The Demon King's First General
Chapter 72: Little Snowflower

Chapter 72: Little Snowflower

The sudden drop in temperature would make Kizeler lose his mind. He went to the path leading to the frozen lake, but he first bought a set of thick clothes that would help him stay alive in the snowy region.

"Why do people love to live in this kind of place?" He wondered before pulling up the hood of his coat and looking up into the sky.

’I wonder what Priscilla’s doing right now. Is she asleep? Did she eat already?’ He thought.

Afterward, he pulled a white-colored stone with his family’s crest embedded on its surface and looked at it. Then the hoarse voice of his uncle echoed in his mind.

’Find the man called Fat Shayke in the empire’s capital and show this to him; he knows the real reason behind your father’s death,’ he recited in his thoughts.

This was his true purpose for setting out on a journey towards the heart of the empire—to unravel the truth about his father’s disappearance. Since the only thing he knew about it was that his old man died during a battle against a horde of demons,

"Enough thinking about it; I need to chase that man first," he said before running into the thick pile of snow.

. . . . .

Zeno appeared to be standing at the surface of the water. The lightning blasted a hole in the frozen lake, and now he was clad in black flickering electricity while his hair and eyes turned black in color. Aside from this, two small black dots appeared under his left eye; however, their number decreased to one as soon as he unleashed another lightning strike at the revenant’s position.

"Eliana, Piero, Jack," he uttered and dashed towards the mist created by his previous attack.

The surface of the red dice with four white skulls radiated a white hue before the names he said began to appear on his right wrist, while the latter was placed on the left.

Streams of electricity were left on Zeno’s trail, and the ice beneath him was crushed with his every step. The next second, he fidgeted the dagger between his fingers and aimed a punch towards something like an igloo.

’So she still managed to block that; I’m pretty impressed,’ he thought.

Then the pair of daggers were replaced by gauntlets as soon as his fist was only a few inches away from the blocks of hard snow.

After receiving a full-blown attack from the demon, the igloo crumbled into pieces, and the revenant was sent flying along with the broken walls. Then she was forced to stop her momentum by creating walls of ice on both sides. She placed her hand on them, grazing the skin of her palm against the cold surface of the thick walls.

However, the moment she stopped, the demon appeared above her with a kick aimed at her head. The sole of his foot was covered with high-voltage electricity.

"Hey, I’m not done yet," Zeno said, grinning.

The revenant raised her hand and weaved another thick layer of ice to block the demon’s attack.

"I’m afraid its strength is not the same as before," the silver-haired demon blurted out, notifying his opponent about her wrong decision.

Like Zeno had expected, the ice shattered as soon as he struck it, and the woman used her arm as a last resort to protect herself, but the force of the attack sent her deep down, underneath the lake.

Zeno stared at the splashes of water until they turned into ripples. The particles of black lightning that was sent downward along with the revenant spread out into the vastness of the lake.

The next moment, several icicles came from underwater and went straight to Zeno, but they were destroyed in an instant upon contact with the flickering lightning surrounding him.

Then, in a blink of an eye, the revenant got out of the water while aiming a palm strike directly at the demon’s face. Her left arm suffered from burns that made some of its flesh visible, yet she still maintained her stoic expression.

Zeno parried the hand coming at him, but the woman spun around and tried to flick her other arm towards the demon. However, instead of dodging, Zeno caught it and pulled her closer to him.

"You’re too sweet-scented for a living corpse," he uttered while letting his fingers brush the woman’s lengthy hair.

"Let me go," the revenant said, with emphasis on each word.

Then she grabbed the demon’s arm with her free hand and tried to release herself from his grasp, but she found it troublesome to do so. So, she raised her knee and aimed for a strike to Zeno’s stomach; however, the attack failed to connect as the demon pushed her away after sliding his hand from her robe’s pocket.

"No, give it back to me," she whispered the moment she noticed the demon looking at a small ring.

However, Zeno stayed silent as he inspected the tiny object between his fingers.

’Is it really that thing?’ He thought.

Then he disabled the gauntlet on his left hand and put the ring on it. It was large, but it soon compressed, fitting in a perfect way on his middle finger. He tried to tug it, but it became so tight that it was impossible to pull it out.

