Chapter 999: Chapter 999: How about I lend you the Water-Fire Mirror to help her?

Carson Flores’s gaze fell upon the ground and the distant peaks, all mere black rocks with no sign of greenery or any trace of life.

Looking into the distance, one could not see the edge.

Carson retracted his gaze and turned to Finlay Murphy, which gave him quite a start.

Finlay was covered in blood, looking very miserable indeed.

Carson was well aware that this was the consequence of being torn by the Void Force. If they had left earlier, it might not have been so bad, but he had endured until the last moment, for "her" to no longer be sensed by the Immortal’s Primordial Spirit Incarnation before his body finally gave out and he collapsed out of the Void Path.

"Senior Murphy, are you alright?"

Finlay answered with a feeble breath, "We’ve escaped far enough now. There shouldn’t be any problems. Let’s find a place to rest."

"Alright!"

Carson helped Finlay up, found a sheltered spot, and assisted him to sit down against the wall.

Carson took out the Spiritual Spring and sprinkled it on Finlay’s wound, which soon stopped bleeding.

Carson then fed Finlay a few healing elixirs, and his breathing quickly stabilized, as he fell into a state of hibernation.

Carson’s eyes fell upon the beautiful hand resting on his shoulder, his feelings a mix of complexity.

Exploring the Valley of Death had come with such a high cost, yet he not imagine that this arm of an Immortal would end up with him.

Was he essentially a kidnapped hostage?

After pondering for a while, Carson softly spoke, "Lady Immortal, hello, can you understand me when I talk?"

The slender index finger curled up slightly in a light hook.

That should be a nod, right?

Carson continued to ask, "Why are you seeking me out?"

The slender index finger then pointed towards the Space Ring on Carson’s right hand.

Carson speculated, "Does this have to do with me releasing the Scarlet Mist, which corroded and damaged the barrier?"

The slender index finger hooked again.

Carson suddenly felt nervous, "I ran so far, yet you pursued me, and now you’ve brought me here. What do you want me to do?"

The arm flew up, hovered in front of Carson, pointed at his head, then at his body, followed by his left arm and then his legs.

Carson’s eyes widened with an odd expression.

He understood what she meant.

"You want me to use the collected Blood Mist to help you find your other sealed body parts, to break the prohibitions and let them escape, right?"

The finger hooked once more.

Carson was rendered speechless.

"I’m only at the Nascent Soul Realm, and you all are struggling amongst yourselves as Immortals. Whether it’s you or someone else, a flick of a finger could end me. Can I even be of help?"

The hand didn’t bother with Carson anymore and flew back to his shoulder, resting there again with an air of camaraderie.

Carson, however, felt the pressure was immense. This was just a hand, but it could snuff out his life in an instant.

The way she behaved, it was as though she had made up her mind to stick with him, or rather, she was not concerned about him refusing because his very life was in her hand.

If she wanted him dead, he would have to die.

To survive, he had no choice but to obey her commands.

Carson was quite exhausted, having traversed the Void Path and been wrenched by the Void Force, which could kill a man.

Since she wasn’t communicating anymore, Carson steeled his heart, ceased to care, and began to comfortably consume his elixirs for recovery.

He would converse with Finlay once he had recovered, in hopes of gaining more information.

This wait lasted for two days until Finlay finally awoke.

The scars on Finlay’s body had started to heal, but he was still very weak.

"Senior Murphy, can you tell me about what happened between you and her?"

Finlay glanced at the arm on Carson’s shoulder and shook his head, "I can’t remember much, I vaguely recall she saved my life and granted me immortality. But what happened after that, I can’t remember..."

Carson was quite disappointed; he had hoped to get some new clues from Finlay.

Even if he had to risk his life, he ought to at least know what was going on.

"She wants me to help her find her other sealed body parts and figure out a way to lift the seals. But with my strength, I’m not only weak against the Immortal’s Primordial Spirit Incarnation but also against any formidable Cultivator or Demonic Beasts..."

Finlay placed a hand on his temple, seeming to think hard, then spoke after a while, "I vaguely recall she’s a very good person. If you help her wholeheartedly, she definitely won’t mistreat you."

A very good person?

Carson thought for a moment and said, "Your strength is substantial, you should at least be a Demi Immortal, and since she helped you in the past, why don’t you help her now? I can lend you the Water-Fire Mirror storing the Blood Mist. You can return it to me once you’re done. Wouldn’t that be the perfect solution?"

Finlay shook his head, "No, I can’t. I have an illness and can’t remain lucid for long."

Carson was momentarily at a loss for words. Was that even a reason?

Before Carson could figure out how to respond, Finlay changed the subject, "You learned the Ground Shrinking Technique, right?"

Carson nodded and took out the metal plate, "I learned it from this, but I feel like it’s far inferior compared to yours. Can you tell me why?"
