" You don’t seem like you had fun, your majesty," this was the first thing Ahmar said to her when she walked inside the office where she has left him in charge. He was working on something with a quill in his hand and scribbling on the document that was resting in front of him, but he paused when he saw that she had walked in and placed the quill next to the document. " You did not tell anyone that you were returning, if you have sent word then I would have made preparations according to your return."

" I was only coming back there was no need for you to come and greet me," Bree replied before she looked at the pile of documents that was sitting in front of Ahmar and then she added, " You don’t look too well either." She looked at the dark circles that were under his eyes, she did think that there will be a lot of work for him to do but she never thought that it would become this bad.

Ahmar let out a dark chuckle as he stated dryly, " I am well of course other than the fact that the old officials are after my arse because of the sudden law that overrules slavery and everything else."

The law that Bree came up with to completely stop the use of slaves caused a huge uproar in the entire capital, the law forbid the use of slaves and even barred the people who were selling the slaves in their shops and as for those who had slaves in their houses, they were given ultimatums to come to the imperial palace and have the slaves’ names noted down such that if anything was to happen to the slaves under the care of their masters, the officials owning the slaves could be questioned.

When the officials found out that they will have to be responsible for the slaves and even give them payments and freedom along with the fact that they will have to care for them, they turned red and pale with anger and worry. Immediately more than a hundred thousand officials let go of their slaves out of their houses, but under the close inspection of the army, they were all caught and brought to the imperial questioning centre.

Everything was going all right but the old geezers of the council of the ministers were making quite a ruckus saying that there was no way they could do anything about the slavery that has been normalised for many years but when Ahmar told them it was the law made by the Queen, they all turned silent but he knew that their silence was only for a few days once the Queen holds the court the council will surely make their complaints known to Bree.

" I expected as much," Bree already knew that the council will be upset with her given that half of those men were appointed by that Tess bastard. She wished she could send those men packing away but she knew that it was not possible given the fact that those men had their powers spread through the entire imperial ruling council that included the entire minister body and the public opinion.

Ahmar pushed himself off the chair and then walked in front of Bree before he came to a stop in front of her, he raised his arms and then pulled Bree in his arms. He knew that she will hate it but his beast has been missing her like crazy, she has been gone for too long and he was not with her, it would be right to say that his beast was on the verge of throwing everything up and then going to find her before pulling her into his arms like he wanted to ever since she left him.

He felt her stiffen and was prepared to be pushed back but lo and behold he was surprised to see that she did not push him away at all. His eyes widened in a slightly surprised manner but before he could ask her what was going on, he felt her hand press against his chest as she looked at him with a smile on her face. " I think that this much will be enough for today?"

After she spoke she walked past him and Ahmar frowned slightly why did it look like she was giving a treat to a pet for doing all the good work and then taking it away because she knew that she has to keep her good dog in reins?

But before he could think any further his thoughts were disrupted by Bree who was sitting behind him already on the chair that belonged to her. " Is this everything that they have to say?" She asked him as she looked through the pile of papers that were sitting in front of her.

Ahmar was distracted by her question and then turned around to look at her with a polite and determined expression as he answered, " No there is more than that," he pointed to the cupboard to his left and then added, " I was only going to deal with those today as for the others." He walked towards the cupboard and pulled the doors open, no sooner did he do that the papers that were inside went sliding down and covered almost half of the floor and he wasn’t exaggerating at all, they were that bad and by the look in Bree’s eyes he could tell that she was not liking this at all, well he wasn’t either.

He was a fighter, a warrior and not a scholar. He has been dealing with this documentation work all because he was the second in line after Yakov, it wasn’t as if he did not ask Cian but the man simply curled his lips in disdain and told him ’ I am only good at seduction, what good can I do in office?’
