Chapter 177: Calm Before the Chaos

Chapter 177: Calm Before the Chaos

When his subordinates sent back question marks expressing confusion, he silently forwarded his new order.

[ Use only the finest-grade magic crystals for crafting weapons! The higher the quality, the better! ]

When his subordinate saw the new command, there was a brief moment of silence.

Naturally, he understood the implication.

Using such high-quality crystals to forge weaponsz only the demons, with their vast mineral resources, could even afford to do such a thing.

Suddenly, he felt a touch of pity for those fallen demons. A flicker of sympathy passed through his eyes.

That’s what they get for being scum. See? Their retribution is coming.

One could only imagine the look on their faces when they realized the weapons they carried were the very things that would bring them death. It would be... shocking, surely?

Just thinking about it brought joy~

That joy was clearly reflected in the way his subordinate moved.

Sebastian saw it with his own eyes.

After receiving the new task, his subordinate actually skipped twice on his way out.

For a moment, he felt a little horrified.

God help him... Had his workload caused his subordinates to mentally snap? That shouldn’t be possible... right?

Then Sebastian saw the subordinate not only skipping but also stop by the roadside, crouch down, and gently pat a flower bud.

Damn, now that was really disturbing.

His subordinates were definitely losing it!!

Today, Sebastian was on the verge of a breakdown.

In a certain mysterious location—

A man wearing a white mask and a white knight’s uniform trimmed with gold thread suddenly stopped in front of a dilapidated old house.

After scanning the area and confirming there was no one around, he stepped forward and knocked gently on the door.

Creak—

Just as his knock echoed, the long-neglected door creaked open from the inside, making an ear-piercing sound.

"You came?" The voice from inside the house was hoarse and rough, worse than the groaning of an old bellows.

The originally low and raspy voice suddenly rose in pitch, becoming even more grating, with some syllables fractured and unable to form sound. "I told you all not to wear anything that could expose your identity! Are you hoping we’ll get discovered?!"

The masked man’s hand, which had been hanging at his side, clenched tightly and the expression beneath his mask turned extremely unpleasant.

No one had ever spoken to him in such a way before.

However, this time, he was here seeking something, though that didn’t mean he was going to sit back and take it.

"Heh... Let’s put that aside for now. At this point, we’re all grasshoppers tied to the same rope. Don’t forget what you promised us. You should know, it’d be all too easy to make your entire race the enemy of the world. Just your bad luck that you happen to meet all the conditions to become a ’public enemy.’"

As soon as those words dropped, the man inside the house went silent, clearly intimidated by something.

Only after a long pause did he speak again, this time with a much calmer tone. "Hmph, like you’re any better. Fine, we’ll help you create the chaos. The rest is up to you. But you must keep your promise: release my people the day before the ’war.’ Otherwise... I’m already broken. I won’t hesitate to turn on you."

The masked man let out a furious laugh, his voice tight like it was forced through clenched teeth. "Fine. Deal’s a deal."

"Deal’s a deal."

...

After his discussion with Sebastian about the possibility of a collaboration between the Yaguk Theocracy and the Fallen Demons, and after conspiring to prepare some "surprises" for any Fallen Demons that might appear on the battlefield, Illiya completely cut contact with all demons.

Perhaps it was because the date of the war was drawing near.

As an elf, especially one considered a reclusive people, Illiya was not supposed to interfere in conflicts between the other races of the continent.

After all, to others, that would be incredibly unfair.

The main issue was that elves were too powerful and the others... not so much.

What was truly odd, though, was that during this entire time, Illiya hadn’t just avoided demons, he hadn’t seen any of his companions either.

Drow who was suspected of being his soul-bonded partner, seemed to be secretly plotting something big, he keeps acting all sneaky.

Seoryun and Darius were, if Illiya guessed correctly, currently attending a pre-war strategy meeting for the Allied Continent’s side in the war.

Neither of them wanted to go, but it was their duty.

Especially since Areuseon Kingdom had yet to clearly pick a side.

Illiya figured that the next iteration of the war wouldn’t be like this one.

More and more countries would likely defect, right now, most were just hiding it.

So where had that Eoryun run off to?

Illiya didn’t know and didn’t care to guess.

Most likely, he’d gone off to the Cold Pool to hang out with his new best friend, the Ice flower.

There was gossip that the Ice flower was going to take human form any day now, though Illiya wasn’t sure how true that was.

The last time he checked, that flower shouldn’t have been able to take human form for at least a few more months, maybe even a year. And now it was suddenly ready? Who knew what the reason was.

Whatever. How was a regular elf like Illiya supposed to understand the mysteries of a transmigrator?

He, Illiya, was just an ordinary underage little elf.

He sincerely hoped the day of the war would come soon. He was honestly bored out of his mind. Just because he didn’t like talking to people didn’t mean he didn’t need any human interaction, okay!?

This was seriously infuriating!

He suddenly found himself missing the days back in the Elven Forest, when he’d confiscate novels hidden by his teachers.

As the days passed, Illiya waited impatiently while the atmosphere in the Demon Realm grew more and more tense.
