn a shade paler.

“I’ve seen it once with them,” Wang Xiaofei said, nodding to Liu Hun after calming his emotions.

“I don’t care about your background or where you come from. Now that you’re following me, you’ll have to do as I say. Do you understand?” Liu Hun didn’t turn his head as he spoke to Wang Xiaofei while driving.

“Yes, I understand,” Wang Xiaofei said with a wry smile, slowly nodding his head.
