Chapter 282: Entangled troubles

"Arrange for white flowers instead of the red ones," Bree said to Dion when she looked at the red roses that were brought to her office.

"Are you sure?" Dion paused and looked at her with a hint of surprise in his eyes. For the past three years, they had always used red flowers that looked as if they were bleeding. This was the first time Bree was asking the flowers to be changed, surprising him so much that he stopped taking notes and looked directly into her eyes.

Bree hummed. Though she liked the red roses, she didn’t want the banquet hall to be covered with them. It was better to have a dreamy setup for the New Year’s ball instead of a flaming red one. It might feel a bit gaudy.

"It’s funny how they want to hold a banquet but refuse to pay attention to the missing people," commented Bree as she turned on her feet and headed out of the banquet hall. She rubbed her head as she felt distraught with all the nightmares that were plaguing her. She could have lived a peaceful life like the rest if she had turned a blind eye to the things that were going on in the empire. The only problem was that she couldn’t do it.

She raised her head and looked at Dion before asking, "How did the council react to the people going missing?"

"They refuse to admit that it was done by the Death Riders; instead, they have spread the rumours that the half-shifters had created another rebellion and are causing the disappearance." Dion promptly replied as he passed the new scroll that was distributed in the empire.

Bree read the information on the scroll and clicked her tongue once she finished reading. As the scroll flashed another segment of news, she rolled it up and remarked, "It seemed like they are heavily relying on Moonlit."

"That’s right," Dion nodded. "Because of this, the entire situation is in chaos. With our empire claiming that Semel is back and the council insisting that there is no such thing, the commoners had been caught up in a wave of confusion. They don’t understand whether they should take precautions or not."

"What about the consorts?" Bree asked as she recalled the troubles that were brewing in the palace. Though she trusted her consorts, she also knew that someone was trying to make use of the consorts to deal with her.

"Its just as you expected," Dion stated as he handed another round of paper stacks that he had collected. "Someone did stir the hornets’ nest. While the traces have more or less disappeared, I found a few things. A few weeks ago, Princess Rosalie went to the temple on the east coast, though King Pierre spread the rumour that it was due to her desire to get a child and wanted to pray for her body and mind to get better. I believe something happened there."

"A priestess who had been studying in the temple went missing after the princess returned home. Even though her traces were gone and most of the priests forgot that such a woman even existed... the high priest however, had a few memories of that priestess and I was lucky enough to meet with him before those memories disappeared."

"It must be because the high priest has a lot of mana," Bree remarked as she flipped the papers and read the information that was contained in them. "The magic spell that was cast on them must have had a little effect on him or it is working slowly."

The good thing was that she and Dion made a move before everything was muddled up. Maybe the people behind these schemes didn’t know that they would make a move in such a hurry when the four consorts were being entangled in trouble one after another.

The person behind these little schemes would have thought that Bree would give in to her instincts and cause chaos. After all, the four men were her mates and she was instinctively possessive of them. If someone else claimed them as their own, Bree’s first reaction would be to kill them.

However, what Semel didn’t know was that Bree was not just a shifter but also a human. Even if she instinctively wanted to attack the other person, her soul restrained her. She would not lose her rationality just because someone attacked her men.

So, this scheme was bound to fail. Even if it caused trouble, Bree wouldn’t foolishly lose herself in jealousy.

"Is it the same for others?" Bree asked with surprise when she saw the information.

"Indeed," Dion nodded with a sigh as he looked at the papers that were stacked neatly in her hand and paused before saying, "Though there is no evidence to prove it, it seems it is indeed the case. "

Bree sighed. She stopped reading the information and muttered, "One thing after another."

She now wondered what kind of mess was waiting on Blaise and Ahmar’s part.

"Your majesty," Blaise raised his head and looked at Bree, who had arrived at the magic tower. He rushed to greet her with a smile on his lips. "I have been waiting for you. You promised to come here at noon."

"And I am here at noon," Bree remarked with a raise of her brow. "I don’t see how I lied to you, third consort?"

"You said noon and I thought you would be here before twelve. I never thought that you would be three hours late. Its almost evening at this point," Bree shook her head as she looked at the man who was dressed casually and questioned, "Aren’t you cold?"

"Are you worrying about me, your majesty?" Blaise asked with his eyes glittering with amusement.

"I just think you should be wearing something more than just a cloak to resist the cold," remarked Bree as she entered the magic tower.

"If I fell sick and you are the one taking care of me, then I think it will be worth it," Blaise remarked with a swift smile.

Bree shook her head. Given how flirty this man was, she could see the trouble that would be coming her way because of him. What she didn’t know was that the trouble that was headed for her had nothing to do with Blaise.
