Chapter 105: Trouble in Bellion
" You want me to do what?" Cian was sure that he heard Cordelia wrong there was no way she was going to ask him to do something like that, he has walked out of that life and there was no going back, this was what he understood and surely she did as well.
" I want you to look for a dark wizard, by the name Jasper.." she repeated herself this time much clearer than before as if afraid that he didn’t hear her clearly the first time. " I know it’s too much of me to ask you that but I have no other choice, if I did I wouldn’t have asked you to do something as dangerous as this."
" But why? I mean why are you asking me to do such a thing all of sudden?" asked Cian, he couldn’t possibly understand why his grandmother would want him to chase a dark mage down for no reason, it must be something important or else she wouldn’t have chosen to let him know about this Jasper guy.
Lifting her teacup from the table with her pinky jutting out, Cordelia took a sip. "it’s because of your stupid brother who cannot sense the danger that’s coming to his territory, he believes he can fight it off but I am worried that he is trying to bite more than he can chew. I have to say that after he grew up I thought he has turned smarter but looks like your brother is going backwards in terms of development instead of going forward like everyone else."
" I do agree with you grandma, there was this one time where he thought nicking my carotid artery was fun, I proved it to him that it wasn’t." Cian still kept the scar on his throat to remind his brother about what happens when they try to push him a bit too much to the edge. " But what did he do this time that even you have to regret his stupidity?"
Cordelia sighed, her head turning towards the large pond that filled the entire space of the building, her face shining with the reflection of the water. " Things are not looking good, my boy. Dark powers, the ones that should have been suppressed are returning... and they are doing their uttermost to shake the foundation of our kind. I have heard about the kidnapping of ten merfolks and a couple of sirens from my daughters who reside in the Bellion Empire."
" What?" Cian double blinked when he was attacked last night, he thought that it was because he was recognised as the consort of the dragon Queen, but never did he think that it was because his kind was being targeted. " Sirens and Merfolks are being kidnapped? But why? We..."
" Do not forget just how precious the blood of a Siren and the tears of a Mermaid are," said Cordelia as she set her cup down on the table and sternly looked at him. " I do believe that the dark forces will have a lot of ’use’ for these rare creatures," her eyes dimmed slightly. " The killing of my children, I do have to admit that I do not wish to see it but there is not much I can do about it either. I am bounded to the heir of the throne unless she permits me I cannot take this matter in my hand."
He could sense that his grandmother was beyond furious but she was controlling her anger for the sake of the Bellion Empire. His father once told him that when his grandmother was enraged the last time, she almost destroyed a coast that was the closest to the Bellion Empire and they had to pay hefty compensation for all the lives that were put in danger.
" I do wish that your brother would have listened to me but he didn’t," she continued as she picked up a biscuit and had a bite of it. Sugar apparently calms her down quickly, " I called him yesterday, telling him to go and take help from the Dragon Queen, she would have surely taken this kind of threat seriously but your brother refused, despite knowing the dangers that are involved in this situation, he believes he can handle it better than the Dragon Queen."
" He didn’t agree? But why isn’t submitting a request for the Royal army to interfere in this matter the correct course of action?" Cian pointed out.
" Of course, it is," said Cordelia darkly. "It’s the finest strategy one can come up with but your brother does not agree, he believes that he can deal with this matter on his own."
" But that’s stupid," Cian couldn’t believe that Orman was actually thinking about suppressing this matter from the Dragon Queen. Even if he could hide it, for now, he wouldn’t be able to do it for long, and hiding any information about a dark mage can seriously pit their entire country against the Dragniere empire. What was his brother even thinking? " he can’t hide something so serious from the Queen she will catch him sooner or later, with the Royal army making rounds around the city, this matter will catch fire no matter how much he tries to suppress it."
" I know but you do know about the fatal flaw of your brother right?" asked Cordelia as she looked at him over the rim of her teacup.
Cian sucked in a breath and nodded. " I do, he is too prideful for his own good."
As a siren not only can he charm someone to the point that they go crazy but could also see their fatal flaw but he hardly used it because using his powers to detect someone’s fatal flaws sucked his powers like a sponge sucking up water.
" That’s right, your foolish brother believes that he is better than the Dragon Queen and does not need her help but the truth is, he is in desperate need of help and no matter what he says, the fact remains..." with a rumble she banged the teacup on the table, the water in the pond sloshed and frothed, almost making a whirlpool. " He cannot take care of this matter alone."
