The Dragon Queen and her mates. -
Chapter 83: So fickle
Chapter 83: So fickle
And that was when Cian’s throat completely closed up, he stood up from the couch that he was sitting on when his brother said those words, he walked to the small bar that has been built just for him in the room and picked up the bottle that was exquisitely designed with crystal white glass and filled with golden yellow liquid. He wasn’t an alcoholic but damn they made him feel something other than the annoyance and anger he was feeling these days, after he was done filling up his glass he twisted and came back to his seat. If he was going to do this, he will need another round of liquid courage but the truth was he was trying to look at anywhere but his eldest brother when Orman was looking at him. And God, if that wasn’t absolutely pitiful, was it not? " Oh, and you came here just to confirm whether or not I was kicked out of my wife’s bedroom?"
Orman sighed, as he picked up the glass of fire whiskey that was in front of him. Funny, how the guy liked something so spiced up despite coming from the sea. " You know how important it was for us, for you to stay so close to her, don’t you? Have you forgotten why we sent you here?"
Cian rolled his eyes as he drowned the sloshing rum down his parched throat as he answered, " You know she is my mate, I cannot just barge in her room and kill without killing myself in the wake of it, don’t you brother?"
Crossing his arms after putting the glass down, Orman let out another sigh as if he was tired of trying to get through Cian. Good because the sooner he tires him out the quicker this will end, all right? "Yes, I know. And that’s why I didn’t ask you to assassinate her anymore but instead, I asked you to get closer to her, close enough that the heir of the Dragniere Empire will come from you. Cian you don’t understand, this is very important for us and our kingdom, in the entire harem only your situation is awkward even when compared to that blood-sucking leech, do you know why is that?"
Cian laughed and his laughter filled the entirely dense Victorian bedroom. " Of course I do, I am the one who is living here all right?"
Their kingdom was different from others because it was the kingdom that was conquered by the Dragon Queen, basically, he could be called what everyone would say ’war trophy’, and it was exactly under this name that his brother sent him to the Dragon Queen. A war trophy that was nice to look at, conquering to touch but in the end it was nothing but a trophy that served no basic purpose and was forgotten unless remembered by some slight glimpse or something, which was why his voice was so important for him, it was his songs that made the Queen remember about him and now that they were gone, he was just sitting in his cabinet being peppered by dust and grime.
" I know my situation better than you do brother."
Orman stared at him, as he carefully studied his face before he placed the heel of his palm on his thighs and rubbed them. " If so then you should also know how important it is for you to become the Emperor, Cian. I know it is a lot of pressure and I am basically pushing you to the crux of the storm but we have no other choice. Bellion has become a laughing stock among all the merfolks in the ocean, you have no idea how many times our border was almost trespassed by those annoying neighbours of ours, they are making fun of us, treating us like fools just because the Dragon Queen barged in our kingdom and conquered it."
" She just did not conquer it, she literally forced our army on its knees," mused Cian, forcing himself to delay the conversation about Bree. If he was to talk about her right now, it will be like self-inflicted torture and he wasn’t one who liked pain, all right? " Is the army general okay? Did he recover from the blow?"
" He is fine, still goes on about how the Dragon Queen played dirty by fighting a bunch of merfolks with her monstrous powers but apart from that he is recovering well," and from the twitch of his brother’s left eye, the general was still going on about taking their kingdom back like it was a candy that the Dragon Queen stole from them. " Anyway that’s not what’s important, I and the rest of your brothers have come to the realisation that we are a defeated kingdom and we have no intention of attacking the Queen but we do need an heir under our name Cian, you know the firstborn of any consort will have the right to lead his or her paternal family, you knew you couldn’t let go of this opportunity so why did you have to mess up?"
He feigned annoyance slurping the rum. " I didn’t do anything it was the plan of the other consorts, I just went along with it."
" And that’s all right for them, they are the members of the Dragniere empire even if they aren’t consorts anymore, them losing favour is all right but not you, Cian! Now the Bellion Kingdom is under a series of trespassing attacks and our neighbours couldn’t take us as lightly anymore than this, you being the consort was the only thing stopping them and if you even lose that one thing that protects our Kingdom then what use are you here?"
Cian’s grip around the wine glass tightened so much that he almost snapped it in half. Yeah, that was the only thing he was good at, wasn’t he? Smiling? Playing dress-up and seducing the Queen once in a while. " You are taking this far too seriously, brother. Every couple has differences every now and then, but it doesn’t mean that they are going to separate and walk on a different path. The Queen is angry with me, I get it but soon she won’t be, you know how fickle she is?"
So fickle that she could even betray her mates.
