Chapter 284: Chapter 284: Words within Words, Hidden Sharpness_1

"Your love line is such a mess."

In the break room, Samantha Tate grabbed Carson Flores’ hand, looking carefully at his palm lines, and pursed her lips, "You sure have a lot of romantic interests."

Carson Flores laughed, "Since when did you learn to read palms? All that is just to fool people, you believe in that stuff?"

Samantha Tate giggled, "I’m just spouting book knowledge, that’s what’s written in the books. If you ask me why, I can’t explain it either."

Carson Flores joked, "Are you going to set up a stall under an overpass in the future, wear sunglasses and tell fortunes?"

Samantha Tate laughed, "With my looks, I might just do well in business."

While they were joking around, the young couple who were looking at cars walked in from outside, heading straight for Carson Flores and Samantha.

Carson withdrew his hand from Samantha, glanced at the couple and smiled, "Can I help with something?"

Before the salesperson could speak, the young man gestured for him not to and extended his hand with a smile, "Friend, let’s get acquainted. Lennox Acevedo."

Lennox Acevedo?

The eldest son of the Acevedo Family among the Four Young Masters of Seashore City, the heir to the Acevedo Family which ranks first among the Eight Great Families?

Showing no change in his expression, Carson Flores stood up, shook hands with a smile, "One of the Four Young Masters of Seashore City?"

Lennox Acevedo looked at Carson’s calm smile, his gaze slightly stern.

The fact that this young man recognized his name meant he was aware of who he was. Furthermore, he didn’t show any signs of nervousness or unease, nor did he lower his stance, indicating that he wasn’t intimidated by his social status.

Lennox Acevedo and Carson shook hands, Lennox laughed, "That’s just a joke nickname my friends came up with. What should I call you, friend?"

"Carson Flores."

Lennox seemed slightly surprised, "The Carson Flores who won against the racing driver Wayne Singleton at the Kylan Martinez racetrack?"

Carson appeared equally surprised, "Mr. Acevedo, you’re very well-informed, even about such trivial matters as that?"

Lennox smiled, "I heard you had a conflict with the Martinez Family Siblings..."

Carson smiled, "A small misunderstanding that has been cleared up. We are friends now."

Lennox turned his head and laughed, "Harper, I’m sorry, looks like you’ll have to choose another car or wait a while. But don’t worry, I’ve urged them to hurry. It won’t take many days."

Once he heard that, Carson understood and laughed, "This young lady has her eye on that F8 as well?"

Lennox laughed, "Yes, it’s mainly because they have it in stock. I was planning to try and talk to the buyer, but since we all know each other in the circle, it wouldn’t be appropriate... Is this Mr. Flores’ girlfriend?"

Carson nodded with a laugh, "Right, we just teamed up to bet against Miss Miller in a bowling game at the alley and won a bit of money. I wanted to share the money with her, but she refused, so I’m buying her a car as a gift instead."

Lennox’s brows rose slightly, "Miss Miller?"

Carson nodded, "Harper Miller, do you know her, Mr. Acevedo?"

Realization dawned on Lennox as he nodded and laughed, "Barrett Miller’s daughter. I’ve met her. Looks like you won quite a bit from just one game, enough to buy an F8."

Carson smiled faintly, "Not much, just twenty million."

Lennox’s eyes lit up, a contemplative look crossing his face, then he laughed heartily, "That’s certainly substantial. It calls for a celebration. Well, since the F8 has an owner, I’ll take my sister to look at other cars. We’ll talk more when we meet again."

"Sure!"

Lennox left with the curious young lady, her gaze full of wonder. Watching his retreating figure, Carson’s eyes revealed a thoughtful expression.

In a quiet voice, Samantha said, "Let him have the car, make a friend, it’s okay by me. The worst is just waiting a little longer."

Carson shook his head, "It’s not necessary. Besides, he might not even want to be friends with me."

Samantha asked with a puzzled look, "Why do you say that? I felt like there was more to your conversation just now, am I being too sensitive?"

Carson shook his head, "No, you’re not wrong, there was indeed more to it."

Curiously, Samantha asked, "Could you explain?"

Carson explained, "He started by announcing his identity, which was to gauge my reaction. Anyone who can afford an F8 is at least well-off and should know something about the Acevedo Family of Seashore. If I had shown deference, that would’ve meant I was intimidated by the Acevedo Family. Then it would’ve been easy for him to suggest regarding the car, and naturally, I would’ve given it up."

Samantha nodded in understanding, "And the rest?"

Carson continued with a smile, "He had heard of me. By letting him know that Kylan Martinez and I are now friends, someone who could clash with Martinez yet manage to remain friends on equal terms must also have the status to deal with Lennox at the same level. So, when he said that to his sister, he basically gave up on persuading me, showing his magnanimity."

"By mentioning the money I’d won from Harper, I was probing his attitude toward the Miller Family. Knowing who Harper Miller was, he’d understand that a twenty-million bet far exceeded her station. And since the Millers still paid up, it meant that I had a non-conciliatory stand against the Miller Family."

"The Martinez and Miller Families are competitors in real estate and biotech. If I’m friends with Kylan and betting against the Millers, winning their money implies that I’m opposing them. That’s why he chose to end the conversation and leave. Although he mentioned chatting another time, he didn’t even leave contact information, which means he doesn’t want to be friends with me."

Carson’s eyes narrowed slightly, "This suggests that the Acevedo Family either doesn’t want to get involved in my dispute with the Miller Family, keeping neutral, or they have a good relationship with the Millers..."
