Bree felt the entire ground shake, as Yakov hurriedly reached for her hand—— she didn’t know what he was doing but compared to her who was facing such a situation for the first time, Yakov was far more experienced to deal with situations like these, after all, he used to work as his father’s assistant for years and travelled to many dangerous places thus, he knew what to do in scenarios like these contrary to him, Bree had lived a very peaceful life, at least as peaceful as it could be for anyone with biased parents and bunch of stalkers behind them.

The country she lived in hardly faced a situation like this since earthquakes hardly happened there and that too out of nowhere, facing such a situation she was so stunned that she couldn’t even snap out of the daze, if not for Yakov, she would have stayed inside the carriage to become meat patty.

Yakov also sensed that Bree was in shock, he didn’t know whether it was because she was surprised by the sudden attack or was in shock because she knew that she wouldn’t be able to face this trouble head-on as she used to given that Saphira’s power was still a bit weak.

However, there was no time for him to ponder about why Bree didn’t react as quickly as she used, given that they only had a few seconds, Yakov wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled open the door of the carriage, as soon as he opened it ——-a puff of dust, debris and dirt like a sand storm struck his face harshly causing his vision to go hazy. Yakov coughed out loud before he looked at the front of the carriage—— the driver’s head was smashed to smithereens because of the fierce storm most probably something came flying towards him and hit him in the face.

Seeing that the carriage was tilting to a side, Yakov knew that he didn’t have much time left, he prepared himself to jump out of the moving carriage. With his legs taut and muscles tensed, he grabbed Bree’s waist with one arm while he used the other hand to protect the back of her head, this fall was going to hurt, so it was better to take certain precautions before jumping off.

He waited until the carriage reached the clearing of the forest where not many boulders were popping out of the ground and jumped off—- a good thing too because the second he jumped off the carriage something heavy and huge came down the wooden carriage and smashed the entire thing into bits and pieces.

Stunned, Yakov turned around to look at the thing behind him and what he saw almost made his eyes quiver. This thing ... this was a mountain golem but what was it doing here? It wasn’t even the season for monsters to pop out of their hibernating place, so how come it was here?

Mountain golem, a monster as tall as the biggest mountain in the Empire—— with its stony and strong build, the entire thing looked no different than a moving mountain, round boulders the size of a small moon made its entire being, moss and trees seemed to be popping out of its stony build here and there. Its ferocious yellow eyes surveyed the entire area and Yakov hurriedly pulled Bree behind a tree, the mountain golem was very sensitive to sounds even human breathing normally was a nuisance to it. For the sake of not getting under the scrutiny of this merciless beast, Yakov hurriedly covered Bree’s mouth and nose and even held his breath—— Bree who was shocked by the things that were happening in front of her was almost panting after receiving such a scare but before she could even take another long breath to calm herself down, Yakov covered her mouth and nose, completely blocking her air passage.

Bree: "...." What was this man even doing? Was he trying to take advantage of the chaos and strangle her to death here and now? But if he wanted to watch her die then he would have left her alone in the carriage to be pummelled to her death just like the driver, so if he was protecting her then it meant only one thing.... That monster had very sensitive hearing.

Despite feeling uncomfortable, Bree too held her breath and stared at the monster through the thickets of the forest, the entire thing was huge, not as huge as Saphira but still, it was big enough to give her dragon a tough fight. Maybe Saphira understood what she was thinking, thus she immediately curled her upper lip and let out an annoyed huff as if trying to say —— ’ tough fight? Heh, you sure know how to joke.’

The monster looked left and right before stopping to look at the tree behind which Yakov and Bree were hiding, Bree felt her heart jump to her throat as she looked at the mountain-like thing.

" We have to move," murmured Yakov and no sooner did he say those words than the mountain-like beast reached for the top of the tree and pulled it swiftly, Yakov on the other hand caught Bree’s wrist and dragged her inside the forest, as long as they were hiding behind the thickets, there was a possibility that the mountain beast wouldn’t be able to catch them.

Yakov has seen his fair share of mountain golems but had never seen one in this season, mountain golems hated summer because of their rocky structure. Because of the heat, their bodies often got scalding hot causing them to be in an irritable mood that was why the mountain golem usually went to hibernation in such hot summers.

But something or someone must have disturbed that mountain golem’s rest and now he was not in a very jolly mood to leave anyone alive.

Harley stared at the big mountain golem that was chasing Yakov and Bree, her eyes shone with a smile as she stared at the pale face of the Dragon Queen. Her system has told her that Bree’s beast was sick at the moment, because of all the drugs and alcohol that she did in the past few months, her dragon was nowhere as strong as before thus throwing such a big monster in front of her would surely alarm her and it did!

Look at that horror-struck expression it was as if she was going to faint any second! Hah! This was really fantastic to watch, at least now everyone will know how much of an incompetent Queen that woman was, humph always talking about how the dragon queen was the greatest, now see the greatest Dragon Queen was running away like a bitch with her tail tucked between her legs! Haha!

" Miss Harley would you mind hiding behind the tree stump?" said Darren as he looked at the maid who was staring at the scene in front of her as if she was enjoying it. Darren has been working with Ahmar for a long time and he knew how to decipher the expression of others no matter how great they were in hiding their true self.

He stared at Harley before turning to look at the other maids, all of them wore a mask of terror and fright, Harley alone was looking at the mountain golem with her eyes shining as if the golem was the key to something precious. His eyes flashed but he still looked at Harley politely, since this maid was under the care of the first consort, he couldn’t make unfounded claims about her but once he returns to the palace, he will have a good chat with general Ahmar.

Harley didn’t know that she was almost caught by a knight, she was too busy staring at the mountain golem that was chasing after the Dragon Queen ...just a bit more and that bitch will be squashed to death! To Harley, Bree was not a human being that could feel pain and cry, to her she was nothing but a paper woman whose sole reason for existence was to act as her stepping stone until the day she becomes the dragon queen.

Thus, she had no qualms about watching Bree die, after all, she was just a character in the book but she? She was different. This whole world centred around and that was how things should be given that she was the leading lady.

Bree didn’t know that there was someone who was hoping that she will die under the feet of the golem, she was too busy running away from the huge feet that seemed to be intentional about squashing her to a pulp.

" Your majesty, you need to run," said Yakov as he pulled her in front of him. " I as the chancellor have to protect you, so run."

" No, what are you talking about?" Though Bree didn’t like Yakov nor did she have any romantic feelings for him but she couldn’t let the man put himself for her could she? " We are going to run away from this together."

Yakov however smiled and said, " I am glad that you think that way, your majesty... to me these caring words are enough. Even if I were to die protecting you now, I will die with a smile."

Then without giving Bree a chance to stop him, he pushed her behind a big tree and dashed in the opposite direction as noisily as he could.
