Chapter 983: Chapter 983: Do You Think You Have the Situation Firmly in Hand?

How did he escape with so many undead around him?

He even managed to pass through the passage and arrived at this underground space, how did he escape from those Undead Guards?

Could it be that he was so lucky that the passage he chose had no Undead Guards at all?

Liam Malone remembered Carson Flores looking back just before he fell into the horde of the undead, as if their gazes had met. Did he recognize him?

Liam Malone wasn’t really afraid, after all. Carson Flores was alone, all Four Sects were present, and the Cave Master was there, too. Even if Carson Flores had any schemes, what could he possibly do?

Just a Nascent Soul, could he really do anything to him?

No matter what he says, one simply has to deny it.

No evidence, you can’t beat me, you’re definitely at a loss.

The four Immortal Slaves glanced over at Carson Flores, then refocused their attention ahead.

Just an isolated boy, not worth noting.

It’s the crowd ahead that’s concerning, with so many powerful people, today is likely to be tough.

Mount Kahdas Cave Master, Tanner Bautista, said solemnly, "Ladies and gentlemen, we entered this place only to uncover the secrets of the Valley of Death and to find information about the Sky-reaching Formation. We have no intention of fighting to the death with you all."

"All of you were heroes from ten thousand years ago, and by that reckoning, are our predecessors. We’re all of the Human Race, is there nothing we can discuss?"

Franklin Wyatt gripped his Black War Blade tightly and spoke gravely, "We are tasked to guard this place. If you break the Formation and take the guarded items, we would have failed our duty and will be killed. So no matter what you say, we won’t step aside."

Princess Hail sneered, "What, you think just because you’ve made it here, you hold all the cards?"

The Cave Master of the Western Mysterious Mountain shouted, "The four of you are already severely wounded and can’t fight anymore. Do you really think these few Undead Guards can stop us?"

Princess Hail sneered, "Just a few? Do you honestly think they’re the only ones in this entire underground? We let you attack and come in on purpose, just to catch all of you in one fell swoop!"

Everyone’s expressions subtly changed.

The Supreme Elder of Luofu mountain asked, "You said you were ordered to guard this place, by whom were you given this order?"

The white-haired old man laughed strangely, "Of course, it’s by the order of an Immortal. Do you think there’s anyone else in this world who can command us?"

Immortal!

The Supreme Elder of Heavenly Mountain Cave said gravely, "You have guarded this place for ten thousand years, but the pathways between the Barbarian Wilderness Realm and the Immortal Realm have been severed. What are you plotting?"

"Plotting? Of course, we long for Ascension to become Immortals!"

Franklin Wyatt said coldly, "You all are fighting so desperately to get in here without regard for your lives, aren’t you also doing it for the sake of Ascension to Immortality? We share the same goal; our methods are just different."

Tanner Bautista asked, "You have lived for ten thousand years, and possess such formidable strength, aren’t you already Immortals?"

A fleeting look of embarrassment crossed Franklin Wyatt’s face.

Are they Immortals?

Yes!

Are they really Immortals?

No!

They are but Immortal Slaves!

They are Demi Immortals with long lifespans, yet they fall short of being true Immortals. They possess the lifespan of Immortals, but not their overwhelming power.

If they were really Immortals, would they need to fight so desperately?

The white-haired old man obviously had a much thicker skin, and said coldly, "If it weren’t for the pursuit of becoming an Immortal, why else would we have lived for ten thousand years?"

Tanner Bautista asked, "The Immortal who ordered you, he is not in the Barbarian Wilderness, is he? Is your purpose of becoming Immortals just to stay here as guards forever?"

The white-haired old man answered, "This is the price of a trade. When the time comes, we will naturally Ascend to the Immortal Realm. If we were to stay here indefinitely, then what kind of Immortals would we be?"

With that said, everyone had a general understanding of the current situation.

These four people had indeed encountered Immortals, might have become Immortals themselves, but the one commanding them now was much more powerful than them. So even though they might have become Immortals, they still had to accept the fate of being eternal guards here.

This is the price.

The Supreme Elder of the Crimson City Cave asked, "Whose arm is that?"

Princess Hail coldly replied, "That is not a matter you need to concern yourself with. What you need to worry about now is your own life..."

The Black Jiao roared from the side, "Why waste words with them, summon the Undead Guards, kill them! Those who dare to intrude upon the forbidden area must die!"

The white-haired old man turned around and placed his palm on the Altar. Suddenly, intense fluctuations of blood energy rose from the Altar.

As the Blood Light fluctuated, from the numerous passageways came the thunderous sound of something huge running.

All faces drastically changed. They had initially thought the Undead Guards they had encountered earlier were almost wiped out, leaving only the few guarding the Altar. However, as it turned out, they were greatly mistaken!

Their arduous advance had merely eliminated the Undead Guards in this single passage!

There were countless passages here, and each passage had its Undead Guards. The total number of all Undead Guards combined would amount to a terrifying figure!
