The Devil's Warrior Queen
Chapter 171: Impending

Chapter 171: Impending

Walking in silence into their chamber, she stood in front of the window, lost eyes peering through it as she searched for the unseen. Cold hands rested on her shoulders but it released warmth throughout her body, a warmth that almost made her anxieties fade away.

She sighed softly at the presence of the looming darkness behind her, his touch sending a wave of solace in her amidst the impending dangers.

"Would we ever have peace being together? I ask myself this question over and over again, I know the answer but I don’t want to believe it, I’m well aware of the dangers, but I chose the thorny path still." She murmured in a trance like state, pressing subtle thoughts on it.

"I can’t promise you peace, but I can promise you that I’ll fight till the very end and every war will be worth it." His velvety smooth voice rang behind her.

"I know, I chose this path filled with roses and thorns, temptation and darkness, but... I could never regret it still, every moment with you has made me feel more alive than I ever did...even if it lasts for a short moment, I’ll cherish every inch of it, every inch of you." Her voice rang low as the words rolled off her lips in a bittersweet tone.

She could feel Draco stiffen behind her the moment she spoke, sensing his darkened aura she immediately regretted spouting out those words, she knew how sensitive he became when she spoke of her dying.

"You won’t die Rama, stop saying frivolous things." He whispered into her ear as he squeezed her shoulders gently. She could feel the rising anger emanating from within him, but he was doing well to repress it.

"I find it ironic that ordinary humans have what we desire, they’re not powerful, immortal and neither do they possess any unique qualities, yet their lives are so much more easy." She reasoned out.

"It’s meaningless in my opinion." He uttered flatly.

"There’s nothing meaningless in having peace, it’s what everyone yearns for, including you." She said as she veered around to face him.

"Only because of you, but if I had nothing to worry about it would be boring to live such a meaningless life." He admitted and she snorted out a chuckle.

In a sense, he was right. Equally, she had always loved an adventurous life full of thrilling epic dangers, but now that she had someone special in her life to live for, someone whom she enjoyed the ordinary frivolous things in life with, her desires were modified, she only wanted to be with him and nothing else.

"Do you know what your father’s weakness is?" She queried out of the blue.

"He doesn’t have one anymore." Draco answered with a straight face.

"That’s where you’re wrong, he does." She exclaimed.

"He’s scared of us birthing a powerful offspring that could overpower him and dethrone his seat in hell, I believe that was the hidden motive that drove him to murder the seers and now he’s trying to threaten you into agreeing to have a child with a demoness so that he could easily manipulate it into its doing and help him in his quest for retribution, dethrone God and rule over the celestial realm." She pointed out as she blabbed without taking a break once.

"My sweet feisty princess managed to figure it out and connect the dots." He remarked in a teasing tone as he patted her head playfully.

"What?! If you knew about it then why didn’t you tell me earlier? And I just questioned you about his weakness, you said he doesn’t have one knowing fully well he does! Why do you keep hiding things from me?!" She snapped, angry eyes burning into his.

"Calm down Rama, I didn’t want to dump irrelevant information on you, besides that, you have been restless and thinking lately, what’s stopping you from thinking excessively when I dump those kind of informations on you, I simply don’t want to burden you Rama, you’ve been through a lot already." He explained with a hard look on his face, his brows furrowed.

"That’s not an excuse, I’ll think anyway. I always overthink about everything, not disclosing something important won’t stop me nevertheless. I have pleaded with you countless times to stop hiding secrets from me and yet, you still do, its not so hard to be partners in sharing everything, we can’t even share our bed not in a literal sense but, you know what I mean." Rama argued in frustration as her squinted eyes peered through his snaky ones.

"Fine, I’ll stop hiding things from you." He said apologetically but as soon as a charming grin tore through his lips to reveal those flawless set of white pearls and predatory glistening fangs, her heart skipped a beat.

She cleared her throat awkwardly as she realized how long she had been gaping with her mouth hanging low.

"You said the same thing the other day, but I’ll let it go if you answer a question." She said, holding firm contact with him.

"Ask anything you want." He said, ready to give her answers with enthusiastic eyes.

"Are you sure? Anything?" She pressed to be sure.

"Yes love." He answered and she gulped before asking.

"Tell me about your mother and the relationship between you and her, and how you acquired the throne. Obviously you didn’t become king in a day." The words spewed out of her lips without a stifle.

His face turned grim for a second but it immediately switched into a nonchalant one in a beat.

"Well, my mother was a princess in a far away kingdom, she got married off as the second wife to King Theron, the vampire king and she had two sons for the King, this was all before she met her mate, Lucifer." He paused, staring at her as she waited eagerly for him to continue, wide curious eyes waiting for her ears to be filled with his voice.

"So wait! Why didn’t he come for her earlier and rather let her get married to someone else and have two children? She probably had no idea he was her mate but he definitely would have known about it, right?" Rama interrupted with a shock stricken face, brows furrowed in displeasure at the story, she could already smell a tragic ending.

"He should have claimed her earlier, but the bastard was trying to ignore it because it would serve as a distraction to him and he feared having a distraction and a vulnerable side of him would make him divert from his crucial ambition, unfortunately he couldn’t evade the call of the mating bond for long, he succumbed to it and went to steal a glance of her once, once turned to twice and then he couldn’t stop." He paused, her eyes gleamed with a surreal light in it, it was obvious she found it quite romantic, unable to quite believe the devil had once been in love.

She wondered if his mother was still alive whether Lucifer’s goal would have been different like Draco’s.

"Ultimately, they had an affair and that was how she gave birth to me. He tried to persuade her to give the baby to him, but she didn’t want to because she knew she would never see him again, he wanted to abandon her to proceed with his goal. She knew he would only come to see her because of me, so she held onto me and eventually the king found out I wasn’t his." He paused, swallowing deeply as if the next words had clogged onto his throat.

Rama, impatient with the short silence "So what happened next?"

"A childhood in hell." He said in a flat tone, his eyes dead and cold.

"He never came to see me until I was old enough. While I lived my entire childhood being loathed and detested by everyone around me, he never came to see me once. My mother at first seemed lovely, but when he didn’t show his presence for years not even once no matter how long she cried, it broke not only her heart but her soul. Along with everyone, she despised me the most because I was a haunting replica of my father, I had never hated myself more than then, when my mother would curse my birth with tears, my brothers would mock and taunt me for being a demon, I was always locked up and when I had to go out, I was sent to war in hopes that I would die." His lips twitched as his words dripped with hellish venom.

"At twelve, he came to me telling me to leave with him but I refused. At sixteen, I met her, the human named Iris. She was the only one who didn’t see me as a monster and being a broken child who had never gained acceptance from anyone, I quite liked the feeling of being accepted by her. I wasn’t in love, I was accepted. And then he killed her because I bedded her in fear of her birthing a weak demon that would stain his lineage. I had planned beforehand to annihilate the entire royal family, I only postponed it because of her but when he killed her, I lost it, so I took away the most precious thing to him while he watched as I ripped her apart limb by limb and I laughed as he watched, afterwards I murdered every single person inside the castle in cold blood, every wall and floor was stained in blood and bits of flesh and then, I took the throne, seated on it covered in blood and declared myself as the vampire king."
