Chapter 149: Its your fault that you trusted a man like me

" You should watch where you are going, Miss Harley," said Yakov perfectly polite to bones as he looked at her with a calm expression despite the annoyance he was feeling inside of him. It wasn’t that he didn’t understand why she was doing this but he was very clear to her from the beginning, he only brought her here with him because he wanted to use her to make her a dummy Empress who will listen to him and do what was good for the Empire since Bree was well disposed and not in any condition to rule the Empire, he had wanted to take over the throne for the sake of the Empire but given that he had no child with Bree, he couldn’t take charge of the duties that belonged to the Emperor of the country, in the end, he planned to seize the throne, forcefully take Bree down the throne and then make another woman who will listen to him sit on it, all because he knew that he couldn’t take the throne with his hands being tied after being named as a traitor.

The people would have refused to accept Harley but he would have worked hard in her stead given she was just a sock puppet for him.

However, now that Bree was back on the right track and there was no need for them to replace the Empress, he just couldn’t make do with Harley trying to get close to him.

Harley sensed that he was trying to put a bit of gap between them and sullenly pouted, what was this? He used to call her Harley, what was with this Miss Harley all of a sudden? Does he not know how much of a danger that she undertook for him? She even drank that awful poison-like drink to strengthen her omega pheromones!

"First consort, I was looking for you all over the place," ignoring the way Yakov tried to create some sort of distance between them, Harley smiled and fiddled with her fingers. It was all right, he can play hard to get if that’s what he wanted ...she will surely play along with him, after all, no matter how hard he tries, he was going to be hers sooner or later. "It’s a good thing that I saw you..."

" If you have something to say then you can tell it to Aileen, I believe he arrived with the emergency support?" Both Aileen and Dion were left behind in the palace since they were much more skilled in taking care of the official business compared to Ahmar and Blaise who didn’t like sitting in the same place for more than an hour or so, but after such an incident happened, Yakov had no choice but to call Aileen and ask him to bring some new carriages along with some highly skilled knights given that they didn’t want to face another situation as they did earlier on.

"It’s not about that, I want to talk about something personal with you first consort," Harley sensed that he was going to be difficult, so she licked her lips nervously and raised her head to look at him. " I wanted to talk about us—-"

" There was no ’us’," before she could finish saying what she wanted to say, Yakov hurriedly looked around and then stared at her fiercely. " I was clear about everything from the beginning, I told you that you were a replacement didn’t I? That I needed you because I had some plans regarding you but now that the Queen is all right, I don’t need you, is that something that I should have said out loud to you? You should have understood it all on your own!"

Yakov’s personality was just like this, if he was willing to use someone then he would raise them in the palm of his hands and if he had no use for them, then he would throw them away. In short, he was downright selfish, the only thing he cared about was his Empire and maybe a little bit about his mate given that she was now the sort of woman he would like to pursue.

And if he was going to pursue his mate then it meant that everyone who threatened him needed to leave including Harley.

" First consort?" If Harley said that she was shocked it would be putting the situation lightly she was shocked and stunned to the point that she couldn’t understand how someone could throw her out like she was a fly floating in milk. With her lips pursed tightly and eyes shimmering with tears she looked at Yakov and said, " How can you say such a thing, you promised that you will make me the most important woman of the Empire and as well as your life."

He has only said that because he read the ambitions in her eyes too well, he wanted to make sure that Harley wouldn’t betray him halfway and that was why he was willing to say these sweet nothings to her but now that she was of no importance to him and was, in fact, a burden, it was better for him to just cut his losses short as soon as he could.

With a slight glance at her, he curled his lips and said cruelly, " That’s right I was the one who said that I would make you the most important woman of the Empire and I am the one who is saying that the ideas that you have in mind are nothing but a pipe dream, so you might as well stop when you still have the chance to, don’t you think so?"

" You can’t do this to me," Yakov was the one who was supposed to help her throughout the climax, how can he step down like this? " You promised me!"

" Promises are meant to be broken," Yakov swiftly replied as he looked down at her. " I don’t know what’s going in that head of yours but I am a man who was even willing to break my wedding vows for the sake of this Empire and my future, do you think I will keep my promises to a little maid like you? If anything it’s your fault that you were willing to trust a man like me."
