The Female Cannon Fodder With Boundless Merits -
Chapter 315 - 319: The Altered Life (Part One)
Chapter 315: Chapter 319: The Altered Life (Part One)
In the previous life, because Wang Xiaochuan had done so much charity work, Su Li had also been credited with merit, and almost burst with the overwhelming flood of merits she received after returning to Chaos.
Belching satisfactorily, Su Li finally digested it all and discovered to her delight that she had "grown" a bit more.
It was the kind of growth that occurs when quantity leads to a qualitative leap.
When she reopened her eyes, that warm, comfortable feeling seemed to linger in her consciousness, making her current body stretch lazily as well.
This time, Su Li looked around her room and saw that the furnishings were unmistakably from the ’70s.
The body she now inhabited, the one that had received the merits, was that of the youngest daughter of the village chief’s family in Niu Tian Village.
Because from top to bottom, there were too many males in the household.
Boys were no longer a rarity in the Su Family; they yearned for a sweet, soft, little girl.
In an era that favored boys over girls, the original owner had been fortunate in her birth.
From the moment she was born, she was doted upon.
Not only by her parents and grandparents, but also by uncles, aunts, and several brothers who all held her precious in their hearts.
In the village, who didn’t work the fields for work points? Even young children, once they could walk, followed the older ones to pick up leftover grains.
But the original owner never had to do such work.
Let alone working the fields, she had never even touched a broom in the yard.
The original owner grew up as if she had been soaked in honey.
Later, when educated youths were sent to the countryside, their scholarly demeanor greatly appealed to her.
She always liked to follow them around, watching them read and write, and she made a fuss to learn as well.
Eventually, she joined them in taking the college entrance examination, but she failed.
Then, under her family’s matchmaking, she married a young man from a neighboring village.
If things had stayed that way, the original owner might have had the possibility of happiness.
A humble, ordinary happiness.
However, she inadvertently learned that she had been admitted to a university, but her acceptance letter had been accidentally torn by Hei Yatou. Fearing retribution if discovered, the girl simply buried the evidence in a hole.
It only came to light when her younger sister blurted it out during a quarrel in front of everyone, letting the truth be known.
By then, the original owner was already pregnant. What more could she do?
Could she possibly kill Hei Yatou for it?
Seeing the tremendous change in Qiao Xiaoxiao when she returned from university during vacations, the original owner’s resentment bubbled out continuously.
Later on, she took the college entrance exam several more times, but the original owner, hampered by family and children, never made it.
Meanwhile, the Qiao Family’s fortunes boomed thanks to Qiao Xiaoxiao, eventually moving out of the village.
As for the Su Family, they had not fared as well since Mr. Su stepped down from his position as village chief.
Because the original owner was so stubborn at heart, she grew emotionally distant from her husband, and her life ended up a complete mess.
The original owner always felt that her life wasn’t supposed to be this way.
She harbored lifelong regrets and resentments, knowing that she could have been a university student with endless possibilities, instead of being hopelessly trapped in the rural countryside.
To Su Li, the original owner’s wish was quite simple.
It was already past the college entrance exams, and all she had to do was wait for the notifications.
She simply needed to avoid letting Hei Yatou come into contact with her acceptance letter.
The original owner from her past life never gave much thought to how her acceptance letter ended up with Hei Yatou; she was too blinded by rage. If her family hadn’t restrained her, she would have actually gone forward to give Hei Yatou a beating.
That brought up a question, though. The home of Hei Yatou was not far from the Su family’s, separated only by a muddy path, yet the difference between the two was quite stark.
Hei Yatou’s house was nothing but a simple thatched cottage, while the Su Family’s was one of the few blue brick and red-tiled houses in the village.
Surely the messenger wouldn’t make such a mistake as to deliver her admission letter to Hei Yatou’s house, right?
Even if it really was delivered to Hei Yatou’s house, could she bring herself to deliberately tear up such an obvious item as an admission letter?
The original owner seemed to have no quarrels with Hei Yatou and even took good care of her.
Because their homes were close, if the original owner had some tasty snacks and more than enough, she would even purposely share some with Hei Yatou.
It didn’t make sense...
"Li Bao, are you awake yet? If you’re up, come quickly, Granny has something nice..."
Through the door, Granny Su called out softly.
It was quite a feat for her, considering her naturally loud voice, which she now tempered as if afraid to startle Su Li, being so careful.
Su Li quickly got out of bed. The scorching heat made her sweat profusely, even though she was only wearing a light, short-sleeved top.
"Granny, I’m coming."
Upon opening the door, Granny Su’s wrinkled face bloomed into a smile like a flower, looking at Su Li’s hand over and over.
"Oh, my granddaughter is just so beautiful."
Su Li’s skin prickled as her rough hand caressed her, and without showing any discomfort, she gently withdrew her hand and asked in bewilderment, "Granny, what was the nice thing you mentioned?"
Granny Su whispered mysteriously, "It’s a watermelon. Your daddy just brought it back. I’ve had it cooling in well water. Now, come sit at the table quickly, and I’ll cut it for you to eat."
"Eat more before your brothers, who are like a bunch of little rascals, come back."
Su Li was amused. It was just a watermelon, and Granny Su was acting as if she were a thief.
Seeing the indifference on her well-behaved granddaughter’s face, Granny Su straightened up her expression, "You silly girl, your brothers all adore you. They certainly wouldn’t mind even if you eat more, but what about your sisters-in-law? They’re not as close to you as your brothers are..."
"Hurry up, trust Granny, there’s nothing wrong with that, and besides, it’s what your Daddy brought back."
Granny Su was poised to launch into a long lecture if Su Li didn’t agree, and Su Li, not wanting to face that, quickly nodded her head in agreement.
Now Granny Su was satisfied and smiled again. "You go sit down, Granny will cut it for you now."
The watermelon freshly pulled from the water had a bright green skin studded with crystal-clear droplets.
Cutting it open down the middle, the shiny black seeds were set against the bright red flesh, with juice dripping down onto the table from the knife, looking delicious.
The blistering heat of the afternoon seemed to cool off a few degrees in the presence of the cool fruit.
Granny Su handed Su Li a big slice of the watermelon.
With one bite, the coolness spread from head to toe, refreshingly comfortable.
The heat on her forehead retreated in an instant.
The watermelon was both sweet and crisp. Su Li nibbled on three slices before she held her stomach and let out a small satisfied burp.
Granny Su watched Su Li eat with delight, her affectionate gaze following each bite, and as soon as one piece was finished, she immediately handed another to Su Li.
"Granny, I can’t eat anymore."
"Eat a little more, you haven’t eaten much at all."
Su Li glanced at the vast majority of the watermelon now in her stomach, unsure of what to say.
This was considered not eating much?
"Let’s save the rest for other family members, and you should eat some too, Granny. You’ve been so busy watching me eat."
Granny Su: "How could my granddaughter be so dutiful..."
Su Li: "....."
In the original owner’s memory, this scene was all too familiar, an essential part of the daily praises heaped on the granddaughter.
