Chapter 417: Chapter 417: Pick Up the Dignity You Lost Yourself?_1
Carson Flores didn’t refuse.
It wasn’t that he wanted to hang out with Nathaniel Frost and Lillian Frost; sitting with a group of unfamiliar elders just felt awkward.
As they left the house, Carson Flores smiled and said, "You guys go ahead and have fun. I’ll just take a walk by myself, and I’ll get back later on my own."
Being twenty-five this year, Nathaniel Frost was two years younger than Carson Flores. He chuckled and said, "Come with us. We’re all young. It’ll be fun."
Nathaniel Frost gave his sister a wink, and twenty-one-year-old Lillian Frost persuaded with a laugh, "We younger ones couldn’t join in the conversation with the elders talking earlier. Cousin, come with us. Let’s get to know each other better. I’ve heard my parents talk about my second uncle before; they say he’s really something!"
With the conversation turning to this point, Carson Flores naturally found it hard to refuse again and nodded, "Okay then, if it won’t inconvenience you."
"Hey, it’s just messing around to kill time. There’s nothing to inconvenience."
Nathaniel Frost drove, with Lillian Frost and Carson Flores chatting casually in the back seat.
Carson Flores noticed that perhaps due to the way they were raised, the two kids from his uncle’s family, despite being young, conducted themselves with a sense of largesse. They didn’t show any arrogance or contempt towards him, the suddenly appearing "poor relative." Instead, they actively helped Carson Flores integrate into the group.
This was somewhat unexpected for Carson Flores, but he found this slightly unfamiliar feeling to be quite comfortable.
The gathering was at a very upscale bar. The trio entered, and Nathaniel Frost’s friends had already arrived, lounging in a booth and drinking.
"Jakob, move over a bit."
Nathaniel Frost patted the man beside him, asking him to scoot over, then turned back with a smile, "Cousin, take a seat."
The patted man turned around, "Who might this be?"
Nathaniel Frost said with a smile, "My cousin, Carson Flores... from my second aunt’s side."
Jakob Compton paused, "Isn’t your second aunt..."
Nathaniel Frost slapped Jakob Compton’s shoulder and laughingly said, "Family matters; why bother about so much? Let’s drink... Cousin, let me introduce you..."
After a round of introductions, everyone got acquainted.
Jakob Compton suddenly mentioned, "Nathaniel, I just ran into Ariya Steele..."
Nathaniel Frost’s expression darkened at once, "She’s here too?"
Jakob Compton nodded towards a booth not far away, "She and that bastard Khalil Baker are both there."
Nathaniel Frost’s expression turned ugly, cursing, "Damn, it’s a small world when it comes to running into enemies!"
With an eager look, Jakob Compton said, "So, what do we do, get even?"
Nathaniel Frost asked, "Can we take them?"
Jakob Compton chuckled, "Should be doable. I’ll pretend to go to the bathroom later and scout it out."
Nathaniel Frost nodded gravely, "Make sure you get the details. Since we’ve bumped into him, we can’t let it slide without sorting him out."
Sitting nearby, Carson Flores thought to himself that the evening was unlikely to remain peaceful.
Lillian Frost, seated next to Carson Flores, explained quietly, "Ariya Steele used to be the woman my brother liked. They had practically settled into a relationship, but then Khalil Baker forcefully stepped in and snatched Ariya away. They’ll probably fight later. We don’t need to get involved; we can just enjoy the show."
Carson Flores said with a laugh, "Seeing how you’re not the least bit surprised, do they fight often?"
Lillian Frost glanced at Carson Flores and noticed he seemed quite calm too, not panicking about a potential fight, "Fight? Of course, they fight. How can they not, with countless powerful families in West Capital City? Who would back down without a fight? It’s just how it is. Today you hit me, tomorrow I find a chance to hit back. You get used to it."
Carson Flores asked, "Aren’t you afraid that fighting will lead to serious trouble?"
Lillian Frost replied, "Everyone knows how to measure their punches. They’re fighting over pride, not trying to kill each other. Generally, as long as it doesn’t result in death or disability, the elders in the family usually won’t intervene in these young people’s disputes."
Carson Flores suddenly understood, "So you earn back the face you lost on your own?"
Lillian Frost nodded, "Right, that’s pretty much it. The powerful families have fought their way through generations, so fostering the bravery of their scions is a must. Those who dare not fight or can’t stand the sight of blood will only be deemed worthless."
Carson Flores asked curiously, "Does your brother fight often?"
Lillian Frost chuckled, "Yep, he fights. How could he not? He often comes home bruised and battered. Unless things get really out of hand, big brother will step in to help; otherwise, he stays out of it."
Carson Flores inquired further, "Your big brother is pretty formidable?"
Lillian Frost said with pride in her eyes, "Yeah, he’s one of the Frost Family’s most exceptional talents in cultivation and a leading figure among the youth. In our entire family, currently only Messiah Frost from our great-uncle’s lineage can compare."
As they were talking, Jakob Compton suddenly exclaimed in a hushed voice, "Damn, that bastard Khalil Baker is coming over!"
Carson Flores looked up and saw a youthful man in his mid to late twenties with an arrogant expression, holding a beautiful woman by his side, approaching their booth, and then stopping with an exaggerated look on his face.
"Well, well, isn’t this young master Frost? Ariya, he was a devout suitor of yours, right? Ha-ha, seeing an old friend, aren’t you going to say hello?"
