Chapter 224: Entrance to the orphanage
The three of them waited for the mist to clear up, it did not take a long time, like snowdrops falling from the sky, the mist condensed into dew drops and fell on the ground, coating the grass underneath their feet with pearly dew.
Yakov glanced around, this time his vision was much clearer than before now that the mist was gone but no matter how he looked at his surroundings, nothing different could be seen. He turned to Blaise who was pocketing his compass and said contemptuously, " That was dramatic don’t you think so ?"
Blaise simply rolled his eyes before he turned his head and looked at Yakov with the same sneer that was on Yakov’s face. " Maybe you do not have the habit of using your brain, first consort. This orphanage is running an illegal business of raising Phoenix offspring for god knows what reason, you think that the Duke will build a flashy, the entrance of the orphanage lies here sign here? Of course, he will have it hidden perfectly."
Thunder crackled behind Bree as her brows twitched under the threat of an upcoming storm as she turned her head to look at Blaise and said, " So where is the entrance?"
Blaise dropped the scowl at once before he smiled at her as he pointed to the small boulder that was sitting between the two long and rugged pillars of stone. It was more or less like a crevice between a cave that was barricaded by the small boulder that was sitting in front of its entrance, they could of course think about breaking and entering it but knowing the Duke, Bree knew that it would not be that easy.
Especially, when her gaze fell on the sharp tip of the boulder.
" The boulder is the door to the orphanage’s hidden compartment," explained Blaise as he walked towards the sharp-tipped boulder and patted it carefully, his hands glowing as he skimmed his hands over the rugged surface. " And there is a spell cast on it, not a surprise of course. If we trigger the spell then this boulder will secure the entire orphanage by crushing all the entrances there are and since we do not have the time to barge through the orphanage and fight with the knights of the Duke before taking hold of the Phoenix offsprings, I will recommend that none of us triggers the spell."
" How are we going to open the door without breaking it?" asked Bree, if there was a door then there will be a key obviously but they didn’t seem to have any key and neither did they have the time to go back and search for it in the Duke’s room.
Blaise raised his head and smiled at her with a crazy glint. " That’s the fascinating thing, your majesty, this door does not need any key...it requires a sacrifice." He pointed at the tip that was covered with moss and some brownish stuff. " We have to kill something with the help of the tip of the boulder only then the door will open and let us in."
" How barbaric," muttered Yakov as he frowned at the boulder, neither of them expected that they will have to do something like this.
" That’s how it is," Blaise stated as he stood up from the ground and then motioned at Yakov causing the latter to scrunch up his brows even more as he looked at Blaise and asked, " What is the meaning of this?"
" I am asking you to take a seat," replied with a smile as innocent as an angel he pointed to the tip of the boulder and added, " As the chancellor and the first consort, you will not mind making such a small sacrifice, right?"
From Yakov’s expression, it seemed that he did mind quite a lot.
Yakov took a step close to Blaise and smiled at him with a matching mad glimmer in his eyes. " Why not you make the said sacrifice, third consort? I promise that I will surely commemorate your sacrifice."
Bree rolled her eyes as she turned around and started heading towards the forest, seeing her leave both Yakov and Blaise turned to look at her and chased after her as Blaise asked, " Where are you going, your majesty?"
" To hunt," deadpanned Bree as she strode past the thick trees and wild overgrown bushes that were grabbing hold of her clothes. " You two can continue."
How can the two of them continue? They followed after Bree who headed straight to the heart of the forest where they found a family of jewel-headed rabbits. Bree unsheathed her claws as she was prepared to kill the rabbits but before she could lunge at the rabbits, she was dragged by Blaise and Yakov.
" Why are you stopping me?" She asked as she extinguished the flames that were burning at the tips of her claws and frowned at the two of them. " Aren’t we supposed to catch them?"
" We do need to catch them but the pretext is that they stay alive," explained Blaise as he placed his hand on her lower back and calmed her down. " Your majesty, we need to make sure that those rabbits are killed by the tip of the boulder, if you roast them alive, then how will we open the boulder."
" Oh," Bree scrunched her brows in annoyance, it was just opening a simple door but there were so many terms and conditions applied to it. She pursed her lips and then took a deep breath as she let Blaise do his thing, they needed to catch prey without alerting the other monsters, that was why Blaise was extra careful. He picked up the biggest rabbit that was sleeping with an invisible hook before he wrapped it in a bubble such that it would not be able to escape once it woke up.
A good thing too, because no sooner did he lock the rabbit inside the silencing bubble, it blinked its eyes and screeched loudly before it started scratching the surface of the bubble. But Blaise was not called the master of magic for no reason after all, nor only did he make it impossible for the rabbit to escape, he even made sure that even his voice wouldn’t be able to get past it.
