The Demon King's First General -
Chapter 199: Terrifying Existence
Chapter 199: Terrifying Existence
Djaleryse stared for a second at the silver-haired demon. Their task was already done, and all they needed to do now was flee from the soul devourer.
For that to happen, she needed to create a diversion. However, upon glancing above, she noticed the traitor looking at them, blocking their escape route.
’We can’t take the air,’ Djaleryse commented inside her thoughts.
"Do I really have no other choice?" She pondered.
"Surrender your soul or die resisting; I allow only two options," Zeno stated upon hearing the woman’s contemplation.
"But I prefer the latter; it gives me a sense of accomplishment," he added.
The smile on his face made his looks a hundred times better, but deep beneath that upward curl was a savage beast waiting to lunge at its prey.
"I’m sorry, but I chose neither of those two," Djaleryse replied.
Then, with a wave of her hand, monsters emerged in front of her.
"I’ll escape with my life still intact in my body," she added.
Meanwhile, Zeno looked at the monsters and shook his head in disappointment.
"Only three? You need more than that if you want to leave alive," he said without averting his gaze from the creatures.
With an iron club in both of its hands, a monster with green-colored skin and a huge body stood in the middle of the three summoned beings.
On its left was a massive black creature with a similarity to a dragon, its golden eyes glaring at the demon. While on the other side, a monster with reddish skin and two long tusks protruding from its mouth stood with a massive broadsword in its hand.
"A goblin lord, a drake, and an orc warlord. I expected more than this. Why don’t you bring out the parade of monsters I saw last time?" Zeno stated as the smile on his face vanished due to disappointment.
Djaleryse didn’t let her thoughts be corrupted by the demon’s provocation. Instead, she focused on thinking of a plan on how to disappear from the general’s sight.
"Celestine," she whispered with the intention to call her companion’s attention.
"Celestine! Wake up!" she repeated when she received no response.
Afterward, she glanced at her, but she was still shivering in fear, beads of sweat rolling down her forehead while her eyes were still fixated on the demon.
’Tss, it’s no use; she’s completely ruined,’ she commented in her thoughts.
Then, giving her summons a signal, they began to lunge forward to attack the silver-haired demon, three against one right from the start.
However, the goblin lord fell flat on the ground even before reaching the demon as the black dice pierced towards its forehead, leaving a small hole where blood oozed out.
In a single casual flick, the monster died, causing Djaleryse to be dumbfounded. Though it was the weakest out of the three, to kill it in a second was a feat she never expected.
’But the goblin lord is a lot stronger than the cerberus; does that mean he’s been playing with me since that time?’ She thought, her eyes staring at the monster’s corpse.
Afterward, she was pulled away from her contemplation when she heard the drake’s screeches while the orc was screaming in pain as well. When she lifted her gaze, two headless creatures came into her sight.
"Your Legacy has a very nice concept, but it has one major flaw. The monsters you control lost their ability to sense danger; they attack without considering their defenses. They focus on your given order, which is to kill, so they throw away all other things," Zeno stated, explaining the downside of Djaleryse’s ability.
Then he swung his scythe again, and the two creatures’ bodies were cut in half before falling on the ground.
"Even the cerberus back then, it kept on attacking despite being badly injured," he said and looked at the woman.
"If you have any tricks up your sleeves, please proceed to do so; I’m starting to lose my patience," he added, his voice cold and domineering.
However, in contrast of his statement, Djaleryse’s laughter reverberated in the area, and then she swept aside her hair that was covering her other eye, making it exposed.
"You’re right regarding that aspect; it’s time to take things in a very serious manner," she said.
The soul devourer furrowed his brow upon seeing her left eye. It had the same bluish tone as the right one, but its hue was slightly different, and instead of taking a round shape, its pupil had a vertical slit.
"That eye seems familiar; if I’m not mistaken, that was Cinhard’s," Zeno uttered.
Djaleryse didn’t answer; she kept her silence as she raised her hand, and another monster emerged in front of her.
A creature with bluish skin let out a sky-shattering roar. Its mouth was covered with long tentacles, while on its hand was a massive hammer tall enough to match its towering height.
Its appearance was like a monster fresh from the depths of the ocean. It was enough to evoke fear and madness in every being that could witness its terrifying existence. The malevolent presence it emitted made the plants and trees decay, turning a major part of the forest dead for no reason.
With its large, bulging eyes, it glared at the soul devourer standing in front of it. As a response, Zeno stared straight at it for a second before a wide smile protruded on his lips.
"It’s my first time seeing this kind of being; it’s magnificent," he stated.
Then, he swirled the scythe in his hand and diverted his gaze back to the tamer.
"For you to possess something I don’t have any knowledge about, I commend you for that," Zeno added.
Upon hearing his remark, Djaleryse let out a wide grin reaching all over her ears.
"That’s a cthulhu for your reference. I don’t want you to die not knowing what kind of creature will kill you," the woman said.
Then she took a step forward and continued explaining further.
"That living being is one of the professor’s discoveries. I don’t know if he found it somewhere or created it himself, but one thing is for sure: it’s an existence pretty hard to control." She paused and touched her left eye before continuing. "If not for the Demon King’s eye, I wouldn’t be able to tame it."
"I have no memory of Cinhard having that kind of ability," Zeno replied.
"Indeed, but for my Legacy to work, I need to assert dominance, and it kind of sucks being a human, but everything changed when I got hold of this eye; a single glance is enough to form a pact with a creature a lot stronger than me," Djaleryse explained.
Zeno nodded after hearing the answer, then he moved his gaze towards the creature.
’I’m sure she’ll love having this thing in her collection, but too bad, it’s going to die right now,’ he thought.
Then he dashed forward and went straight at the monster. As soon as he diminished the distance between them, he leaped upward and aimed his scythe at its neck.
The cthulhu was a lot taller than him, so he needed to jump to reach its neck. However, unlike the previous monsters, it raised its giant hammer and blocked the scythe’s trajectory.
Afterward, the tentacles on its chin moved forward, trying to take hold of the demon’s body.
Meanwhile, Djaleryse looked at Celestine, and upon seeing her still affected by fear, she slapped her without an ounce of hesitation. The Enchantress of Time widened her eyes in shock and gave her companion a glance.
"Djaleryse?" She whispered while touching her reddened cheek, unaware of what’s happening around her.
"Finally, you’re awake! Let’s go! We must escape while he’s still occupied!" Djaleryse exclaimed in a hurry.
Celestine stared at her for a second and noticed blood dripping out from her left eye, but after an explosion loud enough to make her look in front, their current situation sunk in her mind.
"L-Let’s go," she stuttered.
She put her umbrella above their heads, and as soon as it closed, they vanished into thin air. Afterward, the umbrella flew upward, but the black dragon gave it a smack, sending it back on the ground.
"No one is leaving without the general’s permission!" Blackwell sneered as it stared at the thing.
Due to his intervention, Celestine was forced to leap out of her umbrella and look at the massive creature.
"Damn you, traitor!" She cussed.
Then everything around her turned gray in color as she unleashed her Legacy. The leaves drifting on the wind stopped from falling, and the black dragon above remained motionless as well when time started to freeze.
However, it lasted for only a second when her domain retracted all of a sudden. Celestine’s eyes widened in surprise; she tried activating her Legacy one more time, but she received no reaction.
Thus, she glanced at the only possible reason she could think of for this failure. From a short distance, she saw the soul devourer glance at her and smile while fighting the cthulhu.
"The fun is far from over, yet you guys are in a hurry to leave," Zeno said.
