The Demon King's First General
Chapter 148: Red Spider Lily

Chapter 148: Red Spider Lily

The group of three people continued towards their path ahead; Sinclair was in the front, leading the way. Several men clad in black leather armor tried to hinder their movements, but an ice needle struck them at their heads, even before they could make a move.

"After passing through this forest, there will be a small lake, and the facility is next to it," Sinclair informed her companions about their current location.

The soul devourer showed no response; his eyes were focused on the front, but it was not the same for the revenant.

"It’s quite unusual," Ruq declared, which captured the two’s attention.

"They keep on sending these flies even though I’m confident that they know how strong we are," she added, flicking another ice needle on her left side.

It was soon followed by the sound of someone falling from a tree branch.

"Yes, they are fully aware of this fact. These minions were nothing but a simple token of greeting," Zeno stated.

Then, after he looked up, he spoke once more.

"And here comes the real deal," he added, smirking.

The three of them halted on their steps and leaped backward after something fell on their previous location. The sudden fall created a shockwave that shook the forest.

Leaves drifted in the wind, and a small crater appeared on the open ground.

"Intruders? Along with Subject Number Nine Hundred Twelve. What an unexpected development? A runaway failure dares to return," a loud voice echoed throughout the darkness.

It was soon followed by an eerie laughter.

"Fools!" The same voice exclaimed, yelling.

Afterward, the man walked out of the crater, and the dim light coming from the moon shone upon him. Scars from blademarks covered the entirety of his face. This made him look a menace.

On his right hand, he held a greatsword, which suited his giant physique. He raised it above and licked the edge of his blade.

"Please, give me a good fight," he stated, then charged towards the three people.

The greatsword left a deep mark on the ground as he pulled it behind him. The subject of his focus was none other than Sinclair.

As a response, the Apostle of Justice pulled out her weapon and raised it above her chest, ready to clash against the man. However, the silver-haired demon stepped forward and gently pushed her and Ruq to the side.

"This one is mine," Zeno said, and the man’s laughter reverberated once more.

"I don’t care who wants to come first; all of you will be dead anyway!" He exclaimed.

Then the man leaped above and swung the greatsword in a downward motion. A turbulent wave of crescent black energy was hurled towards Zeno, but he remained calm while staring at the incoming attack. He shook his head and raised his right hand during the process.

Several seconds before the collision, the silver-haired demon smirked, then he stopped the black crescent energy with his right hand, and the moment he clenched his fist, it shattered into pieces before dispersing into thin air.

The next second, he looked at the man staring back at him with a vicious smile.

"Heh, now what? Do you think you’re someone great for blocking an attack like that?" The man asked, belittling the demon.

"Why not try something heavier?" He added, laughing afterwards.

Then he raised the greatsword once again, and black energy started to cloak his weapon. Its length began to increase, and he still kept on channeling his energy.

"You must be honored to witness my ultim-" He was busy chattering when the silver-haired man appeared right before his eyes with his right elbow bent backwards.

His entire hand was covered with a jet black gauntlet.

"If not for your Legacy, I wouldn’t even glance at you," Zeno said before pushing his fist forward towards the man’s face.

The man failed to react and was sent back to the forest. He slammed and broke tree after tree before stopping a hundred meters away, digging the ground during the process.

"W-What w-was-" He stuttered, trying to speak.

He was confused about the demon’s strength. All of his teeth were now broken, and his face was unrecognizable. He wanted to stand up, but his body trembled at the thought of facing the demon once more.

Just one punch, and he was beaten to a pulp. He tried to look where the demon was, but he found it difficult to open his eyes. His cheeks and eyelids were swollen, and even his nose was flattened beyond recognition.

Then after, he felt a sharp pain in his chest, and blood flowed out of his mouth. His body twitched for a second, and he lost his life without even knowing that it was his very own weapon that struck him.

At the same time, the silver-haired demon went down and gestured at the two women to continue moving.

"Why are the most interesting Legacies owned by fools?" He uttered while his gaze was up in the sky.

Ruq let out a chuckle and smiled after understanding what he wanted to convey, while Sinclair just shrugged it off as if she didn’t hear a thing.

. . . . .

A few moments ago, inside the castle of Duskstalker Kingdom, a man wearing a dark brown cape that had a feather-like design pushed open the giant door leading to a certain room with nothing but darkness. His serpentine eyes glowed with a purple hue as he stared at the silhouette sitting next to the window.

"Forgive my sudden intrusion, but he is here," he said with the most pleasing tone he could muster.

"I know," the person answered, then raised his hand and grabbed the glass filled with dark red liquid before putting it next to his nose.

He swirled and smelled it before taking a sip.

"Strannard," he uttered.

"Yes, High Venerable," Strannard answered, a wide smile appearing on his face upon the mention of his name.

"Are the black legion ready to mobilize?" The silhoutte replied with a question as he stared at the moon outside the window.

"They’re just waiting for your orders," Strannard communicated; excitement was evident on his face.

"Is that so? Then let’s proceed," the silhoutte said.

The next second, he emptied his glass and stood up before walking a little closer towards the window. The radiance from the moon shone on him; it was still dim but was just enough for Strannard to see the crimson-black eyes piercing its gaze towards the sky.

"Consider it done," Strannard declared, then he turned around and was about to leave the room when he heard the man’s voice once again.

"You can stay and welcome him here if you want," he said.

Strannard resumed his steps, but after grabbing the door handle, he looked back and smiled.

"Thank you," he stated, and his laughter reverberated in the corridor as soon as he left the room.

. . . . .

Tranquil water, without a single ripple, projected a calm night with the moon along with several stars shining across the sky.

Zeno and his companions arrived at this wonderful scene. The two women sauntered towards the lake shore, and they were mesmerized by its beauty.

"Who would expect that something like this beautiful would be next to an awful, dreadful place?" Sinclair mumbled as she sat down and stared at her own reflection.

Her calm blue eyes and long pink hair were exactly the same as she remembered them during the war, though this time the strands of her hair were not tainted with blood.

As she continued to stare at the image on the water, she fell into a deep thought.

’Did I die and be brought back to life, or did I really survive back then?’ She contemplated.

The blade piercing through her neck was still vivid in her memory, as was the cry of her comrades upon seeing her defeated.

’I need to find out what happened after that,’ she thought.

Then the calm water slowly turned frozen, along with her reflection. She raised her head and saw the revenant standing on the surface in the middle of the lake.

Sinclair clicked her tongue and stood up. Then her eyes searched for where the silver-haired demon was, and upon seeing him walking near the lake shore, she decided to approach him.

"We’re almost there. What’s the plan?" Sinclair asked as soon as she closed the distance between them.

The demon glanced at her for a second and returned his gaze towards the plants near the shore before answering.

"What plan? Is a plan still needed to tear down that place?" He asked without a change in his expression.

Sinclair kept her silence upon hearing the demon’s reply, but she still followed behind him. Then, after several steps, the demon stopped and leaned forward before plucking something on the ground.

Confused by his actions, Sinclair stepped a little closer until she saw the flower on Zeno’s hand. It had long petals that looked like spider legs, and its bloodlike color stood out from the surroundings.

"Red spider lily?" Sinclair mumbled.
