Chapter 39: Dreams Into Nightmares
"Wake up Rama!" Rama grunted as she shot her eyes open to meet the familiar forest green eyes of Reina who was hovering above her with creased brows.
"What’s wrong?" Rama mumbled sleepily as she strained to open her eyes.
"What’s wrong? You’re the King’s maid, shouldn’t you be in his chambers first thing in the morning?" Reina questioned rhetorically as she scolded her but Rama didn’t retort and proceeded to getting up on her feet.
"Thank you for waking me up." Rama said with a low voice and Reina gave her a crooked smile.
"Are you alright? Did the King bed you?" Reina queried with a mischievous glint in her green eyes and a sly smirk curving her lips up.
"What? No! Of course not!" Rama replied in a rushed tone as she shot Reina a glare.
"Alright, alright. I’ll be on my way now, so take care." Reina said before exiting the room. She wondered if she could take a bath before proceeding to the King’s room, but she quickly dismissed the thought, not wanting to keep him waiting and earning a punishment for Malika.
She felt a hard object in her gown pocket and she buried her hand inside to pull the object out. Her eyes met the vial red liquid as she lifted it up and she resorted to hiding it in a safe spot. She placed it underneath her mattress and with a satisfied look, she exited the room.
She scurried through the halls toward the East wing with quick paces, sliding her feet across the marble floor until she halted in front of his room. She shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly before pushing the double doors open to emerge into the room.
Her eyes narrowed to Draco on the bed with two ladies each at his side, naked with only the sheets concealing their bodies. A startled gasp escaped her lips and her cheeks flushed red in embarrassment as she turned her back on them, proceeding towards the exit as she averted her gaze from the ludicrous scene.
She wasn’t surprised by his behaviour, after all Reina had told her how much of a hot blooded womanizing vampire he was. He never lacked women and they could never resist his dark allures and dangerous manly charms, but instead of being allured by his flawless beauty, she felt repulsed toward it.
"I a-apologise my lord. I was about to prepare your bath." She stuttered slightly.
"I’ll take my bath myself, wouldn’t want you peeling off my skin with your strong hands." Draco remarked with a bored tone and she heard the women giggle softly, which made her roll her eyes in repulsion.
She sighed in relief.
"I’ll be on my way then." She said with a flat tone and proceeded to leave until his voice halted her in her footsteps.
"I haven’t dismissed you yet." Draco said and she heard the ruffling of sheets replaced by the soft pattering of feet on the marble floor.
She stood pinned to the ground in the position she was in, not turning around even after she heard them leave for the bathing room. After some minutes later, she saw the women move past her all dressed up in exquisite gowns, but not without giving her a deathly side eye with those red eyes of theirs which were lighter in contrast to Draco’s or Zamiel’s.
She wondered what was with all the women and the side eyes shooting her way.
She heard the screeching of chair behind her accompanied by Draco’s husky dark voice.
"Are you going to stand there?" She veered around and dragged her feet across the marble floor toward Draco who was seated on the chair in front of the dressing mirror.
His black silky hair was wet with the tip dripping with water. He extended his hand with a towel to her and she grasped it from his hold with a fierce movement.
"Be gentle or I’ll chop your arms off if you portray how useless they are." Draco warned with a low voice as he peered his precarious crimson eyes at her reflection through the mirror and she quickly averted her gaze.
"I will, my lord." She said and proceeded to drying his hair. She rubbed the towel against his wet, silky strands of hair gently as she tried to avoid provoking him. She wanted to cuss inwardly at him, but she suddenly remembered he could read minds so she shut it out.
She wondered why the night creatures were created perfectly, his hair texture was silkier than hers even and lustrous, which made her a bit envious and she subconsciously wanted to run her fingers through it, but she immediately shoved the strange thought aside as she gained her composure.
She was finally done with drying the hair and she saw him extend his hand with a brush on it. She rolled her eyes inwardly as she took hold of the brush and proceeded.
Even when she was a queen, she did most menial tasks herself which she didn’t really require the maids attention for, but he was acting rather like a spoilt prince who was overly pampered.
She brushed his hair and not a single strand was out of place as she brushed it to fall at his back. He extended his hand with a black ribbon in it and she took hold of it. She could feel his gaze peering at her through the mirror, making her slightly unnerved as he retained an intimidating gaze even without staring into his eyes.
She tied his hair with the black ribbon in a high ponytail, with a few strands of hair falling at the side and she sighed in satisfaction of her handwork. She immediately gave herself an inner smack, reminding herself never to accept being his maid which was quickly rubbing off on her.
"You can’t change what you’ve already become Rama and you can’t run from me or your fate." Draco stated in a flat tone as he peered his gaze at her through the mirror before standing up on his feet with abrupt movements and she moved her feet backward at the immediate closeness, earning a good gap between them.
"How’s your thigh?" He queried before she could stem a snarky retort to his first statement, but his shameless question suddenly made her overwhelmed with embarrassment and contempt and she felt her cheeks heat up.
"Do you need anything else, my lord?" She queried in a delicate manner, the words rolling off her tongue in a forced respectful tone.
"I’ll be going to visit an old accomplice of mine. Wash your face so we can leave." Draco ordered and she wondered where he was going to and moreover, why she was tagging along.
She veered around to leave when his dreary voice halted her in her steps.
"Where are you going to?" He queried with lifted brows.
"To wash my face, like you ordered." Rama replied in a small tone.
"You can wash up in here. Go on." He said in an overly flat tone which made her sense something disturbing going on with him.
She shrugged slightly and proceeded into the bathing chamber. She pulled her hair back and splashed the warm water on her face, before drying it with the towel and a few minutes later, she emerged out of the bathing room.
In silence, she followed behind Draco as they exited the room toward the outside of the castle grounds. She frowned a little as she hadn’t had time to check up on Malika yet.
A carriage halted in front of them and Draco occupied it before she followed behind as she took a seat opposite him.
She was curious on where they were heading to and who his accomplice might be, but she pressed her lips shut and instead looked out the window as the carriage moved out of the castle grounds.
"It’s annoying when I hear you speak, but it’s more annoying when you’re silent." She heard Draco say and she averted her gaze from the window to face him with creased brows in confusion.
"I’m only obeying your wishes, my lord. You told me not to speak unless you permitted it. Did I do something to offend you perhaps?" Rama spoke with innocent doe eyes staring at him, but deep down she was pleased her silence irked him.
"And I hate that facade you’re putting on. It makes me want to rip you apart." Draco uttered darkly as his face twisted into a scowl and she pressed her lips in a thin line.
"If you hate the facade so much, should I act like my real self then?" She queried with a sharper voice and a crooked smirk curved the edges of his lips up as a glint of amusement swirled in his red eyes.
"Yes the facade’s no fun, but be careful with how you act around me. You wouldn’t want to see my true demon side now, would you? I doubt you’d be able to handle it." Draco remarked with a sinister grin revealing his white teeth and pointy incisors.
"I’ve come across a lot of demons and I handled them well." Rama said and she saw a dark gleam in his eyes.
"I assure you this is a real demon, not the ones you came across as a child hiding under your bed. I don’t hide, I come out into the light and turn your dreams into a nightmare." Draco drawled lazily in a low dangerous tune, every word rolling off his lips beneath his breath retained nothing but darkness and malignance coating it.
