Chapter 395: Chapter 395: Eternal Youth, Rejuvenation?_1
When Carson Flores saw Cason Rich again, it was already evening.
After getting his hair cut, taking a bath, and changing into clean clothes, Cason Rich looked somewhat thinner and slightly languid, but he was now a stark contrast to the person who had been chained in the basement.
Carson Flores glanced at Brock Rich standing beside Cason Rich, his gaze turning inevitably odd.
Cason Rich was Brock Rich’s father, and by all accounts, he should be at least twenty years older than Brock, but standing together, Brock, the son, seemed more like Cason’s father.
Carson Flores couldn’t help but ask, "Mr. Rich, how old are you this year?"
Cason Rich answered with a smile, "Eighty-six."
Carson Flores was shocked.
Cason Rich, at eighty-six, appeared to be only in his forties, the very image of a middle-aged man, with tight skin and a healthy complexion, his hair still dark without a strand of white. On the other hand, Brock Rich, in his sixties, was already thinning on top with streaks of grey, looking much older by comparison.
Rejuvenation indeed!
Carson exclaimed, "Old Mr. Rich, you sure have maintained yourself well!"
Cason Rich chuckled, "I might have a special constitution, but I also have you to thank, Mr. Flores. Without your miraculous medical skills, I fear I would have continued to live in a daze for the rest of my life. In the blink of an eye, I actually went mad for over twenty years..."
Carrying a tone of inquiry, Carson asked, "Old Mr. Rich, could you tell me how you contracted this illness? I have never seen anything like it before. It was a shot in the dark to treat it, and it just so happened to work."
With a slight smile, Cason Rich replied, "It’s been so long, and my memory is a bit hazy. I remember that I went to Heavenly Mountain on business, passed through a forest full of fragrant trees, and then my memory stops there. When I woke up, it was today."
Carson let out an "Oh" and speculated, "Maybe that forest contained some sort of hallucinogenic substance. You inhaled it as you passed through and got caught up in an illusion you couldn’t escape from."
"Maybe so."
Cason Rich smiled in return and questioned, "Mr. Flores, your method of treatment is quite unique, completely different from the doctors before. What is the principle behind it?"
Carson laughed, "I don’t understand the principle myself; it seems rather arcane. But I guess that there is a limit to a person’s mental threshold. By using fear to amplify the feeling of fear until it exceeds that threshold, it’s like blowing up a balloon until it bursts, breaking through the illusion, allowing the person to come to their senses."
Cason Rich frowned, "But if it exceeds the threshold, isn’t there also a possibility of going completely mad and never getting better?"
Speaking frankly, Carson said, "The human brain has its self-protect mechanisms. When faced with something it can’t accept, it will protect itself. For example, you passing out was a form of self-protection. But I can’t guarantee it’s safe, seeing as you had been like that for over twenty years; I could only try."
Smiling, Cason Rich said, "Fortunately, I’m lucky. Anyway, thank you, Mr. Flores, you saved me."
Carson laughed, "Don’t mention it."
Turning his head, Cason Rich said, "I’m a bit tired, I’m going to get some more sleep. Brock, make sure to take good care of Mr. Flores; he is my benefactor."
With a smile, Brock responded, "Of course."
Watching Cason Rich’s retreating figure, Carson pondered their recent conversation.
A fragrant forest?
Considering what Cason Rich had mentioned about the entrance in the basement earlier, Carson felt that Cason Rich must have lied to him, holding something back.
During the day, when Carson Flores found himself with nothing to do, he oddly recalled what Johnny Gross had told him about The Unknown Land.
Johnny Gross had mentioned that The Unknown Land was hidden in this world, but without a special key, one would never find its entrance.
Cason Rich, looking like a middle-aged man in his forties despite being eighty-six, sparked a connection in Carson Flores’ mind.
The Unknown Land... Eternal youth... Prolonging life...
It seemed this world indeed housed many secret places of legend.
Come to think of it, the Heaven’s Prophecy jade I possess could also be a key to one of these Unknown Lands?
Yet, neither Peter Miller nor Johnny Gross knew the specific use of the Heaven’s Prophecy jade.
This left Carson slightly aggrieved; they were fighting to the death over something, yet didn’t know what it was or how to use it?
After another night at the Rich Family’s residence, Carson declined Brock Rich’s attempt to make him stay longer and set off on his journey home.
Although Carson Flores was curious about Cason Rich’s real ordeal, their conversation was watertight, so he knew the truth would remain elusive, and he decided not to dwell on it.
Carson mentioned buying medicines to Brock, who readily agreed to help with anything needed – just a phone call away.
Upon promising, Brock didn’t hesitate to stuff another large bag of medicinal pills for cultivation practice into Carson’s hands, displaying the generous spirit of a family renowned in pharmaceuticals.
The Rich Family does not lack for medicine!
On his flight back to Seashore, as he walked out of the airport, Carson spotted Camille Rhodes leaning against the railing with sunglasses, smiling at him.
"Why did you come? Didn’t I tell you there’s no need to make a special trip?"
With a beaming smile, Camille replied, "Can’t help it; I was ordered to pick you up..."
