Chapter 54: Hunting In The Forest II
Heavy, intensifying silence weighed in the carriage as it proceeded into the forest and then it abruptly halted in its movement. The vampire brothers clambered out of the carriage and the girls followed after them.
The forest as usual retained an eerie sense of melancholy that seemed to encompass it like a cloak. The broad canopy of leaves staved off the sunlight from enacting its golden rays on the forest grounds, earning it a gloomy ambiance from the dim lighting.
The girls watched as the vampire brothers took out their hunting weapons comprising of hunting guns and they poured gun powders into the powder hole as they got ready for their hunt.
The girls followed behind the vampire brothers as they proceeded into the forest, delving deeper into the darker parts of the forest where less light penetrated through. They had inhumane vision, so they didn’t mind hunting in the dark.
Zamiel halted and gradually lifted his gun to his eyesight level, hands inclined as his fingers rested lazily on the trigger while his eyes peered through the eye hole as he aimed for an unknown animal the girls couldn’t catch sight of.
But before Zamiel could pull the trigger for whatever animal he had caught sight of, a distant gunshot resounded in the forest and a bullet whizzed past them toward the direction Zamiel had been aiming for, which portrayed that someone had taken the shot, but it couldn’t be Damien as he was right beside them and his gun wasn’t even aimed for a shot yet.
They all veered around to catch a glimpse of who had taken the shot and their eyes narrowed to Draco’s figure approaching them with a gun in his hold as he swung it effortlessly even though it weighed a ton.
His shoulders moved elegantly as he strode toward their direction in a daunting yet grandiose manner.
She almost scoffed at his enormous ego oozing from every pore of his skin, mixing itself with the darkness coveting his entire being.
"Hunting without me?" Draco’s usual sarcastic tone filled their ears.
Rama was a bit surprised and at the same time not so surprised in seeing him there. He didn’t seem to hold the displeasure he retained in the morning and she wondered where he had suddenly been to.
Both she and Malika curtsied.
His gaze fell on Rama for only a split second before it averted to drop on both the vampire brothers.
"You took my shot." Zamiel said in a stiff tone before walking away from him as he approached whatever animal Draco had shot.
"What are they doing here?" Draco queried as his gaze fell on both girls but his gaze lingered on Rama longer before he averted it.
Damien gave him a sheepish grin and Draco moved past him, not caring for his reply aware it would be an illogical one. They all arrived at the far distance where the animal which had been shot lay dead and it was precisely a perfect head shot.
It was a gazelle.
Rama frowned slightly when they moved past it, not displaying any motive of retrieving their hunt but instead abandoned it as it was useless to them. High ranking vampires didn’t care to drink animal blood when they could easily acquire a human’s, so animal blood were as good as useless, they only hunted for the dark pleasure they gained from it.
Zamiel lifted his gun again, aiming for an animal that was imperceptible to the human sight and this time, Draco took the shot with swift movements that were uncalculated unlike Zamiel, but still again it was a headshot.
Zamiel’s eyes narrowed at Draco, but there was no hint of anger in his empty eyes.
"Rama, do you know how to shoot?" Damien queried as he caught her staring at the gun once or twice. She had grown accustomed to wielding a gun in the past and she was quite skilled with it too.
She was a bit taken by surprise by the question while they all waited for her reply, excluding Zamiel who ignored them all as if he was living in his own world, giving everyone the cold shoulder as he searched for another animal to hunt.
"Yes." She replied in a clipped tone and Damien had an impressed smile on his face.
Damien extended his gun toward her.
"Go ahead and shoot." Damien suggested and even without seeing Draco, she could sense his unwavering gaze fixated on her.
She abruptly grasped the gun from Damien’s hold with firm movements.
She lifted the gun with inclined hands as she peered her eyes through the eyehole and aimed straight for Draco’s heart. Her fingers rested on the trigger, ready to pull.
Malika’s face turned pale with horror as she watched Rama showcase her madness in front of the king, but neither of the vampires reacted at the sudden change if event.
Zamiel had moved a few meters away from them, although he didn’t react even though he was fully aware of what was transpiring behind him, while Damien watched the display with an amused smile as if he was enjoying a theatre play.
"Rama!" Malika called in a petrified state. Palms sweating in fear at her friend’s fate of what Draco would do to her.
Draco didn’t move an inch from his position neither did he flinch as she aimed the gun at him, instead there was a devilish grin slowly pulling the edges of his lips up in a daunting manner, but still Rama didn’t lower the gun down even if his devilish grin made her skin crawl.
"I’ve always wondered what it would feel like plunging a dagger into your heart, but I guess a bullet is just as good." Rama said with a smirk tearing through her lips.
"Go ahead then."
Draco’s voice was low as he drawled, dangerously low and deep as he spoke, giving her the go ahead. She knew he could easily evade the bullet if she were to ever pull the trigger and even if he didn’t, a bullet wouldn’t kill him even though it possessed a more lethal effect than a sword wound.
But still, she wanted to spill his blood, she wanted to see the crimson blood oozing out of his body so badly and she wanted to see him grimace in pain even if it was just for a split second.
She scoffed darkly before pulling the trigger.
The gunshot resounded in the forest and Malika yelped as she closed her eyes shut in fear, but gradually opened them.
Rama pulled the trigger, but not before she tilted the gun sideways. The bullet whizzed past Draco and it hit a fox just behind the shrubs of bushes.
"Why are you all staring at me like that?" Rama queried innocently as she looked at Malika whose heart felt like it was about to pump out of her ribcage as her face had suddenly turned pale.
Damien chuckled softly as he took the gun from her.
"That was a nice shot." Damien complimented, an unfathomable glint sparked in his red irises.
"Thank you lord Damien." Rama said in the most dainty tone she could invoke from her windpipe.
Her eyes met Draco’s as he stared at her, but there was no hint of any emotion whatsoever on his face, not the sarcastic smirk or the devilish grin, it was totally blank and she couldn’t read him, not even in the slightest whatever was going through his devious mind.
She knew better than to cross the line, shooting him meant an even worse punishment for Malika and she wouldn’t dare make that bloody mistake, not for the second time, even as much as she yearned to spill his blood and drench her hands in it.
"Zamiel’s ran off to hunt on his own." Damien grumbled.
They hadn’t even noticed Zamiel’s absence until then since he was so immersed in his hunting.
Damien and Draco started moving towards the direction of where Zamiel wasas they followed his scent while the girls followed behind.
"Don’t ever scare me like that." Malika scolded, but instead of her being scary she was rather cute as her petite figure looked up to Rama.
"I didn’t do anything now, did I?" Rama asked rhetorically and Malika shot her a subtle skeptical look with one raised brow.
Zamiel suddenly appeared out of the blue in front of them, his stoic expression was retained on his face but the black shrivelled flower in his hand made it visible that something was wrong. After a few seconds, the flower turned into dust and it evaporated into thin air.
"Will you all just stand there?" Zamiel asked sarcastically and without waiting for their reply, he veered around and started moving towards the direction he emerged from and they all followed.
They walked along the forest for a few minutes before halting at the mouth of a cave. Darkness sufficed every nook and cranny of the cave’s innards.
The cave emitted a putrid smell of rotting corpses from within it and the girls backed away, unable to breath as the foul smell choked them, meanwhile the vampires didn’t react in the slightest as they peered their gazes into the dark cave.
"Don’t you want to know what’s within?" Zamiel drawled and for the first time, she saw his red eyes glint visibly with the darkness that had laid concealed beneath his composure.
