Chapter 265: Pure and Evil
Bree sat up straight and covered her face with her hand. She didn’t know whether it was because she was riddled with troubles or because she was having a hard time; she had been having these dreams where if someone wasn’t dying in the hands of Semel, then someone was suffering an agony beyond human understanding.
She didn’t know it was because she and Semel had a connection, being their destined enemies or something of the sort. But the nightmares showed her things that made Bree’s skin crawl. Even now she could hear the screams of the woman who was being tortured by Semel.
He seemed to be looking for something or more like someone.
She rubbed her eyes with her thumb and forefinger before dropping her hand to the side. Staring at the sky that was slowly getting sprinkled with a pinkish hue, she got up from the bed and walked to the bathing room, where she washed up and got dressed in a hurry.
The schedule for the entire day was packed and Bree was too busy to continue sleeping. A shame, because her bed was literally crying at their separation.
"Good morning, your majesty," Blaise smiled at Bree, who paused as she entered the dining area and then glanced at the man who was already seated in the chair right next to her.
Bree tried hard to hide the scowl that was slowly making its way to her lips and questioned, "What are you doing here, third consort?"
Hearing her tone, Blaise refrained from laughing. Though Bree didn’t show it on her face, her eyes literally looked at him as if he was a trespasser who had snuck into her space, and maybe he was. Because the consorts usually had their breakfast in their own palace. But he missed her too much to stay away.
For the entire three days, he had been looking for information on the jackals who had tried to break into the palace. Those sneaky little things, he swore if he got his hands on them, he would not leave a single one of them alone.
"I just returned from Brakerville City, your highness," Blaise respectfully replied, even though what he wanted was to break down the defences of his mate and then take her down. "Though I wanted to return to my palace, I was too hungry and ended up coming to your palace when I smelled the scent of the delicious breakfast."
Bree snorted. She didn’t trust a single word that was coming out of the mouth of this man. She knew that Blaise had some other reason for coming here even if he was not telling anything to her. Yet.
She walked over and sat down on the high chair before pulling a dish of mashed potatoes and some bacon on her plate.
She had hardly laden anything when she felt a gaze boring into her body. She shifted uneasily and glanced at Blaise, who was staring at her as if she were the meal served on the table.
"What are you looking at??" she asked with a frown.
Blaise shrugged upon hearing her question, "I just like looking at you, your majesty. Your every action screams of elegance as fine and refined; I have never known or seen."
"I am just trying to eat."
"Like I said, you are elegant in everything that you do."
"Go to hell." Bree pursed her lips and tried to suppress the blush that was blooming on her cheeks.
Blaise was quite satisfied when he saw Bree knocked off her indifferent horse that she often rode and then scooped some onion soup in his bowl. He tore a piece of bread and placed it in his mouth while eyeing Bree carefully. He noticed that there was some tension in her eyes and she seemed to be a bit more troubled.
"Are you alright, your majesty?" He asked with raw concern, which he wasn’t faking.
Bree stopped in her actions and turned to look at the man sitting next to her; she nodded but after a second, she sighed and questioned, "Have you ever had dreams of someone—"
"Is that your way of telling me that you dreamed of me last night?" Blaise questioned before she could finish speaking. His expression lighting up as he stated, "I do have dreams about you. Just last night I dreamt about making love to you with only an inch of life left in your body."
He smiled when Bree looked at him in horror as if she hadn’t expected such words coming out from his mouth but then again, being a stiff and elegant, poised man wouldn’t get him his mate.
"Thats not what I meant," Clearing her throat, Bree looked away and then relayed the matter of the continuous nightmares that were plaguing her.
Once she finished speaking, Blaise turned quiet.
"What?" Bree asked when she saw him suddenly going silent.
Blaise cocked his head and shook his head. "Its nothing. Sometimes dreams and nightmares are more than just the fragments of your thoughts, your majesty. You might think that its unfeasible but maybe these nightmares of yours are not nightmares but something that man is doing or seeing."
"How can that be possible?" Bree thought it was too far-fetched; after all, she and Semel were not connected in any way.
"Because," Blaise paused. He then took hold of a glass of water and poured a single drop of water on the surface of the table. "As far as I know, the Dragniere family only gave birth to two children in every generation, no matter how many concubines a king had. Only two children would awaken as dragon shifters while the rest would follow their mothers. It is rumoured that the spirit of the ancient dragon offspring resides in the ruler. And these two spirits only choose two of the best offspring."
"While one of these souls is pure, the other is evil."
"And the actions of the two offspring are also determined by these spirits."
"So, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that you and Semel are connected in a way or two."
