Chapter 182: Uprise of black mages

" Did you find anything?" Yakov caught the sight of the man with silver hair dancing in the floating wind, walking towards him. His expression was grave and Yakov at once knew that whatever Blaise was going to tell him wasn’t going to be good.

He stood up from the bed and left the unconscious Bree alone for a few minutes as he strode to Blaise who came to a stop inside his inn’s room.

Though Yakov was stunned after being called an asshole for absolutely no reason, he was also the chancellor of the Empire. With his experience was there anything he hasn’t seen? He immediately stuffed the matter in the back of his head and then brought Bree back to the town before sending the knights to hunt for a decent-looking inn.

As for what happened today, he knew that something about the incident was weird. From the sudden attack to Bree being teleported to as far as the outskirts of the town—- none other than a mage could have done that, so-called for Blaise for an even further investigation.

His feud with the third consort didn’t matter in the eye of the current situation, if there was something wrong happening then he needed to make sure that he will be able to keep track of the situation without turning a blind eye to it just because he did not want to accept help from the Archmage of the magic tower.

" I went to the place from where Queen was kidnapped," answered Blaise looking solemn for a change. " I looked around the entire place but weirdly enough I didn’t find anything that would prove that magic was involved. Something that’s really hard to believe, a woman was magicked from the centre of the town to a faraway forest yet there were no traces of magic."

" Is that even possible?" asked Yakov sharply, he would never believe it, if anyone was to say that what happened a few hours ago did not involve magic.

" That’s the thing, it’s not possible." Blaise had searched the entire town centre looking for a piece of evidence but no matter how many times he looked, no matter how many times he tried to dig into the same spot where Bree was standing before teleporting out of nowhere he didn’t find anything. " Which only leads to one thing and that is there was black magic involved. Someone very cleverly used the black magic but then they erased their traces, I have tried to trace the leftover mana but I cannot do it, something is blocking me."

" But that doesn’t change the fact that the dark mages were behind it is it?"Yakov very swiftly threw these words and Blaise nodded with a heavy heart. " None other than the black mages can do something like this erasing the mana traces was something that Prince Leon came up with other than him and his followers, no one else knows to trace their mana energy."

" This is not a good sign." Yakov’s brows scrunched up in worry. More and more black mages were popping out, compared to the past they were no longer as afraid as they were before, even after being caught they dared to shout slogans like ’ All hail Prince Leon,’ or ’ The only king —— the mighty Prince Leon.’

It has been more than six years since Prince Leon was executed and his mother was confined in the frozen palace for dabbling in black magic but somehow their followers, who have always been hidden in the shadows were now coming out of their hideouts like wildly grown weeds, no matter how many arrests they made and no matter how many times a black mage was executed the slogan—— ’Long Live Prince Leon’ was still echoing in the Empire.

" If this keeps up then the public will panic and the tragedy of the past will be repeated again." The last time when Prince Leon and Bree fought many commoners were harmed, so when Bree raised her sword against her father, at least half of the population migrated to another country and even now they were yet to return.

After so many months only a few families returned, if the news of black mages rising reached the other countries then not only will they start aiming for their Empire, their country might even face dire financial troubles with families escaping to safety. This was not good at all.

" I know," Blaise’s expression was not good either but then he took a look at his aide and Bracken took his leave after lowering his head with his waist bowed. " There is another thing, Harley is gone."

Yakov’s head snapped as he looked at Blaise with a slight frown. " Harley?"

"That’s right," Blaise said with a nod. " I felt a disturbance on the spot where she was attacked by your aide, the fluctuations are similar to the dark magic of soul separation and sacrifice. But surprisingly, neither your aide nor the maid died, if both of them are all right then whose soul was sacrificed? There are no signs of someone dying either but the snippets of a soul being broken and torn are there. I sort of had the thought that she left because she was attacked by your aide but now I can’t help but worry that something about her sudden disappearance is weird."

He lowered his voice and then further added, " I questioned your maids and the butlers. One of the maids, what’s her name Cassidy...she said that she caught the mark of the black mage on Harley’s neck."

Yakov’s head snapped up, his eyes flickering with shock and denial. " That’s impossible, I was the one who brought her and I made sure that nothing was wrong——"

" You might be a perfect second consort but in the end, you are a living being...making mistakes is something that you ought to do." Blaise shrugged as his gaze fell on the sleeping Bree’s face. " Now you have to worry about the Queen, I don’t how she reached that old remnant of the greenhouse but I did find a shard that still had some lingering magic in it ...apparently it shows the worst fear of a person, I... I only saw a bit of it but it was enough for me to take that entire place down."

Blaise only faced half of his fear and that too for just a few minutes yet he destroyed that old greenhouse with his hands not even caring what was going to happen to the cliff on which that thing stood, he couldn’t even think about what Bree might have gone through when she couldn’t shift to get out of the place.

The place was shifter resistant and he was sure that it might have been created by Leon, himself.

Something this sadistic could only come out of the head of that man.

Yakov’s expression changed but he didn’t say anything, he simply turned to look at Bree and pursed his lips before saying, " If that maid really has a mark of the black mage then it means that she is linked to Leon. Look for her and I am sure that she will lead to you Semel and the others, don’t let her escape out of the country."

" I already gave the orders to the knights," Blaise replied as he started taking off his jacket. Seeing him suddenly take off his jacket, Yakov frowned and hurriedly caught his wrist, " What are you doing?"

" What else? I am preparing to sleep with my darling." Blaise looked at Yakov in the same way a wise man would look at an idiot. " I was the one who worked hard so long for the entire day and did not even get a chance to take a break, do you think I did it for you? I did it for darling and now that I have worked so hard, all I deserve is love and more love from my wife. So let go of my hand, I need to hug my wifey!"

Yakov didn’t let go of his hand and nor did he allow Blaise to get the most awaited reward, instead he caught hold of both of his hands and pushed him out of the room’s inn. " You are not sleeping with her majesty, now that your job is finished, you can go back to the palace and play with Ahmar and Cian, I heard you pelted their palaces with miniatures bombs ... the two of them are hopping mad about it."

Blaise turned his face to the side and then innocently blinked his eyes as he said, "No way, nuh uh, I didn’t do it. The enemy army might have sneaked inside the palace to do something like that, after all, I am so pitiful and soft, I don’t have the sinful voice of the fourth consort or the thick and sword-resistant skin of the second consort. I am just a little mage who can only do small tricks! How can I do something so scary as that?"

" Third consort has anyone told you that you are good at pretending?"

" My big brother often called me a drama queen every time he got beaten up."

For something he didn’t do, thought Yakov.
