"If the charges are proven then under the crime of illegal trafficking and keeping shifter slaves by forcing them, the Duke and his officials will be executed and their family will lose their titles as nobles," replied Yakov, his face expressionless while his gloomy, unemotional eyes were staring at the officials who were kneeling on the floor. " You heard that?" Bree did not have any idea about what the law told her but she knew that as long as Yakov said that there was a law like that then she did not have to pick up the book that has all the laws written in it, after all this man who was behind her was a human encyclopaedia of all the books present in this world anyway.

The Duke gritted his teeth but he still replied, "It is not like what he is saying is the truth, your majesty. No evidence will proof that I have done something like that."

" There is no proof that will show me that you haven’t done anything like that either." Bree placed her hand under her chin as she calmly glanced at the Duke who was sweating buckets of cold sweat under her gaze. " The Duke says that there is no proof that will tell whether the man’s words are true or not similar, the same could be said for the Duke as well, there is nothing that you have that will prove that you did not force his sister in slavery."

" Your majesty, you cannot just believe in one-sided words," the Duke tried to calm his heart down as he looked at the Empress who was looking back at him, something about the gaze of the Empress was telling him that she seemed to have a good idea of what he was doing and what he was hiding and she was only playing with him.

" Your majesty?" The Duke was confused when he heard Bree say those words but Bree was in no hurry, she simply leaned back on her chair and then crossed her arms in front of her as she looked at the chubby man.

" The imperial law states that no shifter’s freedom is liable to the ruler of their territory, meaning that no ruler——whether Duke or Baron, they cannot subject the residents of their territory to any kind of slavery," she tapped her fingers on the armrest of her chair while continuing, " The same would be said for the interest rates, no leader can increase the taxes according to his will and desire, something that you have been doing a lot."

She tilted her head and let it rest on the back of her knuckles as she looked at the man who was looking at her with wide eyes. " What I don’t understand is that you have been asking for redemption from tax from the imperial family at the same time you have been asking for the increment of taxes that other territories have to pay for the use of ports in your territory as well, if so then there is no need for your territory residents to pay taxes to you, right? Where are you taking so much money, Duke?"

" T..how can you believe this man’s words, your majesty?" Only when Bree broke the entire matter in front of him, did he realise that something was going to go very wrong? " I am innocent, your majesty. You have seen the people of my territory they are all living rather well, this man is simply lying!"

" If I were to believe you just like that," Bree leaned forward and smirked at the duke who was fighting for his life. " Then wouldn’t the people here say that I am partial? My point still stands, if there is no evidence then I cannot trust anyone of you." She paused and then added with a smug grin. " And I have yet to talk about the wonderful alcohol that you have served, Duke. For everyone to pass out with just a sip and even start having hallucinations... I need to know what exactly was that thing."

Sh!t, the Duke thought, he realised that the Queen was no longer playing with her, she was waiting for him to make a mistake such that she will pounce on him at the very opportunity, at this moment she was eyeing him like a predator who was ready to rip its prey into pieces.
