The Devil's Warrior Queen
Chapter 69: Merciful?

Chapter 69: Merciful?

It felt as if he wore a mask of darkness as his face darkened, his facial features were stolen into the form of darkness only his glowing red eyes were visible, but it lasted for only a second before his face softened.

"Don’t ask such questions and definitely don’t ask Draco questions. I know you want to die, but you won’t be able to endure the torture." He warned with a dark, low voice floating beneath his breath with the wind.

She pressed her lips tightly together in silence, not saying anymore. She was curious to know more, but it was clear she had crossed the limit and in the process, she got a torture warning, a warning she would heed to, but her intrusive thought suddenly kicked in ’or maybe not.’.

"Is there a worse torture than this?" She spoke in a low mutter beneath her breath.

She could feel the bitter bile stuck in her throat, the same bitterness that coated her tongue when she lost her Empire and everything she held dear to her, he took it all and plunged her into infinite despair.

She wanted to cry and scream at the top of her lungs, she wanted to release at least even if it was a fragment of the heartache.

The place had never been right, she could scream at the tower and no one would hear her inside the castle, but she swallowed back the tears stinging her jade eyes, because she would feel pathetically fragile and weak if she cried in front of Damien.

"He’s been merciful, remember that." Damien’s voice echoed in her ears and she scoffed loudly in utter disbelief at his remark.

"Merciful? What’s merciful about taking everything away from me? He made my Empire crumble to nothing but dust, killed my people and took captives for blood bags, my mother’s dead, killed my..." She growled beneath gritted teeth as her eyes burned in rage, but she trailed off at the point of calling Roshan her lover.

He wasn’t her lover, he was never hers to begin with.

She veered around mechanically, making her hair sway behind her, it would have slapped him in the face if he was an inch closer.

She made her back face him as she looked straight ahead into the sky, she didn’t want him to see her cry. She would be mortified to death if he saw just one drop of tear fall on her cheek.

"Don’t try to jump, I’ll catch you anyway." She heard Damien say before she heard the clinking of his boot against the floor until it gradually faded.

She was aware he had left, since she could no longer feel his presence, but she knew that he only left because she wanted to cry.

She let out a deep shaky breath as the tears flowed freely on her cheeks, her sobs came out soft and low, but as time fleeted it intensified, with big droplets of tears erupting from her eyes.

She cried loudly, yelled at the top of her lungs, with heavy misery and anguish coating it. She cried to the peak of her satisfaction until there were no tears left to cry anymore.

She sniffed dryly as she wiped the tears from her face with the back of her sleeves, she was already having a head banging ache from all the crying and yelling.

She took in a deep breath and let it out, composing herself before she veered around as she proceeded to leave.

Her eyes widened with a yelp leaving her lips when she caught sight of Damien, standing at the opposite edge of the tower where thick darkness resided.

Her shocked expression abruptly turned into a frown as she shot him a subtle glare.

"What are you doing here?" She snapped between gritted teeth.

There was no charming smile on his face, it was rather blank as he moved out of the darkness that was almost clouding his form.

"You don’t have to be ashamed of crying, it’s a human emotion, a way to express yourself, so why do you feel repulsed when you cry?" He queried rhetorically in a solemn tone.

Her brows furrowed deeply.

"I’d rather cry alone than have a creepy vampire watching me cry." She snapped, but she immediately bit down her bottom lip, as she remembered he was still a vampire lord despite his charms and gentle personality.

"I didn’t mean to be creepy, but if you jumped off the tower and fell to your death, I’d be to blame and then Draco would cut off my arms for my incompetency." He explained with a stern countenance.

It was a logical reason and she felt embarrassed that he had to watch her cry because it was his responsibility, she knew just how annoying it was to watch someone cry and the fact that he had to do it because he was coerced by his obligations made her face redden in mortification, but what could be more annoying than moaning so shamelessly to your enemy.

She shut her mind out before he could listen, maybe he did, maybe he didn’t but he didn’t say a word concerning it which made her sigh inwardly.

"It’s usually annoying when someone cries, but oddly I didn’t feel annoyed when you cried." He stated out blatantly.

"O....kay." She said awkwardly.

"Even vampires cry." He confessed with shrugged shoulders.

"That’s not true, is it?" She queried in slight confusion and a mixture of disbelief.

She would never have believed vampires cried and even though Damien was nothing close to a human if depicted by his aura and physical features, she found him to be a bit closer to humane feelings.

"It is, our emotions are stronger than humans, although we don’t easily cry, but you’re sure to see a vampire cry if they lose their mate." Damien explained patiently and her brows lifted.

"Through the bond bite? Or a fellow vampire mate?" She queried in a slight haze of confusion.

"It’s actually a circumstantial difficult thing to explain. Humans become a vampire’s mate through the bond bite to turn them, but if it’s a vampire, they don’t need to be turned, but they can still have the bond bite which marks them as mates for eternity." Damien explained and it took her a long moment before she could properly process it into her head.

She nodded when she finally got it.

"So you only turn a human who’s willing to be your mate and a vampire?" She asked in a slightly unsure tone of what she was asking.

"Yes, but vampires are very picky, they only mark the person they’re truly in love with, which of course is hard to decide especially when a lot of humans want to bond with us for power and not truly love." Damien said thoughtfully as he ran his fingers through his hair with a sigh of exasperation.

It was soothing to know they didn’t recklessly turn humans into vampires, which had made her slightly wary earlier, thinking they would devise a plan to turn every human on earth to vampires, but it didn’t seem like the case, so she could breathe in peace for a while.

"Ahh, I see." She exclaimed softly.

She wondered if truly they felt love, but according to Damien they did and it was supposedly to last for an eternity, an unbreakable bond.

It seemed romantic and dark at the same time, because if the mate died, they would be in eternal torment for the rest of their days, but still it was stronger than a humans love, which was fragile and could easily fade away within a period of years, everything about humans was fragile.

"I should go to bed now. It’s quite late." She said in a dainty tone as she moved past him to exit the tower.

"Draco may be your enemy, but he’s dangerously desirable." Damien’s voice echoed in her ears as she was about to leave, making her halt abruptly in her footsteps as she tried to decipher the underlying meaning beneath his words.

"What do you mean?" She queried with a naive look on her face.

"You were mortified for moaning, you shouldn’t be. Vampires are dark, lustful creatures with an irresistible compelling charm." Damien stated in a neutral tone and her eyes widened like saucers when the words rolled off his lips.

"It was a vulnerable and disgustingly embarrassing moment and you should stop reading my mind!" She snapped as that one string of her sanity broke.

She was mortified beyond words, she wanted to crawl up and hide, or preferably the ground would open up and swallow her, or maybe fade away into thin air.

There was no judging look in his glowing red eyes, only genuineness reflected in them.

"There’s no need for shame. I know how much you despise him." He said in a neutral tone, his intimidating gaze fixed on her made her avert hers abruptly.

"Good night." She spluttered and dashed out of the tower, as she clambered down the stairs with scurrying footsteps.

She couldn’t bear to be with him in the same space, it was as suffocating as it was embarrassing she almost choked on her own breath.
