Chapter 94: Dinner With The Devil?

"He’s the devil’s son." Damien announced, his neutral expression was indifferent to Rama’s puzzled, angry and disbelieving one.

She had harboured doubts in the past that he could be the devil’s son, she had been sure of it, but now that the truth was being revealed, it hit different. She was in disbelief, but she was also weirdly intrigued.

While the night creatures merely adopted the darkness, the devil was in a different level of being a paranormal entity, the creator of darkness itself. It explained Draco’s differing essence that always left her questioning her instincts on what he really was.

"You made me seem like I was crazy all along. You lied to me, what was the point actually?" Rama snapped at him.

"It’s safer if you hadn’t known, it’s complicated enough already, demons don’t like to mate with humans, it weakens the demon’s bloodline." He said with a grave look, his crimson eyes hard and serious, a side of him she was barely familiar with, which made it seem like she was conversing with a different person.

"It still doesn’t make sense that you would hide about being a demon to avoid complications." Rama said.

"Not everyone can handle the news, moreover, it leads to unwanted attention and chaos." Damien said.

As if something clicked, her eyes dilated in shock. "Wait! Did the demons have something to do with the seers death? Did they kill them?" Rama queried.

"Yes, but we can’t discuss that now." Damien said sternly.

"Why not now?" She pressed on with angry eyes.

"Not. Now." He said firmly, making her drop it as it was obvious he wasn’t ready to spill.

"Should I be worried that something might happen?" She shot at him with a straight face, eyes pleading for the truth.

She reasoned her life could be at danger if the demons were against humans mating with them and the fact they murdered the seers which was evidence they did to hide something from the knowledge of the world or specifically them, made her even more unnerved as she realised her fate with demons were already crossed.

She didn’t want to be trapped in a worse fate than being Draco’s prisoners where demons would haunt her for the rest of her life, or on a second more logical thought, they could just snap her neck and their problem would cease to exist.

"No, of course not. They won’t hurt you..." He trailed off as if the words had come out wrong. Her brows creased even tighter.

When she thought things would finally go well with Draco out of her life, excluding her dreams, life was throwing more crucial problems into her lap. How great!

She was already in a brewing war with her heart to accept her Damien, but soon she would be in a hectic war for her life.

"You don’t seem convinced by your own words, how can I feel assured that I’d be safe when you’re not? If my life is being at risk because of a forbidden union, why still go ahead with this wedding?" She queried stiffly.

"You’ll get mild threats from my mother, but your life is not at risk in anyway, she wouldn’t dare lay a finger on you, no one would." He said firmly.

"Mild threats?" She scoffed in disbelief.

"I’ll make sure you get none, I meant to say she could be very persuasive." He corrected while Rama eyed him with a skeptical look.

Rama sighed deeply, contemplating on his words, but still she felt unnerved. The flicker of hope being ignited earlier was threatening to snuff out by this heavy wind of doubt. She couldn’t help but feel like a worse fate awaited her.

"Are we having dinner with your family in the castle?" Rama queried.

"Yes."

"And the..?" She trailed off, saying the devil’s name felt like a hassle to her now, knowing he was Draco’s father and the fact that she might undoubtedly cross paths with him in this obscure fate of hers, made her even more agitated.

"I’m not sure he’ll be there, he only makes his presence known when it’s important, apparently his nephew’s wedding isn’t." Damien said, trying to clear the intense, suffocating air with a light chuckle. She sighed in relief, so now she had to face just his parents.

"You’re his nephew?" She queried, stunned by the revelations hitting her all in one blow, while she barely processed them.

"My father is one of the seven demons of hell, an ancient demon, so most probably." He said with shrugged shoulders, leaving Rama to wonder.

"Oh, why are you all here and not in hell?" She blurted out in curiosity. Her blatant question made him release a throaty laughter.

"Our mothers were vampires, so we were brought up here, although sometimes we visited, but there’s a lot of discrimination and rejection when you’re not a pure blooded demon, so what’s the point of going to a place where you’re not welcome?" He said with a deep sigh, but there was no fathomable sign of hurt in his eyes.

Silence hung in the air for a minute or two.

"Which of the seven demons is your father?" She queried in curiosity, they were tales of the seven demons of hell, each depicting the greatest sins of the world, she was curious on which one his father depicted, which he would also naturally portray.

"He’s Leviathan, the demon of envy." Damien stated and she nodded thoughtfully.

She would never have guessed envy, as Damien didn’t seem to have an envious personality, or so she thought.

"He murdered my sister, because his jealousy engulfed his entire being and I swore to never be like him. I won’t be forced to be a replica of him." He suddenly said, leaving Rama shocked by the news.

She opened her mouth to say something, but then she closed it, not wanting to leave it hanging open like a dimwit. She couldn’t help but wonder why his father murdered his sister, but at the same time she didn’t want to ask, it was best to keep his ugly pasts buried rather than dig it out.

"He desired my mother and took her forcefully while she had already marked her human lover, eventually she had an affair with him and gave birth to my sister. We kept her existence hidden while she grew up with us, until he found out about her." amA dragged sigh left his lips as he explained with a straight face, but Rama merely nodded in silence.

The story was quite tragic but oddly, her interest was more piqued about Draco’s secrets and his hell he was trapped in.

"And he’s coming to the dinner." Rama scoffed with rolling eyes in displeasure. Such audacity for his father to show his face after murdering their little sister. But when she reasoned, it was embedded in his nature to be envious, which would ultimately lead him to make damned choices, choices that were influenced and manipulated by his envy.

She could understand why he wasn’t bothered about his father showing up. They weren’t humans neither did demons harbour human feelings, they were born of the darkness, so she wasn’t surprised.

"Rama." He called as he took her hand in his, squeezing gently while staring into her eyes.

"It doesn’t matter if we’re demons or not, don’t cower or feel intimidated by their presence, they can’t harm you and also, demons are very prideful beings, they prey on the weak and feed on their fears, I know you’re none of that. Show them your boldness and fierce spirit, let them feel even a whiff of intimidation from you." Damien said thoughtfully and she nodded with a smile, grateful for his kind words.

’Easy for him to say, he has nothing to worry about’ she thought inwardly.

"Is there anything else you want to know?" Damien queried, ready to share the knowledge of his existence and lineage with her.

"No more lies?" She said with one raised brow.

"No more lies." He said with a smile, even though he had lied about Draco letting her go. Things would get complicated if she found out, except it all went well and he successfully marked her, but if not, things would undoubtedly go awry.

"Right, what about Draco?" She queried, anticipation hanging on every breath she took as she waited for him to speak.

"What about Draco?" He repeated, slightly confused and disturbed that she was referring to the deal, but how would she know? Maybe, she was still in doubt about him giving her her freedom so easily.

"What about his story, his tragic story that everyone is so hushed about. What happened to him?" Rama queried and she felt the air suddenly darken around her.

"You shouldn’t ask that, it’s not for me to tell you. In all honesty, it’s best if you know nothing and also don’t forget that you can’t ask him either about it or I can’t promise to keep you safe from him ripping your heart out." Damien warned with a hard look as he maintained his unwavering gaze with hers and she subconsciously gulped.
