Chapter 388: Physician
Rama sat frozen as she processed the realization that she was pregnant. Meanwhile, Draco’s face was etched with concern as he crouched down at her level, cupping her face.
"Rama, what’s wrong? You’ve been acting strange recently." Draco’s quivering voice snapped her back to reality.
Her jade eyes twinkled with a radiant glow and a grin crossed through her lips as she clamped her hand over her open mouth in disbelief.
Meanwhile, Draco was bewildered at her reaction, pondering on her strange mood swings.
"Draco." Rama called with a suspenseful voice, while Draco listened eagerly.
"I’m pregnant!" She blurted out in an elated voice, her aura bubbling with excitement.
As the words rolled off her lips, Draco froze in position, his face etched with perplexity, leaving him dumbstruck.
"Draco?" Rama called as no reaction was elicited from him, but as her face almost fell in sadness, he suddenly enveloped her into a warm embrace, his face buried into the nook of her neck as he whispered softly into her ears.
"Words can’t describe how happy I am right now, I’m going to be a father." His voice was filled with emotions as he uttered every word.
Rama’s heart soothed at his words and a wide beam spread across her face as she hugged him back.
"Just to be sure, we should take you to the physician." Draco suggested and she nodded.
She was excited but also nervous about the check up, but her insides fluttered with happiness at the great possibility that she could be pregnant.
As they made their way through the dimly lit corridors to the royal physician’s chambers. Each step echoed with a heaviness that matched the weight of anticipation hanging in the air between them.
Glancing at him once or twice, she noticed the radiant smile glued to his lips, his eyes swirling with anticipation. For a moment, he seemed to be more excited than her.
Rama’s heart fluttered nervously within her chest as she clung to Draco’s arm, her mind racing with a mixture of hope and apprehension.
For weeks now, she had been plagued by strange sensations stirring within her, sensations that whispered of new life growing within her womb. But as they approached the physician’s chambers, a sense of doubt gnawed at her insides, casting a shadow over her hopes for the future.
Draco’s hand tightened around hers as they reached their destination, his eyes soft with reassurance as he offered her a supportive smile. "Whatever the outcome, my love," he murmured, his voice low and soothing, "we will face it together."
With a nod of gratitude, Rama summoned the courage to push open the heavy wooden door and step inside the physician’s chambers. The room was bathed in a soft golden light, the air heavy with the scent of herbs and potions as they made their way to the physician’s desk.
The royal physician, a wise old man with a kind smile and gentle eyes, rose from his seat to greet them, his hands clasped together in a gesture of welcome. "Your majesties," he said with a respectful bow, "what brings you to my chambers today?"
Draco cleared his throat, his expression serious as he spoke. "We have come to seek your counsel, physician," he said, his voice firm but tinged with uncertainty. "My wife believes that she may be with child, and we wish to know if her suspicions are true."
The physician’s brow furrowed in concern as he turned his gaze to Rama, his eyes studying her intently. "I see," he said thoughtfully, "please, my lady, if you would allow me to examine you."
With a nod of consent, Rama stepped forward, her heart pounding in her chest as she allowed the physician to conduct his examination.
He gestured for her to sit and she did on a small cushion. Her heart pounded erratically in her chest as he proceeded. Her mind was teteering on the brink of nervousness, but she managed to calm down.
The physician’s touch was gentle and reassuring as he palpated her abdomen, his brow furrowing in concentration as he searched for any signs of pregnancy.
As he conducted his examinations, Draco’s hand slipped into hers, squeezing them gently to give her some sort of comfort and she beamed him a smile.
After what felt like an eternity, the physician finally stepped back, his expression somber as he met Rama’s gaze. "I am sorry, my lady," he said softly, "but there is no evidence to suggest that you are with child."
A heavy silence descended upon the room as Rama processed the physician’s words, her heart sinking with disappointment. She had allowed herself to hope, to dream of a future filled with joy and possibility, only to have those dreams dashed in an instant.
Draco reached out to wrap his arms around her, his touch a source of comfort in her moment of despair. "It’s alright, my love," he murmured, his voice filled with sympathy, "We’ll have a child, just give it time."
But despite his words of reassurance, Rama could not shake the sense of loss that weighed heavily upon her heart. She had allowed herself to believe that she was destined for motherhood, only to have that dream ripped away from her in an instant.
The physician, sensing the heavy loss in her heart, gave her an apologetic look as he bowed deeply "I’m so sorry, Your Highness. I could make some potent herbs to increase her chances of taking in." The physician suggested but Draco refused with a slight head shake.
Meanwhile, Rama was still reeling in her sense of loss, she hadn’t caught a word from the physician.
As they made their way back through the corridors of the castle, Rama clung to Draco’s arm, her eyes cast downwards as she struggled to contain the tears that threatened to spill from her eyes. She felt as though she had failed him, failed herself, in their quest to build a future together.
But as they reached the sanctuary of their chambers, Draco pulled her into his embrace once more, holding her close while she sobbed into his chest.
He left her in silence to cry her eyes out into his embrace and after some time, she stopped crying. Only her soft sobs were heard as she slumped down weakly on the cushion, while he sat beside her. They cuddled in a comforting embrace while he listened to her as she spewed out her feelings.
She was hurt and he felt it even more. It was like a piercing sting that sliced through them. Her hopes of being a mother and bringing a new life into the world had been snatched away from her so coldly, it made her numb.
It was a bitter revelation that she couldn’t digest, like a bile stuck in her throat. She had been so excited, so certain of the fact that she was carrying his child, so certain of the fact that she would be able to give him a chance to be a doting father and give their child a love that he was never accustomed to.
But now, there wasn’t any hope for that to happen and she felt utterly disappointed.
She looked up at Draco with puffed eyes from crying "I don’t understand what happened, I’ve been feeling strange these past few days and I’ve never craved with no control before, I was sure that I was pregnant. I...felt it in me." She said with uncertainty hanging in her words as she placed her hand on her stomach.
"You’ve been stressed lately, perhaps, that is why you thought you were pregnant and Malika’s news only probed the possibility even more." Draco implied.
Although, he was equally sad about the news that she wasn’t really pregnant, there was no disappointment in his countenance, only understanding and hope still brimmed brightly in his crimson eyes.
"But...I was so sure, if I’m not pregnant, then why did I get those strange symptoms? Why did I feel dizzy, hungry or nauseous? They weren’t normal symptoms, the physician could be wrong, after, he’s very old, he might have lost his touch or something, or perhaps the baby is too small for him to immediately notice it." Rama contemplated in an erratic manner, her eyes filled with hope once again.
"Rama." Draco called, his demeanor indifferent to hers. "Zoya has already prophesied our little prince’s birth, we will have a child together. It will only be a matter of time." He implied and she nodded in agreement as she realized the extent of her desperation, it clawed through her insides profoundly, it left a gash in her heart, an open wound that could only be stitched close when her dream of becoming a mother had been fulfilled.
Meanwhile, Draco had been torn between his inner turmoil. He was torn between being glad and sad, in the recesses of his mind, he hoped inwardly that she would never be able to conceive, but his heart yearned to be a father.
Her giving birth to their child would only give Lucifer access into their lives once again as he had already made a deal with him, and on the other hand, if she failed to take in, it would be peaceful, but was it worth it?
Despite the dangers ahead of them, he’s heart yearned for their child to come into the world, after all, Zoya had prophecied about their son’s birth.
