Chapter 46: Death Evades Me Like A Plague II
She pushed aside the wet hair stuck to her face with water dripping from the tip of her drenched hair. His red eyes retained a mixture of calmness and poise but like Zamiel’s, there was a brewing storm laying beneath it, although his personality differed from Zamiel’s blank and enigmatic one.
He seemed like a reposed gentleman, but she couldn’t help but be in wary of the mischievous glint flashing across his red eyes.
"I can’t go back." He voice came out in a cracked whisper as her face lowered to the floor. She felt tears stinging the back of her eyes but she forced them back, preventing a single tear from dropping. She was at the verge of evading Draco and the nightmare he caused her, but it seemed as if there was no escaping for her.
He had turned her entire world of comfort and solace to a world of darkness pervading it, encompassed with endless guilt and pain, but it mostly revolved around hatred now.
"You don’t have a choice." He repeated again in a rather soft tone and she gritted her teeth hard. She hated not having a choice and she hated not having the power to make one which made her feel helpless and vulnerable, she hated it all.
The feeling of helplessness and weakness gnawed at her guts ferociously and she felt nauseous with rage overpowering her, rage that she couldn’t help her people and now, she couldn’t help herself.
She felt his strong grip on her arm as he stood up on his feet and he pulled her up along with him, the gold knuckle rings adorning his slender fingers scraped against her skin but she stifled the wince that almost escaped, but not the perciptible glare she shot him.
Her legs wobbled from the cold and her drenched gown felt too heavy for her weight to carry, she almost lost her balance but he swiftly steadied her movement with both hands holding her in position.
She had never felt so exhausted and drained in her life after her failed suicide attempt, she didn’t want to think anymore and instead, she just wanted to lay down and close her eyes, for an eternity preferably but she couldn’t.
"You should have left me to die. He wouldn’t have cared." Rama muttered beneath her breath in a grumbling manner. Damien tilted his head to the side as he watched the strange human in front of him, voluntarily embracing death.
No matter how distressing one’s dilemma was, he had never encountered any one, humans or supernatural beings who would willingly embrace death, rather they would fight more to live out of desperation.
"He said if I didn’t bring you back alive, he’d chop my arm off, so even if you died, I’d find a way to bring you back to life." Damien said with a rather calm demeanor and a short chuckle which made her feel weirdly at ease, but mostly weird.
Even though he was a night creature, he had a slightly less threatening atmosphere hovering around him and his aura felt light in comparison to Draco’s. Was he a good vampire? She pondered, but then she shook her head inwardly. There was no such thing as a good vampire, they were all monsters wearing a mask, she strongly concluded inwardly.
He had probably killed countless of innocents, so what made him so different from Draco just because he portrayed the qualities and personality of a gentleman? They were all blood sucking monsters and no amount of gentleman facade would hide the atrocities they committed.
His deep throaty chuckle broke her out of her trance and her brows creased, wondering what he found so funny.
"You seem to despise our kind." He stated in a calm tone and her eyes slightly widened aware of the fact that he had read her mind and she cussed inwardly, but she quickly regained her composure as she rudely shook his hold off her. Her movements wouldn’t have done much to loosen his hold on her, but he let go willingly.
"Your kind despises our kind too and not to forget your kind destroys our Empires and slaughters our kind like animals, why on earth wouldn’t I feel hatred? It’s the only thing worth feeling at this moment." Rama snapped with a sharp tone as she ignored the piercing cold and her trembling hands clutched her skirt tightly.
"I don’t despise your kind and I understand why you feel resentment toward ours, it’s only natural to feel that way, after all your kind is our only source of food and the king causes your kind pain." Damien remarked and her brows knitted tightly in confusion as she stared at the strange vampire.
"You expect me to believe that you mean no harm to my kind?" Rama queried in a slightly uncertain tone as she narrowed her jade eyes at him.
"Although I don’t resent your kind, I’d be lying if I said no after all I feed from them and I have killed them." Damien said in a nonchalant tone as he peered his eyes lazily at her, making him look a tad like Draco but his beauty and darkness couldn’t be compared still. It felt as if Draco was born from an irresistible beautiful darkness itself.
A disbelieving chuckle rolled freely from her lips with white puffs of smoke emanating from it.
"Right, you don’t despise us." Rama muttered in a tone of disbelief. He leaned his face closer to hers and she saw a familiar glint in his red eyes.
"I can protect you and make your life easier, if you choose to become my mistress. You are a ravishing woman who captures the attention of a night creature. I assure you, you’ll earn a lot of favors from me and.." His sentence was abruptly ended quickly when a heavy slap flew across his cheek, but his face didn’t move an inch from its position, neither did he flinch.
His gaze was still locked on hers which made her heart drop in dread and the air felt chillier, making goosebumps materialize on her skin when a devilish grin spread across his lips, revealing his perfect white teeth with elongated canines.
He stood up straight with abrupt movements which made her flinch backward in assumption that he would hit her or worse, but nothing happened, making her heart pace elevate in every terrifying second in dread.
"It’s funny. I’ve never been rejected by any woman." She heard him say as he smacked his lips, but she kept silent.
"I’m a powerful handsome lord and I would have protected you and made your life easier, but its your loss after all. You’ll be more vulnerable when you have no one to serve and then you’ll come running to me, I’ll be waiting until then." He bragged with a high ego as he shrugged his shoulders with pride and a grimace appeared on Rama’s face.
True he was gorgeous to an unreal level and he retained a powerful status beyond her imagination both in wealth and strength, but the thought of being his or any night creature’s concubine made her want to retch up in disgust.
Her nose flared in anger and her jade eyes burned with a scorching flame, but still she forced out a delicate tone as she didn’t want to anger him more after the slap which he nonchalantly shoved aside.
"I apologise for the slap, but I’ll have to decline your offer and I assure you I won’t come running to you as your concubine. The day I shall think of doing it, I shall slit my own throat." Rama spouted out with a firm tone with gritting teeth and an amused grin tore through his lips as he tucked a stray lock of dark hair behind his ear.
"Apology accepted." He said in a neutral tone before grabbing her arm again as he proceeded to move toward the horse standing behind them she had failed to notice before.
Her brows creased slightly as she was confused on whether he was nice or just indeed weird. He appeared like a gentleman one second and the next he was offering her a role as his concubine. The night creatures sure had a twisted way of thinking and distinct viewpoints in life.
He mounted on the horse and extended his hand to her. Rama’s gaze dropped on his arm before it fell back on his face, slightly perplexed he had offered her a ride unlike Draco who’d rather she walked but since they were very dissimilar in personalities, she wasn’t so surprised by his gesture.
She placed her feet on the paddle then mounted on the horse in effortless movements without taking his hand as she sat behind him.
He withdrew his hand in silence and pulled on the reins of the horse, making it gallop through the dark forests as they took the path back to the castle which made her stomach churn in unease and fear.
