Chapter 733: Chapter 681: An Explanation
“If it were you, how confident are you that you can defeat them?” Old Master Zhang, standing beside Zhang Zhongping, suddenly asked calmly.
“Less than thirty percent…” Zhang Zhongping replied with a wry smile.
“Go then, get this matter clear.” Old Master Zhang pondered for a moment, then nodded to Zhang Zhongping, instructing him.
“I am from the Provincial Disciplinary Inspection Committee, my name is Zhang Zhongping. Although this matter isn’t within my jurisdiction, since such an incident has occurred, I hope Secretary Liu can thoroughly investigate it. If there’s anything you need, feel free to call me at any time.” Zhang Zhongping stepped forward and slowly spoke to Liu Dekai.
“Secretary Liu, Commissioner Zhang, this matter is of great importance. I hope the authorities above can give it the attention it deserves. You can find out some information from this young man’s mouth, and I can guarantee that he will spill everything.” Liu Hun didn’t seem at all surprised by Zhang Zhongping’s identity. While dripping fresh blood into Chu Mengyao’s mouth, he turned to the two men and spoke.
However, before the two could reply, Liu Hun turned to the young man beside him and instructed, “If you can help them solve this case thoroughly, then regarding the matter of your parents back then, I, Liu Hun, can give you an explanation and also get you out of this mess.”
The youth’s murder case didn’t cause much of a stir in Shanghe Village; after about half a month, everything returned to normal, and life went on as usual.
The body that was initially found was confirmed not to be killed by the youth, but as the police got involved, they gradually uncovered a shocking crime syndicate. Therefore, the youth had to assist the authorities in thoroughly investigating the matter.
“Why have you suddenly remembered to come here?” Chu Mengyao sat in the house, examining a map of Shanghe Village, and glanced at Liu Hun leaning on the doorway.
“Did you miss me these past few days when I didn’t come around?” Liu Hun’s lips curved slightly as he looked at Chu Mengyao licking her lips, teasingly asking.
Chu Mengyao’s stature and appearance were top-notch, even dressed in a simple T-shirt and denim shorts today, she still looked remarkably enticing.
“Mengyao, why did you… why did you use your blood to feed me last time… I just felt very thirsty at that time…” Chu Mengyao put down the map in her hand, feeling somewhat guilty and touched.
“What if I told you my blood is a Great Replenishing Pill, would you believe me?” Liu Hun had anticipated that Chu Mengyao would ask about this matter. However, he hadn’t visited her recently because he had been managing the medicinal gardens and preparing the Great Yang Pills, so he hadn’t come to see Mengyao.
“I don’t believe it,” Chu Mengyao gave Liu Hun a glare.
“Let me put it this way, that guy was afflicted with ancient poison at that time. It was a very strange Gu, and I had to swallow it and use my own blood to save you; there was no other way,” Liu Hun sighed deeply.
In his previous life, he was an expert at handling Poisonous Insects, but after he awoke in this life, Liu Hun had no intention of touching such things. The reason was simple: dealing with Gu required raising them. While Gu could kill people, it could also save people; however, raising Gu was not an overnight task, and following that incident, Liu Hun was even less inclined to do so.
Yet, man proposes, God disposes. In this life, Liu Hun ultimately found himself on this path. The Poisonous Insect he swallowed to save Chu Mengyao last time was one he had never seen before, but he was certain of one thing—if he didn’t want to slowly die in the future, he would have to find the legendary Golden Gu. Of course, he naturally wouldn’t reveal these matters to Chu Mengyao.
“Then… will you be poisoned?” Concern rose in Chu Mengyao’s beautiful eyes.
“Who do I, Liu Hun, think I am? How could I be afflicted by these trivial tricks?! You think too little of me.” Liu Hun said disdainfully, then turned serious, “Mengyao, I came to see you today because I want to build a factory in the village dedicated to the production of Great Yang Pills. And these past days, I have already laid out the entire process for creating them. All we need is for everyone to help me produce them, so this matter…”
Before Liu Hun could finish, Chu Mengyao interrupted, “It’s no use coming to me about this. At most, I can only help you apply for a plot of land. If you want to build a factory, you need to go through the proper procedures first. Once the paperwork is sorted, you can set up your factory.”
“I’m well aware of that, which is why today I plan to invite you to accompany me to a ball!” Liu Hun said with a beaming smile.
“What does setting up a factory have to do with going to a ball?” Chu Mengyao looked perplexed, completely unable to follow Liu Hun’s train of thought.
“Let’s go, you’ll understand when we get there.” Liu Hun smiled but didn’t explain further; with no other choice, Chu Mengyao changed into a new outfit and followed Liu Hun into the city.
Once in the city, Liu Hun took Chu Mengyao straight to Fenglin Hotel.
Liu Hun had visited Fenglin Hotel once before, so he was quite familiar with it.
