" Why did you do that Master?" asked Aileen as he looked at his master, he couldn’t understand why his master stepped in for the second consort. Even if the latter died, it would have never made an impact on the Queen, if anything she would have looked for someone new to replace, there would have been no damage and it would have been a great opportunity for his master to make a move and gain the attention as well as the trust of the Queen so why did he do something as unnecessary as saving the life of the second consort? If anything that man wouldn’t be even grateful to them if he ever found out that it was due to his master that his life was saved. " You could have just left him to die, master so why didn’t you?"

" I could have left him alone, yes..." Yakov agreed as he flipped the page of the book he was reading. " You are right, I could have left him alone but I didn’t —— because even if he is my rival, don’t forget that I am the Chancellor of this Empire, if I stayed silent then surely I would have been able to win over my rival once and for all but you know? As a Chancellor, I would have failed my Empire and that’s something that I would never want, for I live for the pride as an heir of the Sceptre and you know what the Sceptre family stands for?"

" For rules and discipline," answered Aileen, his eyes were closed but he could sense that his master was under the weather and why wouldn’t he be once again for the sake of his title, position and the upbringing that he got, he had to make a choice that he didn’t like.

" That’s right, rules and discipline..that’s what the Sceptres stand for if I had ignored what happened tonight then I would have let down my family, my clan and maybe Bree as well." Yakov skimmed his finger on the bandage that Bree has tied on his hand and remembered the expression on her face, he only got a small burn because of her and yet she looked so guilty as if she had caused him a great injury. If he stayed silent and let Ahmar die, then what would have happened to Bree? He didn’t want to think about it.

Maybe she would have felt guilty all her life and wouldn’t have forgotten that blood-sucking leech ever.

" In a way, I did a favour on myself," said Yakov as he tilted his head on the back of the couch and sucked in a breath before closing his eyes. " If that bastard had died then maybe our dear queen might have remembered him in a way or another, with this there are no chances for that leech to stay in the mind of Bree, if he died today then he would have died an unjust death and maybe the Queen would have been blamed for it but now there is no way such a thing would have happened so we are all safe, aren’t we? With this, there are still many opportunities for that rat ass bastard to f*ck it up and then we can kiss him goodbye with a well-deserving death, what do you say Aileen?"

" Right you are, my lord," agreed Aileen at once but then he paused and added, " But are you sure the second consort will make a mistake?"

" Oh, that guy is as clumsy as Cian both of them will one day for sure make a mistake that will get them in big trouble."

Bang!

A loud sound of something being hurled at the floor echoed in the maid’s headquarters as everyone who was awake turned to look at the room from where the sound came from.

A blonde maid frowned and then looked at the maid who was walking next to her and said, " She is at it again, ever since she came here, she has been breaking this and smashing that—— how is this going to work huh? Isn’t this simply too much, I mean—— how can she break things at will? As if she owns everything that’s around here?"

The maid walking next to her rolled her eyes and said, " Because she still thinks that she is still the lady in waiting of the Queen and all the consorts are just as close to her as they once work," the maid snorted as she spat on the ground right in front of the room from where the sound came from. " Haven’t you seen? She always avoids work and goes to look for the consorts, heh, like really? Will they look in her direction when they have someone like the Queen? She is the holy light of the Empire the very reason this Empire exists, if something happens to her, it will be nothing but disaster. Yet she is after the men of the Queen, is she serious?"

" Isn’t that right," a maid who was carrying a basket of dried laundry commented from behind. " All day she just thinks of seducing men, what can she even have in her head other than men? Bet she heard the news that the Dragon Queen is spending the night at the second consort’s place and that’s why she is like this —— or why else will she be this upset? Humph, at least take a look at yourself and then look at the status from where you come from, before dreaming so high. The Dragon Queen is someone who was born with a diamond spoon in her hand and we didn’t even have a wooden one, I can’t even understand what goes in the head of that girl when she eyes the consorts?"

" True I heard she tried to plead on behalf of the Second consort and angered the Queen."

Just as they were busy gossiping, the door of the room opened and then an angry shout echoed behind them. " If you have something to say then say it outright what are you hissing and whispering for? Just say it outright!"
