Chapter 76: Am I disturbing something?
"I was really scared you know?"
A familiar voice woke Harley up as she hurriedly got to her feet and hid behind a tree just in time as two maids from the laundry department walked out carrying big baskets of washed clothes. Harley, of course, recognised both of them, one was the red-headed maid who was called by the Dragon Queen to her office and the other was her side chick with a stupid thug-like face, called Becky.
" Did the Queen just call you to have tea with her?" asked Becky, just like her face that was a carbon copy of her brother with scrawny features and loads of pimples scattered over her nose and cheeks, her voice had a deep timbre like that of a man. So, when she spoke it was as if a man was speaking.
" I don’t know," replied Rebecca with an eye roll, as she placed the basket of laundry down and then stood back up before arching her back. " If I knew would I be discussing it with you? Stupid." She drawled her words nice and long before shaking her head. " Goodness Becky, if you get any slower than this, I am worried you will be studying the ways of a woman again, how can you be like this?"
With a sheepish expression, Becky looked at Rebecca and said, "It’s just I don’t understand why the Queen called for you, don’t you think it’s weird? She sent guards to take you away, asked you to drink tea, questioned you a little and then sent you back? Don’t you think that it’s a little off?"
" Of course, I think it’s freaking off!" said Rebecca as she crouched down and picked up a dress that could only belong to the Dragon Queen and hung it on the thick rope that was attached to two poles on distinct ends. " I do know that everything that the Queen asked me was weird as heck, I mean why will the Queen ask me where I was last night even I thought that maybe I was in trouble because you know——" she paused and then looked around the clearing, Harley ducked even further behind the tree when she saw Rebecca was looking her way.
" There are rumours going around the palace apparently someone snuck inside the office of the Queen and used the Royal seal locked in the treasure chest to stamp on the request of Duke Cilantro. I thought that maybe I was being questioned because of that but the Queen didn’t even say a harsh word to me, you know? That was like a shocker. I have always seen the Queen as someone cold and devoid of any emotions, even my sister who works in the Dragon Palace said that if I caught the attention of the Dragon Queen I should be prepared to lose my head but surprisingly, the Queen is not that irrational, she is someone who can judge the situation properly."
Harley didn’t hear the rest of Rebecca’s speech as she gushed about the Queen, all her attention was on the fact that the Queen was able to still think rationally. Honestly, this was never supposed to happen, with the pressure that the ministers were putting down on her, her patience should have been broken by now and she should have swung her sword at someone, even if it was a simple maid. But instead—-
She bit the nail of her thumb as the cogs in her head started to turn, why? Why wasn’t the Queen reacting in the way she should have?
Bree sneezed, almost ruining the document that she was signing but thankfully her years of working in the corporate world stopped her. With the flick of her wrist, she turned the quill in another direction before it got dragged on the paper and saved the document from getting ruined.
" Your majesty, are you all right?" asked Dion who raised his head from the new ’decree of retirement’ that he was writing upon the order of the Queen. " Should I call a healer?"
A cold that could make even a Dragon sneeze wasn’t something to be taken as lightly.
" I am fine," sniffing slightly, Bree rubbed her nose as she said, " I think someone is bad-mouthing me behind my back."
Dion chuckled as he shook his head. " Bad mouthing the Queen? Who dares to do something like that? Aren’t they worried about losing their tongues?"
" You have no idea how much of a daredevil people can be, Dion." Bree finished signing the document in front of her and then picked up the new royal seal that was ordered by Dion to be made by the Tower of magic. This time they introduced another trick in the seal and that was —— to touch skin. Basically, it was like the touchscreen lock pad that only started working after recognising the thumb pattern of its owner.
Bree didn’t want another incident like the one that happened yesterday night to repeat, so she asked the tower of magic to change the seal. Of course, the stamp was still the same but the old simple one was discarded under the threat of unknown forces.
Dion laughed out loud at this, if this was the Queen from before he would have done everything in his power to not even let his lips curl up in a smile much less laugh like this but then again this wasn’t the old Queen. She was lively and joked around a lot, working with her was much more fun than before or else in the past, it looked like he was coming to the office to serve jail time. " You are right, your majesty." Still chuckling he sighed. " The people of our Empire are indeed too much of a daredevil, but maybe it’s just that they don’t know what’s good for them."
Bree snorted. " Oh, they know what’s good for them they just want to be a pain in my ass."
" Your majesty, please..." though Dion tried to stop her, his laugh that escaped after a second from his mouth gave him away.
" Am I disturbing something?"
