The Enhanced Doctor -
Chapter 45 - 045 Qin Hai Fires Again
Chapter 45: 045 Qin Hai Fires Again
Even though the patient with rhabdomyolysis had been referred elsewhere, Liu Banxia still cared deeply about him. He was relieved to learn that the fasciotomy he performed hadn’t caused any neurological damage to the patient. Yet, he was regretful upon learning that the patient was indeed suffering from acute renal failure.
It’s always a contradiction for doctors. They yearn for their judgments to be correct, but frequently, these judgments are not what patients want to hear.
When Liu Banxia returned home from work, he began his training. He needed to improve his fundamental surgical skills, which meant practicing dissection. But he wasn’t too reckless. He only exchanged 5 Glory Points, leaving 38 points untouched. Although the shop was greedy in its prices, the products it offered were excellent. You never knew when they would be needed. Like with attribute points, he dared not be too frivolous for the time being. The only regret was that this round of training didn’t earn him any experience. Nonetheless, it did enable him to better understand his body.
The next day, he left home early. For some reason, he always avoided meeting the Jiang family. Perhaps he was afraid they would ask for his advice, and he didn’t know what he should respond.
Like the previous day, he clocked in and headed directly to the proctology department. This was his grinding spot. Here, he could easily complete his daily tasks and improve his skills in dressing wounds and ligating anal fistulas.
"Oh, Brother Guan, where’s Director Jiang?" Liu Banxia asked curiously upon arrival.
"He’s in a meeting. A notice was issued last night to move the monthly meeting earlier, and it was scheduled for this morning. Something must have come up," Guan Wei responded.
That’s what I was thinking. "All the big shots in the general surgery department were not to be seen either. So, Brother Guan, who’s changing dressings today?" asked Liu Banxia.
"You’re just in time! Hurry up. Opportunities don’t come knocking twice," Guan Wei joked.
Upon hearing Guan Wei’s words, the doctors in the proctology department all laughed. They were familiar with Liu Banxia, and his work was indeed reliable.
The patients were also happy to see Liu Banxia. They knew he was filling in temporarily. However, they wished he could be permanently stationed in the proctology department.
DING! Daily task completed (20/20)
Gain 300 experience points, 5 Glory Points
Congratulations, host! You have leveled up to Level 19, 21,479/23,345, gained 1 attribute point, and 5 Glory Points.
It was only after completing his daily tasks that Liu Banxia managed to level up. But now the experience points gained from grinding here were fewer, although he could still improve his skills in changing dressings.
Since he was grinding anyway, he might as well change dressings happily.
While he was happily changing dressings, Qin Hai, who was attending a meeting in the main building, was rather agitated. The topic of today’s meeting was the resident training program at the Second Hospital.
His resentment towards Liu Banxia intensified. It’s all because of him that this sensitive issue was exposed! Even though Liu Banxia is a resident in the general surgery department, the problem originated in *my* Emergency Department!
"The issue pointed out by Vice Director Zhou is quite serious, fully revealing the many deficiencies in our teaching work," remarked Chen Zhenxing, the Chief Director of the Second Hospital, in a calm voice.
"This isn’t the fault of any one individual, but an issue for all of us administrators. We often focus too much on our research and medical management, and as a result, we have neglected the most important issue.
"Even in our Second Hospital, there’s a serious drain of personnel. If we can’t make achievements in team training, we’ll have a personnel gap in a few years.
"If anyone has any insights or suggestions, feel free to share. Two heads are better than one. If we can’t do our teaching work well, we will lag further behind the First Hospital and the municipal hospital.
"The Third Hospital is now even more popular than us in Binhai City. The Fourth Hospital is a dental specialist hospital, and its national ranking is quite high."
"Chief Director, I’m in charge of the training work. I should be held primarily responsible for this issue," said Zhou Zhiyong.
Chen Zhenxing gestured with his hand. "As I said, this isn’t anyone’s responsibility, but our collective responsibility. Although each of us has different roles, the resident doctors are distributed throughout various departments in our Second Hospital."
"Chief Director, I have some personal views," Qin Hai couldn’t hold it back any longer.
He had to speak up now. If he waited for everyone else to express their regrets and accept their responsibilities, would it be his turn to confess his issue next, and then take all the blame?
Chen Zhenxing nodded. "Director Qin, you’ve been working in our Second Hospital for a long time. Let’s hear your opinion."
"Chief Director, everyone, I’ll just tell you what’s on my mind today," said Qin Hai.
"We’ve been practicing medicine for so many years and have supervised many resident doctors. I don’t know how you all feel, but it seems to me that it’s getting harder and harder to manage these youngsters.
"Back in our days, there were hardly any complaints. We wished to tear ourselves in two every day, striving to participate in every single case.
"What about these kids today? They demand rest, surgeries, and better compensation and benefits. If you rest, will you still have time to study? If you want to perform surgeries, do you have the skills? If you want better compensation and benefits, have you made significant contributions?
"I believe that each one of us here chooses the ones they trust to assign surgical tasks. The operating room is like a battlefield that doesn’t tolerate any negligence. We carry this responsibility not only for ourselves but also for our patients."
Qin Hai’s words received a lot of approval. This was an indisputable fact. Medical conditions vary greatly, and not every patient’s symptoms fit perfectly within a diagnosis.
Zhou Shuwen looked at Qin Hai with faint amusement. This is rather amusing, he thought. He’s probably going to drag Liu Banxia into this any minute now.
"Another issue is that these young people today are very audacious. There’s nothing they dare not or cannot do," Qin Hai continued.
"Director Zhou, it’s as we discussed last time; I’m focused on the issue, not targeting anyone personally. I’m about to retire; there’s no point in arguing with a resident doctor.
"Liu Banxia performed a cesarean section on a patient without the presence of an attending physician, which is a first in our Second Hospital. Then he opened a patient’s abdomen in the emergency room to stop the bleeding, saving the patient.
"We were lucky. He was successful both times. What about the third time? Should he be amputating limbs or performing craniotomies in the emergency room? Can we continue to be this lucky every time?
"I think in addition to improving our teaching work, we should pay more attention to discipline. Anyone undisciplined or disorganized must not be tolerated."
Many people had never even heard of Liu Banxia’s name. Now it was clear that despite Qin Hai speaking in a veiled manner, he was targeting Liu Banxia. Moreover, the fact that Liu Banxia was singled out during such a meeting made things interesting. Was Old Qin going to confront Old Zhou?