Taking the elevator up to the fifth floor, they pushed open the grand door, and a deep, low music slowly immersed itself into their ears.
Gazing at the brightly lit hall and the various young men and women walking back and forth, Chu Mengyao felt nothing; she had been to such places countless times before. As for Liu Hun, his expression was also one of calm.
“Hun, you’re here?” Lu Chuan spotted Liu Hun and Chu Mengyao from afar and quickly approached them with a smile.
“Your little sister-in-law is really pretty. If I had known being dumb for three years would bring such luck, I would’ve become foolish too, sigh…” After checking out Chu Mengyao, Lu Chuan said with a hint of envy.
Liu Hun had previously told him that he would bring a girl over, so Lu Chuan naturally assumed Chu Mengyao was Liu Hun’s girlfriend.
“I…” Chu Mengyao opened her mouth to explain something to Lu Chuan but, catching sight of Liu Hun’s somewhat smug smile, she suddenly halted what she was about to say, fuming to herself, “Just let this fellow show off today, but wait until we get back to see how I’ll deal with him!”
Being mistaken for Liu Hun’s girlfriend and not having refuted it was something that would have been absolutely impossible in the past; even Chu Mengyao herself hadn’t realized the change in her disposition.
“There’s no problem with the thing you entrusted me with, is there?” Liu Hun asked Lu Chuan with a nod.
“Don’t worry, there’s no problem, but I’m a bit puzzled. Why are you gathering all these children of officials from the city?” Lu Chuan asked, looking at Liu Hun quizzically.
“I have my reasons for doing this; you’ll know soon enough,” Liu Hun said with a slight smile, and then instructed, “You go ahead with your tasks; remember to introduce Xu Shimin to me later.”
Once he finished speaking, Liu Hun took Chu Mengyao and sat down in a corner to enjoy the premium red wine, taking interest in the beautiful women coming and going.
“Liu Hun, what exactly do you want by bringing me here today?” Chu Mengyao couldn’t contain her curiosity any longer and asked Liu Hun.
“Sigh, it’s a long story. I want to start a factory, but the old man at the Trade and Industry Bureau wouldn’t give me approval, saying that these health products are harmful. Moreover, this old geezer has quite a background, and I just can’t get around him, so I have to find a roundabout way—through his son,” said Liu Hun, unable to help but let out a heavy sigh.
“Then what do you plan to do? Get to know his son through this dance and then bribe him with money?” Chu Mengyao asked Liu Hun with some disdain.
“If money could solve the problem, that would be easy. As far as I’m aware, although Xu Shimin is just the son of the Trade and Industry Bureau director, he has a lot of influence in this circle because of his father’s status; he isn’t exactly short on cash. But, let’s just take one step at a time,” Liu Hun said, shaking his head and his eyes filled with curiosity.
Apart from his father’s status, Xu Shimin’s grandfather also played a key role so he wasn’t lacking money. Convincing this guy to help settle things wasn’t going to be easy, but Liu Hun was unconcerned; where there’s a will, there’s a way, and if one path doesn’t work, he’d find another. There’s always a solution.
“Beautiful miss, may I have the pleasure of this dance?” As they were speaking, a graceful young man slowly approached Chu Mengyao, not sparing a glance at Liu Hun, and elegantly addressed her.
“I’m sorry, I already have a dance partner,” Chu Mengyao replied politely, her brows knit in mild frustration.
“Your dance partner is him? Forgive my frankness, but such a man doesn’t deserve a beautiful and charming girl like you…” The young man cast a glance at Liu Hun, then spoke to Chu Mengyao with indifference.
Hearing these words, Chu Mengyao’s eyes flashed with disdain as she responded, “How I choose is my business, isn’t it, and none of your concern?”
“Hey, isn’t that Liu Hun, the big shot from our school back in the day? What kind of wind brought you here today? And aren’t you supposed to be a fool? Did you wander here by mistake and now you’re too reluctant to leave because of the free food and drink?” Following the young man’s comment, a garishly dressed woman with a mocking tone approached, ridiculing Liu Hun.
Liu Hun glanced at the woman, his brow slightly furrowed, and after pondering for a moment, he recalled her. The woman’s name was Qin Ya, and she also was Liu Hun’s high school classmate, who had once actively pursued him but was coldly rejected by Liu Hun.
Liu Hun was quite surprised to encounter her here.
“Xiaoya, you know him?” Xu Shimin looked at Qin Ya, somewhat surprised as he asked.
“Know him? We’re old acquaintances, the famous fool from Shanghe Village. I just don’t know why he came here today; probably saw that there was good food and drink and didn’t want to leave after coming here by mistake,” Qin Ya replied with disdain, explaining to Xu Shimin with a flattering tone.
“Hahaha, turns out he’s a fool! Xu Shimin, how about we let him stay and eat a bit more out of pity? We’d be doing a good deed,” another young man came over, laughing heartily at Xu Shimin.
