The Devil's Warrior Queen
Chapter 226: Skeptical

Chapter 226: Skeptical

Immediately he appeared back in the cottage, the dark mists enveloping his form dissipated. Proceeding to move towards the bedroom, the moment he took one step forward, he heard Rama’s voice rattle behind him. It was oddly calm, too calm, he immediately realized she was mad.

"Where have you been?"

Cursing beneath his breath, he turned around to face her. Her demeanor was neutral, but he could sense the rising unsettlement in her aura.

"Why aren’t you asleep love?" He asks, trying to divert the topic.

Her eyes hardened on him "That doesn’t answer my question."

Opening his mouth to speak, she beat him to it "Why are you sneaking out in the middle of the night? Don’t lie to me, I’m not stupid." She warned, her face slowly contorting into a grimace.

Draco sighed, sincerity swimming beneath his gaze as he finally spoke "I went to see Lucifer."

The moment the words rolled off his lips, a rain of hysteria washed down on her as she gulped heavily, her lips trembling at his confession, one that she wasn’t expecting.

Her lashes fluttered and her body movements were rather agitated "Why did you go to see him? Did he threaten us again?"

"No, it’s nothing of that sort. I was the one that threatened him, to stay away from us, away from you. I just want to be able to give you a peaceful life and certainly one that does not involve my father." Draco lied, but his lies were beclouded by the sincerity in his gaze, the sincerity to give her a peaceful life.

He refrained from spilling the truth about the shadow bane dagger affecting him. Opening up to her about the recent happenings would only make her worry more. He wanted every single moment in that place to be a cherishing one, without a single negative memory.

"You shouldn’t have done that, what if you only provoked him even more?" She panicked with a grave look etched on her face.

"It’s fine love, he’s finally come to agree to a peace treaty." He lied even more, noticing her concerned and agitated state.

As soon as he spoke, her brows furrowed even tighter and her eyes widened like saucers, shaking her head in disbelief. He felt utterly remorseful that he had to lie to her about everything, but if that meant she could be happy with not the slightest hindrance affecting her happines, then he wouldn’t hesitate in doing it again.

"Really? A peace treaty? He agreed to a peace treaty? Why? How?" She queried in a chirpy tone, gasping in wonder.

"He gets to be a part of his grandchild’s life, he couldn’t resist the offer." Draco said, lies spewing out of his mouth as smoothly as butter.

Rama’s brows creased, she was delighted about Lucifer finally coming to agree to a peace treaty but she wasn’t quite happy about the fact that he would be a part of their lives, even worse their child’s life. It was unnerving for her to hear as she had wanted her child to grow up as normal as possible, but with the devil in his life, normal would be far from possible.

"It’s fine, he’s not going to live with us, he only gets to visit and it won’t be often." Draco assured.

Pressing her lips in a thin line, she nodded with a slightly glum countenance with a mixture of delight as a faint smile crossed her lips. She was torn between relief and anxiety.

"Well, it’s a good thing. We’re finally free from him, although I don’t appreciate the fact that he’ll be in our child’s life, but I’ll try to accept him." Rama concluded.

"Whatever you want love, now let’s go back to bed, hm?" Draco suggested with a smile.

Cuddling in bed, he wrapped his arms around her, shielding her in his warm embrace while she rests her head in his chest, inhaling his cologne.

His spicy scent was rather relieving whenever she inhaled it, it was her own aromatherapy, always soothing her senses and conveying a sense of tranquility.

Caressing his hard chest, she raised her head to look at him with a confused expression "Your heartbeat is very slow, slower than usual." She pointed out and he tensed.

"I’m fine love, go to sleep." He said slightly hurriedly and she nodded.

In the silence, she breathed out a skeptical sigh.

A new dawn broke, the birds chirped as they took flight to and fro in the forest, dew drops glistened the leaves and the sun slowly peeked out of its hiding place to enact its golden rays on the land.

Soft flowing waves of nearby streams and lakes added a tranquil sense to the beautiful nature, while animals residing in the forest howled and hooted, the sound of nature acting as an alarm to wake the couple living in the cottage.

Waking up, they both took a nice warm bath in the small tub, lips smacking loudly in the four corners of the room and water rippling heavily as the scent of erotica filled the air that nice morning.

"I’ll help you brush your hair." Rama offered after they were done taking their bath.

Obediently, he sat in front of the small dressing table while she proceeded. Rubbing the towel against his hair, she cleaned it dry before taking a wooden brush. Everything was so simple now and she loved it.

Feeling his silky strands cascade against her hand, she ran the brush through his hair gently while humming a song. She could feel his burning orbs peering at her through the mirror and when she looked at her reflection for their gazes to look, she smiled timidly and a red tinge flushed over her golden porcelain skin.

"Why do you always stare?" She blurted out in a shy voice.

"Do I need a reason to stare at my beautiful wife?" He smirked, those smoldering eyes of his piercing into hers.

She simply chuckled, unable to say a word.

"I’m done." She announced with a satisfied smile at the work she had done on his hair.

Not noticing it earlier as he was fully engrossed in her face, he finally looked at his reflection, his eyes squinted at the sight of what she had done to his hair.

Trying his hair in a ponytail, she braided the sides, letting it fall over his shoulders. It was surprisingly good, but nothing he had ever done before.

Nodding he said "It’s good." as he stood up.

Skipping, she swung the door open as she went outside of the cottage, feeling the sunlight basking her in its warmth and then she turned to look at Draco.

"Why don’t I burn in the sun without taking anything?" She queried with curiosity flashing in her big jade eyes.

"Like I said, you still have your human essence." He explained and she nodded, averting her gaze back to the vast expanse of the mountains beyond.

"I’d love to paint this scenery." She exclaimed and without waiting for another second, she dashed into the house, bringing out the painting materials, while Draco watched her as she skipped to and fro the cottage with a bright smile on her face.

Engrossed in what she was doing, she created delicate strokes and lines across the canvas, while stealing long glances at the mountain beyond with tall pine trees, hills and streams.

Imitating the image of the scenery in front of her which she applied onto the canvas with subtle attention while she was slightly distracted by the silence and the shadowy presence emanating from the figure behind her as he watched what she was doing with full attention.

Finally, she was done with her masterpiece. Moving back with a delighted smile, she darted her eyes between the mountain below and her painting. It was a fine mimic of the mountain, with the trees and lakes winding into paths below.

"That’s a fine artwork, its impressive." Draco praised from behind her and she chuckled.

"Well, I’m a fast learner." She bragged with a high chin and then as if something sparked in her head, she exclaimed out "Can I go to the market? I mean, to buy food and other stuffs."

Draco stared at her with one raised brow "The market? I’ll go with you."

"Of course you’re coming it will be fun to go together." Rama said with a smile as she rushed into the cottage and came out with a basket in her hand.

"Let’s go." She chirped as she looped her arms around his.

Emerging from their quaint cottage, they strolled along a meandering dirt path, shaded by ancient trees adorned with vibrant foliage. Birds sang harmoniously, and the air was thick with the scent of pine and wildflowers.

As they walked hand in hand, the woven basket swung gently from Rama’s arm, ready to be filled with fresh produce from the bustling market at the edge of the woods in the town.

As they neared, the soft rustle of leaves and distant laughter of fellow villagers echoed softly in the air.
