Chapter 253: Chapter 253: Shall I Compensate You or Keep You Company?_1
Kylie Martinez clicked her heels forward, strutting like a beautiful, proud peacock until she stood before Camille Rhodes, her face an icy blend of arrogance, her eyes full of challenge.
The assertiveness Carson Flores had just displayed allowed Camille Rhodes to easily win a round against Kylie Martinez. This irked Kylie, who had always been a fierce rival of Camille’s.
She wanted to gamble with Camille once more and turn the tables!
Camille glanced at Kylie, her expression relaxed, "Are you betting on your brother?"
Kylie nodded, "Yes, I’ve said before, on this racetrack, my brother won’t lose, even if he’s up against the Wilderness Racing God!"
Camille shook her head with a smile, "I’m not betting."
Kylie was taken aback, "You also think my brother is more formidable than Iker Combs?"
Camille chuckled softly, her gaze somewhat meaningful, "I don’t think your brother is more formidable than Iker Combs. I don’t know if he’ll win, but he definitely won’t lose."
Kylie widened her eyes, "What do you mean?"
Camille replied with a smile, "Exactly what it sounds like."
Kylie huffed, "In that case, there’s no bet to be made."
After Kylie left, Carson laughed, "Are you so certain?"
Camille nodded, "If you had money and wanted to make some extra cash, you could bet on Kylan winning. If you lose, I’ll compensate you."
Carson teased her, "Accompany, or compensate?"
Camille rolled her eyes at Carson, "You scoundrel, now you realize you’re teasing me? Are you looking for my company or compensation?"
Carson said with a smile, "You, a young lady surrounded by so many handsome men, insist on mingling with a security guard like me. Aren’t you afraid of lowering your standards?"
Camille snorted, "I like it, it’s none of your business!"
Carson changed the subject back, "No bet... How did you know Kylan is sure to win?"
Camille whispered, "I just got off the phone with my brother. He talked about the business deal. Legacy Lozano was never in competition with Kylan. How can Lozano’s influence compare to the Martinez Family’s? With Kylan sure to win, he goes off arranging a race like this. It’s completely unnecessary, so there must be something fishy about the race."
Carson had an epiphany, "Insider information, no wonder."
Camille nodded, "Most of the betting activities available are operated internally, like football, horse racing, car racing, etc. There’s inner communication, and who loses and wins is often predetermined. Usually, both winners and losers end up with their own gains."
Carson mused, "You’re saying that Legacy Lozano was already outmatched by Kylan, but he set up this race and even invited Iker Combs, and Kylan agreed. That means Kylan is sure to win, which suggests that this race is actually just a performance by Kylan and Legacy?"
Camille replied with a light laugh, "That should be the case. They’ve certainly made a private agreement. Legacy Lozano gives up the project and even goes to the extent of glorifying Kylan. In return, Kylan must have promised something else to Legacy. Hence, this race may be thrilling, but the outcome has been predestined."
Carson laughed, "If you didn’t know this, wouldn’t you have been duped by Kylie?"
Camille answered with a laugh, "Kylie may not know the truth. She might just be blindly believing in her brother. If it were a fair bet, I might have taken the gamble for the sake of the Racing God, but it’s just a show, there’s no need to willingly lose and get slapped in the face by her."
Carson looked around where the crowd was thick near the betting area, smiling involuntarily, "Whom do you think most people are betting on?"
Camille responded, "Naturally, most people are betting on Iker Combs. The fame of the Wilderness Racing God is immense. Plus, because of the odds – betting on Kylan gives only a 30% return, which isn’t much, but for Iker, the risk is higher and so is the profit. Anyone with a brain would bet on Iker."
Carson asked curiously, "How much do you think has been wagered on this race?"
Camille answered, "At least several tens of millions. With some luck, maybe even over a hundred million. After all, this event has been hyped up for many days. Those who know about it won’t miss the chance. The regular folks might bet three or five thousand, but the businessmen place bets in the millions. It adds up to a significant amount."
Carson smiled, "This is just too easy a way to make money, winning both fame and fortune."
Twenty minutes later, the thrilling race commenced.
All the spectators were engulfed in nervous anticipation, yet Camille and Carson remained relaxed, not at all tense, for they already knew the result.
The race truly consisted of masters’ duels, the whole course was full of excitement, and even Carson couldn’t help but admire. Both racers were true masters, the best among the best in the racing world.
Carson pondered that even if he were racing, knowing the track well, he still might not be able to defeat them.
Kylan won.
He crossed the finish line first with a lead of half a car length, securing victory in the race.
Carson turned his head and said with a laugh, "It really was a spectacular race. They made it look so genuine that nobody could tell it was fixed..."
