The Demon King's First General -
Chapter 58: Rumbling of A Giant
Chapter 58: Rumbling of A Giant
As soon as the ex-captain uttered those words, a rainbow appeared in the middle of the lake. Then he started to step into the array of colors and walk towards the other side.
Lexzi followed him with questions all over his mind.
"Why can’t we just fly our way in there?" He asked.
Delta chuckled upon hearing the first prince. He turned around and walked backwards as he answered the man’s query.
"Levitating inside this place is impossible; the fluctuations of energy will disrupt the platform you used to go up. Even with great concentration, I haven’t passed a meter without falling," Delta explained.
"Do you want to try?" He added upon seeing that the prince had doubts about his explanation.
Lexzi shook his head. He was not that convinced; however, it was Delta who was talking, so he chose to surrender the case. Then he looked at the deep-green lake beneath them. He tried to sense the bottom area of it, but he failed.
’It’s too deep,’ he thought.
Afterward, out of curiosity, he asked another question, which made Delta smile.
"What is this place? Can you please explain?" He said, begging to know the answers.
"I, myself, have no complete understanding regarding this place. Try asking its owner once we arrive there," the ex-captain replied, then he turned around and walked in a normal way.
Lexzi didn’t say a word after; he just stayed behind Delta until the two of them reached the end of the rainbow. Afterward, they moved towards the cave and entered. It looked small from the outside, but it was spacious enough to fit an adult dragon.
The inside of the cave was dark, and the first prince summoned a speck of light to be their guide. However, it flickered a few times and died, and then torches hanging on both sides of the wall lit up the area.
The prince tried to cast the magic he used to create light earlier, but like what happened, it died just after a few seconds. Anxiety struck him as he saw that his magic was getting nullified in just a matter of time.
’How can I fight if something appears here?’ He thought.
Delta, who was now walking beside him, tapped the prince’s shoulder upon noticing his discomfort.
"Nothing will hurt us here..." He paused for a moment, then pointed at the light coming from a distance.
"That’s the place!" He exclaimed and ran towards the end of the cave.
Lexzi pinched himself as soon as they made it out of the tunnel.
"I-Is t-this real?" He stuttered, asking.
The scenery that he saw moments earlier was nothing compared to what transpired in front of him now. He slowly moved along the cliff and sat down. Afterwards, he tried to touch the white, fluffy object floating underneath, but it was too steep for him to reach. Then he stood up and asked the man behind him.
"Are you sure we’re at the right place?" Lexzi exclaimed as he looked around and found nothing aside from the radiant blue sky and the sea of clouds.
Delta laughed upon hearing him, and the next moment, with a gentle push from him, the prince fell into the cliff.
"We’re almost there," he said.
Lexzi heard him loud and clear, but he failed to understand the ex-captain’s action. He was dumbfounded.
’Is he trying to kill me?’ He thought; however, he soon shook his head and erased the idea inside his mind.
"There’s no way; he’ll do that unless he isn’t Delta," he uttered as he went down faster.
Then he conjured platforms made of energy, but like Delta told him before, they broke down several seconds later.
"Now, what to do?" He said, trying to think of how to escape his demise, but upon noticing that he had been falling for almost a minute now, he closed his eyes and chose to believe in Delta.
At that moment, he realized that his speed was getting slower and slower until he felt something concrete underneath. He was falling head first, but he landed with his feet. The next second, he opened his eyes, and a castle grander than the Herish kingdom’s was present in his eyes.
"What really is this place?" He asked, amazed.
Then he noticed that clouds were still surrounding the background, and he went towards the end of the concrete platform to confirm his suspicion.
’This is still above the sky,’ he thought.
Afterwards, he heard a delicate voice not far from him.
"Watch out; you won’t like it when you fall in there," said a woman who was walking down from the stairs of the castle.
The prince lost all the thoughts circling in his mind as soon as he turned around and saw the woman. She was wearing a white dress with a touch of green, which aligned perfectly with the castle’s exterior design. Her black hair with greenish strands and highlights gave her an ethereal appearance.
Lexzi was about to speak when Delta landed in front of him.
"I greet this world’s sovereign," he said before kneeling.
’Sovereign?" The prince uttered, and he imitated what the ex-captain did before glancing at the woman’s face.
He blushed and looked down as she caught him stealing a glimpse of her.
’My chest keeps beating so fast,’ he thought.
Then the woman took another step and said. "Rise up! I’m not worthy of such respect,’
The moment Delta heard her command, he stood up and smiled.
