Chapter 804: Chapter 804: How Do You Know If You Don’t Try?
"Ah!"
A man swiftly dashed up the staircase, but after only advancing five steps, his body seemed to be swept up by a fierce wind. He screamed in agony, was thrown backwards, and landed dozens of meters away, crashing to the ground in disarray, his clothes in shambles and his face the picture of distress.
He wasn’t the only one; many who attempted to ascend the stairs met the same fate.
Suddenly, the area in front of the White Jade Platform was a chaotic flurry of figures and continuous screams.
Bryant James sat in the main seat atop the White Jade Platform and said indifferently, "This White Jade Platform is a small trinket from Kahdas used to test disciples’ strength and talent. With each step you take, the pressure you bear will increase. If your strength is below Nascent Soul and you are not particularly gifted, then refrain from trying."
With that explanation from Bryant James, everyone suddenly understood.
To pass this White Jade Platform, one needed at least the strength of a Nascent Soul.
Lainey Dragon tilted her head and asked, "Carson Flores?"
I’m only in the Golden Core Realm, what are you asking me for?
Are you asking me to go up and embarrass myself?
Carson Flores chuckled and said, "Miss Dragon, why don’t you go first? There are limited seats, and it would be a shame if someone else took them all."
Lainey Dragon gazed into Carson’s eyes and smiled faintly, "Alright, then I’ll go first... I’ll wait for you."
Lainey Dragon gracefully ascended the White Jade Platform and successfully reached the top.
"Aren’t you going to give it a try?"
Carson Flores suddenly turned around and saw Adelaide Bautista standing behind him. His eyes instantly brightened with joy, and he greeted her respectfully, "Aunt Adelaide, doesn’t one need to be in the Nascent Soul to go up there? I’m only in the late stage of Golden Core. If I don’t make it, I’d be embarrassing Nutwood Mountain, and my master would scold me."
Killian Jaramillo blinked in astonishment, his expression bewildered.
Carson Flores actually called Adelaide Bautista ’Aunt Adelaide’?
What’s going on here?
Adelaide Bautista smiled slightly, "How many layers has your Sword Bone achieved?"
Carson Flores answered, "One hundred twenty-six layers, both upper and lower limb bones, all completely refined."
Adelaide Bautista smiled slightly, "Go and give it a try. Since you’re here, why just stand on the sidelines?"
"Alright!"
Adelaide Bautista wouldn’t harm him; since she asked about his Sword Bone and encouraged him to climb, it indicated he should be able to ascend the White Jade Platform.
Carson Flores turned to Killian Jaramillo, "Together?"
Killian Jaramillo nodded lightly, his eyes suddenly tinged with nervousness.
The two of them walked side by side towards the White Jade Platform. Nearby, Francisco Smith’s figure appeared beside Carson and he said coldly, "Carson Flores, you represent Nutwood Mountain now. It’s not just your reputation at stake if you embarrass yourself. You are only in the Golden Core Realm, can you handle it?"
Carson Flores smiled, "How will I know if I don’t try?"
Francisco Smith snorted coldly and said no more.
His reminder wasn’t out of goodwill but rather a setup. If Carson Flores failed and lost face upon the platform, he could use it to mock and belittle Carson.
Earlier, when Carson came with Lainey Dragon and Killian Jaramillo, he caught many people’s attention. Everyone noted that he rode his sword, implying Carson wasn’t in the Nascent Soul. Now, as he approached the White Jade Platform, someone laughed out loud.
"Who is that guy? He’s certainly overconfident. Didn’t Bryant James say those below Nascent Soul can’t pass? He’s barely in the Golden Core Realm, what’s he fussing about?"
"Didn’t you see Lainey Dragon urging him to come? With the beautiful lady in white accompanying him, a man should never compromise his integrity. He has to try, maybe he can actually make it."
"This is going to be interesting."
The moment Carson Flores began his ascent, Bryant James’s gaze swept over him. His expression was calm as his eyes rested on Carson, but a hint of cold mockery lurked in their depths.
Golden Core Realm?
He’s bold, unfortunately, those in the Golden Core Realm can’t climb the White Jade Platform.
Bryant James awaited the opportunity to ridicule Carson Flores.
How should he phrase his taunt to maximize the mockery?
"Some people should know their limits."
"Those below Nascent Soul shouldn’t bother trying. Do you think you are the chosen one?"
Under Bryant James’s scrutinizing gaze, Carson Flores stepped onto the White Jade Platform.
Carson’s movements weren’t fast. His body surged with Sword Qi, and his one hundred twenty-six Sword Bones seemed to come alive, ready to handle any sudden scenarios.
One step, two steps, three steps.
I don’t feel anything.
Carson Flores blinked and continued to move forward.
Four steps, five steps, six steps.
Carson Flores paused slightly to sense his surroundings, beginning to feel something at last.
Is it akin to carrying a backpack weighing a few dozen pounds?
I’ve already covered one third of the distance; is this all there is to the challenge?
Could all the pressure be concentrated towards the end?
Carson muttered to himself as he continued forward, glancing sideways at Killian Jaramillo, but was suddenly startled.
Killian Jaramillo’s face was flushed red, his teeth clenched as if bearing an immense weight. His waist trembled slightly as though he might collapse to the ground at any second.
Is it that hard?
Carson was puzzled. Though he did feel something, it was quite manageable so far.
