Chapter 858: Chapter 858: Is There Really a Fairy in This World?
No one left alive!
Carson Flores’s face changed.
So many powerful figures entered the Five Elements Immortal Palace, and none could leave. With Samantha Tate’s and his own limited strength, weren’t they going to die here as well?
Carson Flores asked, "Really, no one left?"
"Yes! I’ve read the records about the Five Elements Immortal Palace, and it indeed says so."
Samantha Tate’s face looked quite upset. The joy of having just escaped was completely gone, replaced by endless despair.
This despair was no less than being chased by the Crimson Dragon King, because many of the powers who entered the Five Elements Immortal Palace were no weaker than the Crimson Dragon King.
If they couldn’t escape, how could the two of them possibly manage it?
Carson Flores, not willing to give up, asked, "Since the Five Elements Immortal Palace is said to hold the secrets to becoming an Immortal, is it possible that they found the secret and then ascended to the world of the Immortals?"
Samantha Tate gave a wry smile: "Many people think this way, so even though they know there’s no coming back from the Five Elements Immortal Palace, every time it appears, people still go in droves. However, many who enter do not have the strength to cross the Tribulation; it is highly unlikely they could ascend. And yet, once they go in, they also do not reappear..."
Carson Flores fell silent. If their strength was not enough for Ascension and they lacked the power to ascend, these people had also not reappeared. What other explanation could there be except that they were trapped and died in the Five Elements Immortal Palace?
Was it that the scenery here was too beautiful, and the Spiritual Energy too rich, making all who came reluctant to return to the Barbarian Wilderness Realm?
Samantha Tate suddenly brightened up, "Could we maybe follow the underground waterway out?"
Carson Flores smiled bitterly, "If it were that easy to escape, then the powerful ones wouldn’t have all failed to do so."
The light in Samantha Tate’s eyes that had just brightened dimmed again, "Right, if it were that simple, it wouldn’t be called the tomb of the strong with no returns."
Curious, Carson Flores asked, "Knowing that there is no return, why do they still proceed one after another?"
Samantha Tate’s wry smile deepened: "No matter how strong a Cultivator is, they ultimately cannot withstand time. If your lifespan has already come to an end and you’re about to die, but now you have a chance at immortality, which means gambling with your life, would you not take that bet?"
Carson Flores was taken aback, then let out a bitter laugh.
How had he forgotten this point?
Even if one reached the Hollow Void Realm and had a long life, length still had its limits; they couldn’t withstand time. On the brink of death, given a chance to gamble with life, who would refuse?
To bet could mean death, but not to bet would certainly mean death. Anyone with a sane mind would surely choose to take the risk.
What if you really did ascend to immortality?
Carson Flores cheered up and said comfortingly, "Let’s go and take a look. We stumbled into this place while fleeing for our lives, indicating that we have good fortune. Maybe we are that one in ten thousand, the Son of Destiny?"
Looking at Carson Flores’s warm and comforting smile, Samantha Tate felt her despair lighten considerably.
No matter what, she was not alone. The person she loved most was right beside her. Even if death was to come, at least they would die together. That outcome was at least not the worst, was it?
"Okay, let’s go and see."
Samantha Tate said with a smile, "With so many incredible people coming here, if they died here, maybe they have left us countless treasures."
Carson Flores laughed, "That’s entirely possible. Maybe just picking up anything could be a Spiritual Treasure, and then we’d really strike it rich."
The two of them teased each other to lighten the mood, and then they walked past the Stele and toward the huge palace.
Entering the great doors of the palace, they found a spacious corridor which led to a vast front hall.
The hall was empty, but the walls of the hall had been carved with many words, as if written with a weapon made of iron and a brush of silver.
Carson Flores and Samantha Tate casually walked to the nearest inscription to take a closer look.
"What do I resent, having dominated an era, only to be buried here? Does immortality truly exist in this world?"
Samantha Tate exclaimed in surprise, "Resentful True Person, He Hengsheng, this person was a top powerhouse who dominated the Barbarian Wilderness for a thousand years, seven thousand years ago. He suddenly disappeared without a trace—the original rumor was that he entered the Five Elements Immortal Palace!"
Carson Flores moved to another spot, squinting to make out the words.
This inscription was very sloppy, with few words, but each stroke seemed to carry an overwhelming fury.
"I will not accept this! I am not reconciled! — Mountain Moving Ape King"
Samantha Tate marveled, "That must be the Ape Demon King from more than three thousand years ago, notorious for having the strength to move mountains. Formidable beyond measure, he could lift mountains and walk with them just by reverting to his original form..."
They continued to read on, becoming more and more shocked, until their astonishment numbed them.
In this hall, there were many inscriptions from the Human Race and quite a few from the Demon Race; every single one was from a highly famed figure in the Barbarian Wilderness, one who had once had great influence and exerted immense power!
Amidst the shock, Carson Flores scanned the hall: "They’ve carved their words here, but there’s not a single corpse to be seen. Where are they?"
