Chapter 179: Moon child

" Do you want to take a bite as well?" The voice asked as two hands stretched from the darkness and picked up the fork and knife. Those rubies stuck to her face like they were really curious as if she was going to take a bite of the heart that was once beating inside her mother’s chest.

Estelle lowered her head breathing hard as she tried to fight off nausea climbing up her throat. Horrible, this was horrible. It was more horrible than finding out that her mother was used as a breeding machine and was thrown into the wilderness after she was done serving her sentence, it was disgusting, soul creeping and downright awful yet Estelle couldn’t do anything but watch her mother’s heart get devoured bit by bit.

For a while, nothing but the sound of silverware echoed in the hall and every time the fork or knife clanged against the plate, Estelle felt that it was her heart that was being eaten and maybe if she wasn’t careful then she too would be killed just like her mother by these monsters and eaten up like this.

The silverware clinked for one last time and the horrifying sounds finally vanished. She heard Prince Leon pick up a napkin and wipe his lips before spitting out the most gruesome words. " You all leave, I have something to say to my new pet."

Alarmed Estelle raised her head, she knew that he wouldn’t kill her. She was the only moon child whose blood was purer like that of a phoenix, she was still of use to him but when the chair screeched and the two men left her alone with the devil himself, Estelle felt her heart jump to her throat.

" You seem scared," the voice of a man but the body of a woman, it was weird enough to make anyone laugh but not when it was prince Leon. Something about him seem to suck the laughter right out of the chest of others and hope was deemed to be nothing but a flickering flame. Estelle felt the same, she stared at the girl with a silvery fleet of hair and only felt even more terrorised.

A man who came back from the dead, the dragon Queen had executed this man in front of her right in this very old execution grounds that were later on abandoned because of the blood of a dark mage being spilt on them. Estelle had watched Leon’s head roll to the ground, those red eyes rolling back in the head as dead as any other corpse but yet the same man stood in front of her defying the laws of heavens and hell altogether.

" I ...Please don’t kill me," she didn’t want to die, not for her sickly brother nor for her selfish father, she just wanted to stay alive and well until the very end. " I can be of use ... I am the only moon child you will get, our kind’s population is decreasing day by day and capturing a moon child will be difficult. They have hidden in the forest of Agoryn, the one blessed by the moon goddess, you will never be able to get to them now that you——"

" Now that I have the blood of one of their kind?" Leon finished with a smile. When Estelle nodded, he raised his hand and cupped her face, it took all of her courage not to flinch at the cold touch. " Don’t worry, I have no thoughts about killing you yet."

Yet.

The word hung in the cold air just like Leon intended it to, his eyes narrowed with pleasure when he saw the familiar streaks of fear flitted past Estelle’s face. How long, it has been such a long time—— the last time he saw this terror on the face of his victims was before when he was caught by Brianna.

As Bree’s name flashed in his head, a smile etched on his face. That woman must have thought that she won right? Conceited as she was she must have thought that his death was the end. Hmm, she will be surprised when he makes a return would she not?

Lips that were still dripping with silver blood hooked into a smile as he turned to look at the moon child in front of him. " I didn’t think that you will come in handy so soon but looks like your turn is already here."

Bree sneezed as she rubbed the tip of her nose, with the promised tornado twister in her hand she looked around. She left her other hand free and always kept her fingers aligned in line with the hilt of the sword.

" You seem nervous, your majesty," Yakov said out of nowhere, his hands were completely devoid of anything just like before he politely declined to eat anything from the stall and was now walking side by side with her with a calm face.

" I am not nervous," replied Bree but her eyes were vigilantly looking around the crowd. She didn’t know why but just now, she felt unexplainable energy floating inside her chest like it was resonating with something that was hidden in the shadows. If it was just her then she would have dumped the thought at the back of her head but this time, even Saphira was sitting upright within her as if she was preparing to lunge at the enemy upon seeing the slightest bit of sign.

" Go, your majesty." Suddenly Yakov was shielding her as he pushed her behind him and then swung his sword at the man who came out of nowhere. Eyes muddy and mouth-frothing like he was poisoned, he aimed the large sword at Yakov, who retaliated with just as much strength even though his sword was much thinner and slender.

Bree didn’t even have a chance to understand what was happening and how in the world they were suddenly attacked out of nowhere but then she stumbled onto something. Her gaze dropped to her ankle and she was surprised to find a weak vine entangling itself around her shin before she even had the chance to let out a scream, the vine plunged under the cobblestone path taking her along with it.
