Chapter 225: The hidden passageway

" We should get going," said Blaise as he magicked the bubble in which he captured the jewelled rabbit and turned to walk towards the entrance of the orphanage from where they have set off. Neither Bree nor Yakov said anything as they strode past the dark forest, their eyes locked on the fierce rabbit that was putting up a strong fight as he tried to get out of the magical bubble.

Blaise brought the bubble to the boulder with a piercing tip as he asked Bree to step away a little, she complied with his request. From the looks of it, she could see that Blaise was going to pop the bubble any moment allowing the beast inside to drop on the sharpened tip of the boulder, an act that was both bloody and cruel, with a lot of blood splatter. If she did not stand away from the boulder then she will be coated with blood from head to toe.

Bree already knew what Blaise was going to do, given that he was described as a crazy mad dog in the novel but watching him pop the bubble caused the beast to let out an ear-splitting roar as it descended on the sharpened tip of the boulder, refreshed her views of this man all over again. He wasn’t just crazy, he was crazily cruel as well—— her gaze shifted to the beast whose heart has been pierced by the tip of the boulder and then turned her head to look at the look of disappointment on Blaise’s face as he sighed and said, " I think I sort of made a mistake, the tip did not pierce as deeply as it should have."

Was he expecting it to drill the body of the rabbit or something?

" Third consort, we need to save the offsprings of the Phoenix, if you may open the passageway, it will be really nice," Yakov reminded Blaise who seemed to be the one in the least hurry given the tight schedule that they had.

" Oh, hush first consort. You have no idea how magic and sacrifice works do you? Let the blood of the rabbit soak the inscription hidden on the boulder properly only then it will open, after all, magic is all about patience and the correct spells and moves," said Blaise as he watched the blood trickle down the boulder, it was a gruesome sight. The corpse of the blood-stained white rabbit pierced almost in half with the blood trickling down the boulder but he was watching it with so much fascination that it made others sick. " Anytime now, the blood will be opening the passageway that we are waiting for."

Yakov rolled his eyes as he crossed his arms and waited for the magic to take place, if he finds out that the third consort has made a mistake, he will end the life of this man by piercing his stomach just like that rabbit.

"Don’t be such an impatient man," said Blaise as he looked at Yakov who was rolling his eyes at him. If it weren’t for his smile one would notice how Blaise was actually telling Yakov off for his actions earlier on, Yakov however understood what Blaise meant by those words, he narrowed his eyes ever so slightly and replied, " What can I do? I am an impatient man."

Blaise scoffed at him but did not reply as the boulder behind him shuffled and then sank inside the ground leaving a gaping hole in the forest ground making it look especially suspicious.

" Looks like we need to slide down," said Blaise as he peered down the hole that did not seem to have an end, he was hoping to push Yakov first but the first consort was smarter than him, knowing that Blaise would most likely push the responsibility of checking out on him, Yakov took advantage of when the latter was peering inside the hole wide enough to fit a man and kicked him on the back.

Bree gasped as Blaise fell inside the hole face first and then turned to look at Yakov in surprise. " What was that for? What if the third consort hurts himself."

" You do not need to worry about him, your majesty," replied Yakov with a polite smile. " He is not a man who will allow himself to get hurt, instead it should be others who need to worry about getting hurt in his hands."

" YOU DAMN MUTT!" The agonising scream of Blaise interrupted their conversation and Bree worriedly looked inside the dark and slanted passageway. " It seems he has hurt himself, that scream was quite painful to hear."

" Then aren’t you glad that I sent someone to scout the area? This way, we know that we have to be careful while sliding down this hole." Yakov curled his arm around Bree’s waist and the latter simply rolled her eyes at him. " But why do I see that you only wanted to do this?"

Yakov smiled at her as his eyes fell on her face which was slightly scrunched up. " I never do anything without a reward, your majesty." He placed one of his arms under her legs and swopped her up before peering down at her face with a smile. " No matter how small they might be."

After he finished speaking he jumped down the hole and Bree let out a silent gasp as she smelled the scents of moss, dirt, blood and rotting water as she and Yakov slid down the dark and dingy passage that led to who knew where when Bree’s eyes saw the light, she was surprised to see that she and Yakov were standing inside an underground prison.

A dark and murky stream flowed in the centre of the floor that was made with rugged cobblestones. " Where are we? Is this the underground chamber of the orphanage that the Duke has hidden?"

" Precisely," said Blaise as he wiped the grime that was sticking to his resplendent clothes and shot a look of pure venom at Yakov. " What did you push me for? At the very least you could have given me a warning!"
