Chapter 124: Encounter With The Devil II
His sincere words left her struck dumbfounded as his gaze peered into hers, she found it hard to convey words or stir any sort of reply, but his words had struck a sensitive cord in her heart, he had confessed that he didn’t feel such a delicate feeling as love toward her, he felt an inexplicable bond that surpassed human knowledge.
"Have I answered your question now?" He queried with a half hearted grin tearing across his lips like a dark crescent moon.
"I still have more questions." She said with a straight face, as she strengthened her resolve to make her voice sound sharp and clear even though she was smitten by his earnest words, butterflies fluttering rapidly in her stomach.
He tilted his head to the side as he sat on the side of the bed next to her, she swallowed at their closeness.
"What questions feisty princess?" He queried, his voice suddenly husky and low as he maintained his unwavering eye contact with her.
She gulped before saying "You have secrets, don’t you?" She queried, her jade eyes retaining sobriety.
His face turned blank, the dark abyss in his crimson ember gaze sucking out the flicker of warmth it retained in them to leave nothing but cold darkness, making his eyes similar to his father’s shallow and empty ones.
"The devil always has a secret, one that could either destroy or lead to damnation." He remarked, his voice as empty and cold as his gaze.
"No riddles or mysteries or leaving me in the dark anymore, I’m so sick of being left in the dark. He said something about history being repeated again, is it? Am I going to die? Is something going to happen to me?" She queried with slight panic etched in her strained voice.
From what she understood by Lucifer’s words, it felt as though they were was a woman in the past who had an inauspicious end, maybe someone Draco had fallen in love with? The thought unnerved her and at the same time, she felt a tang of jealousy pricking her skin.
"You won’t die, he can’t hurt you because we’re bonded and he’s well aware of the consequences if he killed my bond mate, so fret not." He said with a neutral countenance.
"You haven’t answered my question. Was there someone before me you were bonded to? Did she die?" She spouted out her intrusive thoughts blatantly. The air grew silent with thickened anticipation as she saw a muscle in his jaw tick unnervingly.
"You’re tired, let’s speak about this some other time, get some rest." He said plainly as he proceeded to get up, but she reflexively grabbed his arm, making him halt.
"What’s so hard about the truth? You can’t keep hiding things from me forever, sooner or later I’ll find out the ugly skeletons you hide in your closet anyway." She remarked with unwavering determination to let go of her curiosity.
He sighed with drooping shoulders to accept defeat, he was well aware of her burning curiosity and her resolve to not easily let go, so he finally complied to her inquisitive nature.
"I never marked her, that’s why she died, the same won’t happen to you, you’re different, marked, untouchable, and irreplaceable." He stated out in one breath.
Her brows furrowed, the thought of him falling in love with someone in the past irked her, although he didn’t seem to care anymore, she couldn’t help but feel a strange tang of jealousy overwhelm her.
"She was the reason you were in pain, wasn’t she? What was her name?" She queried, bitterness coating her tonne without her even knowing it.
"Not anymore, and her name is definitely not important, so get some rest Rama, the dead possesses nothing for you to be jealous about." He said nonchalantly.
She pressed her lips tightly knowing he was right, but...jealous? No, she chuckled inwardly.
"I wasn’t jealous, just asking questions but I’m curious, why didn’t you mark her?" Rama queried yet again with large for eyes staring up at him.
"Because I held fragile mortal feelings for her. Love." He stated out blankly.
"How...did she die?" Rama questioned carefully as she tread deeper into the topic, she could tell he was tired of talking about it, but there was no sign of discomfort or grief.
"He killed her. Lucifer." He paused as he studied her not so surprised expression, after her encounter with the devil, it didn’t come as a shocker to her that he would kill his son’s mortal lover.
"He despised the thought of me harbouring mortal feelings for a mere mortal, fortunately for him I held only mortal feelings for her, or hell would be filled with nothing but the debris of scorched skeletons of his minions, so trust me when I say he wouldn’t make that mistake of hurting you." He said, his voice a hypnotic honeyed darkness.
"And what if he hurts you?" She queried, her voice low and distant with uneasiness.
The room fell eerily quiet, plunged into the arms of murky silence that seemed to infect the very air with an acrid bitterness.
"I’m immortal, Rama, you keep forgetting that." He said, breaking the wallowing silence.
"But can he hurt you? He’s the devil and both of you are immortal." She stated out thoughtfully.
"Are you worried about me, feisty princess? It’s a shocker to see you worried about me, the bond works wonders." He said in a rather carefree tone as a sheepish grin cut through his lips.
She scoffed with rolling eyes as she averted her gaze from him.
"I’m only curious to know if he’s capable of your misery, after all you’re the reason why I’ve been plunged into this dilemmatic crisis in my life." She spitted out venomously, but then she soon regretted trying to hurt him with her words.
She only heard a grunt from him and before she could drop her gaze back on him, she saw his retreating figure fading through the velvet tapestries as he faded into the washroom.
She buried her face in her palms thinking she had hurt him with her words, but then she shook her head, reminding herself not to care about his feelings as she remembered how he had destroyed her kingdom and took everything away from her, yes he was the cause of her current plight, she shouldn’t forget that. She repeated in her head like a mantra as she gav herself a mental scolding.
She loosened the cords holding the silk curtains together in the bed post as she buried herself under the quilt while turning to face the curtains as she lay stiffly very close to the edge of the bed even though it was large enough to occupy five people.
Her brain racked, running in different thoughts on whether he had gone to get prepared for the consummation of the wedding night. Her toes itched to run, but she stayed still comforting herself with the thought that he had told her to rest since Lucifer’s presence had taken quite a toll on her.
She hoped inwardly that his thoughts of letting her rest still stood, maybe if she was less provocative with her words and actions he might have pity on her and give her some time, but when she thought about it more, being more provocative seemed to be a much better idea as he would be less interested in her.
Although she doubted it would work courtesy to the stupid bond they shared and moreover she wasn’t even sure she could resist his melting touch, she was sure she’d turn to plastic under high temperature in his warm embrace.
Amidst her racing thoughts and heart, the room suddenly plunged into darkness as the candlelight was snuffed out by an eerie breeze, only the silvery glow of the moonlight bathed the marble floor as it passed through the window.
Afterwards, she felt the other side of the bed sink as that familiar dark presence occupied it, his spicy scent invading her nostrils like sweet poison.
Before she could think straight she felt his strong arms wrap around her waist as he effortlessly pulled her away from the edge of the bed, closer to himself for her back to collide against his naked chest.
"You’ll fall over if you sleep like that and aren’t you feeling hot with that robe on?" He said, his voice whisking directly into her ears as his face leaned down on her neck, making his hot breath fan her cold skin.
Although there was no sign of mischief in his voice, she couldn’t help but feel that tatalizing warmth emanating from him.
She closed her eyes tightly, temptation overwhelming her as she felt that familiar tingling sensation run down her spine. True, it was hot wearing that thick robe as she slept, but it was the only barrier between her rational mind and temptation.
"I can’t take it off if you’re holding me." She complained and he withdrew his hands, letting her free enough to move.
She sat up, slowly pulling the rope holding the robe in place, she peeled it off her body to reveal the flimsy night dress beneath it while feeling Draco’s intense gaze on her. Even though it was dark, she knew he could see every silhouette of her curves beneath the flimsy wear or even more.
She mechanically fell back stiffly on the bed, turning her back on him as she pulled the quilt over her body, but then she felt strong, warm hands creeping underneath the quilt as it traced her curves while wounding his arm around her waist possessively.
