Chapter 284: Goal to discredit the royal name

"What are you doing here, Third Consort?" Ahmar asked with a smile that was certainly not friendly. He eyed the man with great distaste and snapped his gaze towards Bree before he said, "I have nothing. Absolutely nothing against your freedom and choice, Your Majesty. But do you have to be with this sneaky cat first?"

"I am not doing what you think I was doing," said Bree while nursing a headache as the three men confronted one another.

Ahmar seemed furious, but Yakov was simply enraged. He went nose to nose with Blaise and questioned, "What—just what do you think you are doing in my office? Do you think, as a decent person, you should have done such a thing?"

"Firs consort —"

"Nope," Blaise’s smile widened as he stated, "But then this wouldn’t have been fun."

"Third consort!"

Blaise’s smile was pure taunt as he said to Yakov, "Alright, stop worrying. I might have had some crooked teaching when I was growing up. I still know the difference between decency and being downright arsehole. So you don’t have to worry. I will not do anything that would cross the boundaries of decency."

Yakov seemed a bit mollified. But he was still breathing heavily as he asked, "What are you doing here then?"

"Nothing like you are imagining," Bree sighed. She knew that this would happen the second she had seen the refined furniture. There was only one person who had such an elegance in the palace that even the things he used had a completely different essence.

Looking at the quill that was sitting in the quillholder at a certain angle, Bree was surprised that she didn’t notice it at first glance. She turned to look at the man who was now eyeing her with a tangle of emotions. He seemed to be wanting to say something, but then a second later, he shook his head and turned to look at Blaise.

"You were with her majesty?" He asked gruffly.

"Yes, I was." Blaise nodded as he explained the ins and outs of the matter. He then turned to look at Bree and added, "The two of us have been looking for clues to decipher what is written in the scrolls. But it seemed like the dark mages had placed a taboo spell. Every time someone tries to publish anything regarding them or the Death Riders, they would end up dying, and the information before publishing would be changed into completely different statements."

This was the only plausible explanation. Though it would require a lot of mana for such a big spell to come to life, Blaise also knew that the Death Riders were simply fanatics who thought and believed that Prince Leon was their God.

Even though the man had gone through several changes and had even exchanged human bodies that he used as shells like he was changing clothes, they still trusted him.

Why he could not understand. Leon was the kind of man who was a coward. Like a small, venomous snake who believed that he could conquer a dragon,, he hid in the shadows and was waiting for the dragon’s attention to divert such that he could bite it to death.

But no matter how venomous a snake was, in the end he was just a small, sneaky son of a gun and nothing else.

He had to be barking mad if Leon thought that after taking on another shell, changing his name to something else, and bringing a bunch of half-shifters under his wing, he would be able to bring Bree down.

This woman was the one who fought her first war at the age of fifteen.

When Leon didn’t even know how to wield a sword, Bree had taken down thousands of heads with her own skills. If he was as skilled as Bree, then would his father have tried such vicious means to kill his daughter? The late emperor knew that Leon would never be able to defeat Bree. This was the reason.

Thus, he sent Bree to battlefields one after another. If there was no war, he would send her to conquer another nation. That man had hoped that Bree would die in her escapade. But when she didn’t, he tried to kill her himself before dying on his own.

"This is not good," Ahmar frowned as he turned to look at Yakov, who stood beside him. "Since that man is trying to make sneaky moves like this. I am afraid that he would definitely make Eve and her brothers cause trouble for us sooner or later."

Yakov sneered, "Let them. I am not scared of their retaliation; in fact, I am waiting for them to make a move such that I can deal with them." He had been itching for that woman to make a fuss such that he could confront her, the sooner she made a move, the sooner he would deal with her.

"Be rational," Bree stated when she saw the man snarling. She knew what Yakov meant by those words, but they couldn’t afford to make big ripples for now. "I know that you are upset with the lies that she has told others, but I would like it if you don’t confront her. It would only make Lady Eve believe that she succeeded in getting what she wanted."

She was not happy about Lady Eve’s claims either. According to the upgraded rumour, Yakov had made some sort of claim on her, had promised her the world, and then left her alone for the power and authority that Bree could give to him.

In fact, there was a subtle addition that the Bree and Lady Eve also had a confrontation where the woman had stood her ground and fought back for the lover who turned her back on her.

It was a really subtle move, but enough to discredit the Royal family and name. But it was working. People were now questioning her if she had used her power as the Empress to suppress Eve.

The smart ones would have enough brains to think that Bree, as someone who had gone to war, would have better things to do than get involved in a cat fight with a little lying woman, but no, in their eyes, Bree was still a woman.

And it was totally normal for her to lose control of her emotions.

Like it would ever happen. If only she knew —