"It looks like it has found a new owner," Zeno uttered as he diverted his gaze toward the woman.

"I can’t live without that ring," the woman replied.

At this moment, a hint of sadness was present on her face. After all, the object that a revenant was protecting defined their lives. Once it was stolen from them and took them away from the place where they had full authority, they would be good as dead.

Upon noticing the changes in her expression, Zeno stared at her and smiled.

"Then come with me, and I’ll help you with that, Ruq’oyah," he said.

. . . . .

"What kind of creature is this?" Kizeler asked while scanning the carcass of the monster that he found.

It took him almost an hour of running to arrive at the place where Zeno and Cerberus fought. Never in his life had he heard about a monster that had three heads, though he knew of a creature with seven heads lurking underneath the ocean.

Then he looked at the damage that caused its gruesome death: one of its heads was severed, while the middle one was burned and disintegrated due to an explosion, and the other was torn apart from its mouth.

Kizeler gulped a few times as he wondered who could put an unknown monster in a state like that, but he suddenly remembered what happened to a dragon this morning.

"There’s no way it wasn’t him," he uttered.

After that, he traced the few droplets of blood; some were not that visible due to the snow, but upon seeing that they were leading into the path he was taking, he resumed his running and arrived at the coast of the frozen lake. The scenery was grand, but he couldn’t afford to admire it for now.

Due to the fact that he couldn’t sense the demon, he proceeded to search for any presence in the area, but aside from small monsters hiding underneath the snow, he found nothing.

"Where the hell is he?" he uttered while still looking around.

Afterward, he heard a crackling sound coming from the center of the lake, and cracks appeared in the atmosphere. As soon as they shattered, a blinding light illuminated the surroundings for a few seconds.

Kizeler closed his eyes and covered them with his hands to protect them from the sudden outburst of light. Then, as soon as the darkness returned, he heard a familiar voice.

"You’re here! How’s the nap?" Zeno asked upon seeing his human companion.

As soon as the human opened his eyes, his brows knitted as he saw Zeno drenched in blood again, and he soon noticed the woman lying on his arms.

"Is she dead?" He blurted out all of a sudden after sensing no life coming from her.

. . . . .

A few minutes earlier, inside the distorted space, the revenant looked at Zeno with dumbfounded stares.

"How? How do you know my name?" She asked, confused.

Then she tried to process what the demon meant with his words. However, all she recalled were her previous attempts to leave the place that went awry.

"It’s impossible; I’ve already tried all the ways I can think of," she uttered. "None of them worked."

Upon hearing the revenant’s complaint, Zeno chuckled and walked closer to her. Then, upon reaching just a meter away, he halted his steps and spoke.

"Your failures have nothing to do with me. Our approach might be similar in a way, but the outcome would never be the same," he explained before raising his right hand.

The gauntlet reverted back to a black dice, which landed on his palm.

"So, are you with me?" He asked.

"Let’s say that it’s true, but what are your motives for helping me leave this place?" Ruq’oyah answered, doubts still present within her.

"Nothing; I won’t gain a single thing from this transaction; after all, I already have this," Zeno replied before raising his left hand to show the silver ring on his finger.

"Moreover, it’s a pity to think that a powerful entity like you would perish the moment I leave this place," he added.

The revenant contemplated for almost a minute; even if she didn’t agree with the demon, there would still be no other path for her aside from death, and if she chose an all-out battle, the result would still be obvious.

She didn’t know how it happened, but she believed that the demon in front of her still had so many tricks up his sleeve. They began to fight on equal footing, but after that black lightning descended, it turned into a one-sided battle.

So she decided to agree with the man’s suggestion.

"I’ll do it. Take me with you!" She exclaimed, which brought an evil grin into the demon’s face, and he went closer to her.

"Great, then pardon me for this," Zeno stated while staring into the revenant’s eyes.

He raised his hand and pointed his finger into her head.

"W-what are you doing?" Ruq’oyah asked, confused by the demon’s actions.

"Just relax," Zeno replied before tapping the woman’s forehead. Afterward, a small white particle of light came out of her body and flew into the red dice. The next second, Ruq’oyah started to collapse and was about to fall on the water, but Zeno caught her and wrapped his arms around her body.

"Have a good night’s sleep, my little snowflower," he said, beaming with smiles.