"You haven’t changed since then," he voiced out, which made the woman blink several times.
"Same as you, you’re still the young foolish child in my eyes," the woman giggled and patted Delta’s head.
Lexzi wanted to ask about their past, but he knew that it was not the right time to indulge his curiosity. Then the woman walked towards him and looked into his eyes, which made his face burn hotter.
"I hope you didn’t find the way of getting here troublesome," she exclaimed.
"N-Not really! Actually, it amazes me." The prince shook his head and answered, stuttering.
The woman chuckled before she went back up the stairs. Upon reaching the middle, she started to speak, and the two people listened well to her words.
"This place lies between reality and fantasy," she paused.
"A place where imaginations overshadow the truth regarding existence and facts that leash the world are deemed pointless and useless," she added as she made another step upward.
"Welcome to my sanctuary, human!" She said after reaching the top of the stairs.
Her eyes were glowing a lime green color, with clover-shaped pupils radiating a deep black hue.
. . . . .
’I need to escape here! Alisteine is dead!’ A man puffing smoke thought. He was hiding behind an alley while watching how his subordinates died one after the other.
"Where is that man from? He ruined everything!" He uttered in silence, annoyed as their plan crumbled just because of a single variance.
Then he ran away from the scene, leaving his comrade behind, who was dealing with the attacks of the silver-haired demon.
"Your friend already left," Zeno said as he glanced in the direction of the man who fled.
"Shut up!" His opponent yelled before swinging his sword against Zeno one more time.
Blood was flowing down all over his body, but despite all of these damages, he still managed to stand and fight. However, Zeno parried the blade with ease. The expression on his face spelled boredom. He was not expecting much from a group of bandits, and the man in front of him had nothing to show aside from his tenacity and courage.
"Maybe choose your friends wisely in your next life," he added, then struck down his scythe.
The man lifted his sword above his head to block the incoming attack; however, it broke upon receiving a direct blow from the silver-haired man, and he was cut in half.
"If reincarnation is a real thing," he said, contemplating if he would chase down the man’s companion, but he chose to ignore it and proceed to go back to the ruined castle.
After almost a minute, he arrived at the location, and the first thing he saw was the black-haired vampire staring somewhere, deep in his thoughts. He walked towards him, and upon feeling his presence, Lux gazed on him.
"Where’s the dark elf?" He asked.
Zeno raised his left hand, pointed it to the right side of his neck, and moved it sideward.
"Do you want me to send you to him?" He replied with a question while smiling.
Lux stared at him with an expressionless face before speaking.
"I’m done here; I’m leaving," he said, then walked in the direction where the demon was facing.
’Should I tease him a little?’ Zeno thought.
"Say hello to Cinn for me," he said.
However, the vampire didn’t halt his steps, and he continued to walk away.
"Now, that’s boring," Zeno sighed as he received no reaction from the man.
Then he let go of the idea and started to proceed with what he wanted to do.
’Eliana,’ he thought.
Using the Legacy, he surveyed the area filled with broken debris from the castle. He was searching for where the kingdom’s treasury was. Then, after a few seconds, he walked several steps and stomped the debris hard with his right foot. He repeated the process to destroy all of them until the broken concrete was pulverized into dust.
Soon after, the main ground came into his vision. Then he pulled out his black dice, which spun on his palm. The surface with three dots lit up, and a jet-black gauntlet appeared, covering his right hand.
He sat down, pulled his arm behind him, and punched the ground. His attack caused a heavy tremor, which soon diminished after a few seconds.
The next moment, a hole appeared in the concrete, but there was still a white platform beneath it. Zeno knitted his brows as soon as he saw what it was.
"This is made from dragon scales," he uttered while shaking his head.
"To think that humans can hunt dragons now," he added.
Then he smiled and prepared to punch one more time.
"Now, I won’t be surprised if sooner or later, they will rule this world," he said as he smashed his fist with all his might into the surface made of dragon scales.
This time, he used Jack’s Legacy, and his punch was strong enough to send vibrations into the Plain of Fantasies and some parts of the Mountain Range of Phantasms.
Meanwhile, Shieldscape City trembled, being the center of the attack; houses shook, and the people hiding inside started to move out. Then those buildings that were not strong enough to handle the extreme shaking of the ground fell and crumbled into dust.
The quake lasted for several minutes and destroyed almost the whole city. The casualties were greater than the number of people who died during the bandits’ invasion.
This incident would be remembered as ’Rumbling of A Giant’ and the main reason why this happened would remain a mystery throughout the course of history.
