Chapter 478: Chapter 478: King in the Darkness_1
"Let’s go!"
Garrett Howell stood up with Jeffrey Howell’s support, his face filled with reluctance, but he spat out the word helplessly.
After his victory, Saint Jaramillo retreated into the store, and the door closed once again.
After walking a good distance away, the group saw light illuminate once more from the pharmacy, clearly indicating that Saint Jaramillo’s followers had begun to rummage for valuable items inside.
The group saw this with their eyes, felt hate in their hearts, yet they were helpless to do anything.
If their skills were inferior, what could they do?
Garrett Howell stopped in his tracks, turned back, and looked at the pharmacy now lit up, his eyes filled with anger and helplessness.
After all, whose fault was it that he lost?
"I’ve thought about it, let’s split up to increase the area we search in the shortest time. If we encounter occupied areas where the enemy is in greater numbers, we needn’t fight head-on, just move on to the next area. Try to search as many places as possible. Do you all understand?"
Garrett Howell’s strategy was clear, and he spoke methodically: "I’ve sustained internal injuries and my cultivation has been harmed. In a direct fight, we won’t have the advantage. It’s better to divide and conquer, searching in as many places as we can without engaging in conflict. Do you understand?"
"Understood!"
Jeffrey Howell and the others all agreed. They understood that if they couldn’t win a fight, they should avoid one and instead change their approach.
Carson Flores naturally had no objections, his thoughts still lingering on the pharmacy they had just left.
He needed to go back and take a look.
"That’s the plan, then. If we encounter any unavoidable danger, signal with a long and a short howl. Everyone, remember to regroup here after six hours." Garrett Howell looked around to ensure everyone agreed, then clapped his hands, "Alright, spread out."
Carson Flores watched as the four members of the Howell Family disappeared into the darkness. He turned and followed the path they had come by, heading straight back to the pharmacy.
As Carson approached quietly, concealing his presence like a cat retracting its claws, he moved soundlessly through the darkness toward the faintly illuminated pharmacy.
Quickly, he arrived at the entrance of the pharmacy. Using the erratic light inside as cover, he leapt nimbly, reaching the second floor without a sound.
He slipped onto the balcony and into the house, then quietly lay on the second-floor wooden planks, peering through the gaps to the floor below.
On the ground floor of the pharmacy, five men were busily at work. They flipped open each medicine cabinet to inspect the contents, carelessly discarding some empty ones or herbs, while carefully wrapping and placing others, including elixirs, into their backpacks.
Carson didn’t move.
With five Great Grandmasters below, Carson was confident in his ability, but only in a one-on-one situation; he didn’t believe he could overcome all five of them together.
"We’ve searched nearly everything below. Shawn Boyd, Richard Compton, the two of you go upstairs and search quickly. The pharmacy is an important target for everyone; we need to pull out fast!"
"Alright!"
Following Saint Jaramillo’s order, the two silver-haired elders acknowledged and headed towards the staircase.
Carson held his breath, suppressed his heartbeat, and poised himself like a fossil in a dark corner of the second floor, silently waiting.
He had noticed that the backpacks Shawn Boyd and Richard Compton were carrying had bulged, indicating they had found quite a few valuable items, or else they wouldn’t have put them in their backpacks.
Shawn Boyd, flashlight in hand, was the first to ascend the staircase and walked past Carson.
Carson suddenly struck.
Like a ghost emerging from the darkness, he appeared behind Shawn Boyd and struck him with his palm while grabbing the backpack from his back.
"Bang!"
Shawn Boyd flew out like a cannonball, crashing through the railing and falling from the second floor to the ground floor with a loud crash.
Carson didn’t execute a killing blow, after all, there was no deep grudge; he was only after Shawn Boyd’s backpack.
The backpack fell into Carson’s hands, and in that moment, Richard Compton, who was following Shawn, reacted. Even though Carson was shrouded in darkness, Richard, driven by instinct to aid his fellow sect member, launched a powerful punch towards Carson’s position.
"Boom!"
The Gang Qi struck like a hammer, instantly breaking through the walls of the second-floor house with a loud noise, but it did not hit its intended target.
As Richard’s fist thundered out with astonishing power, he didn’t hit anything, which made his heart skip a beat.
This is bad!
As Richard internally exclaimed in alarm, Carson moved like a shadow in the dark, rapidly closing in.
Richard reacted swiftly, throwing a backhand palm strike.
His palm found only air.
The next moment, Richard felt his backpack lighten as it was yanked from his grasp, the straps snapping, and taken from his back.
Richard panicked!
The backpack contained all the good things he had found in the pharmacy and other places.
A breeze whisked by Richard’s side, as if a dark shadow had swept past him, and then someone leaped down from the second floor to the street below.
Richard dashed to the balcony railing, shining his flashlight around, but found nothing.
The attacker vanished like a ghost!
"Who’s there?"
Saint Jaramillo’s shout came from downstairs. He leapt up, effortlessly surpassing the first floor’s height and landing on the second-floor balcony.
"Who is it? Show yourself, don’t skulk in the shadows!"
