The Demon King's First General -
Chapter 138: Brave Fool
Chapter 138: Brave Fool
"Endelle?" Sherise uttered; her voice was in disbelief, and her hand was covering her mouth.
In her eyes, there was a reflection of a being whom they thought was all a myth. An entity with five pairs of wings floating in the sky, and it was none other than her guardian knight.
Lightning continued to swirl around Endelle’s body, along with the thick crimson energy that acted like a force field.
"H-How can it be?" Sherise stuttered; she couldn’t believe it at all.
"Everyone! Evacuate the arena!" She ordered, and upon her command, all the angels stood up and ran away; even Kizeler, who wanted to stay, was moved by the angels into the exit.
Endelle’s transformation earlier was already beyond Sherise’s expectations, and now an even more shocking thing had occurred right before her eyes.
They experienced countless wars before, yet not a single angel managed to grow five pairs of wings, and now her guardian knight, who lived his whole life in peace, had attained such strength. It was definitely good news; however, Endelle was not the man she knew anymore. After accepting that kind of power, he went astray, and death was the only way out for him. Her thoughts were in turmoil, but a sudden rise of energy below made her recover.
She moved her gaze down, and the moment her eyes caught Zeno’s silhouette, a smile flashed on her lips.
"It looks like I’ll be able to witness him go all out once again," she uttered while staring at the red dice spinning while hanging on Zeno’s left ear.
. . . . .
Zeno looked at Endelle, and a wide grin was pasted on his face.
"One, two, three, four. Great! A total of ten. The strongest angel was born." He paused and laughed for a second before continuing.
"Though not an angel exactly," he giggled.
Afterward, he tossed the black dice in front of him, and it transformed into a jet-black scythe. The next second, the red dice on his left ear started to spin, and the moment it stopped, the surface with six white skulls emanated a bright light.
"Oh, the odds are with me this time; then there is no need to hesitate; this will be fun," Zeno mumbled.
Afterward, his appearance returned to its original state; the previously black hair turned silver, and the eyes were now back to their dull and lifeless state.
Then, with a light tap of his foot on the ground, he propelled upward.
"Don’t hold back! Satisfy me at the very least!" Zeno yelled and readied his scythe to cut his opponent.
"Pathetic! You’re not even qualified to come near me," Endelle replied after noticing Zeno.
The strands of lightning around him grew thicker, and they were shot towards the incoming demon.
’Guide me, Eliana,’ Zeno thought upon seeing the angel’s attack.
In the second, Eliana’s name appeared on his wrist; a white circular line emerged from himself, and then it grew bigger, covering the whole field.
Afterward, all the motions inside the area of effect, even each lightning’s trajectory, were sent to Zeno’s mind. He parried and destroyed those that would hit him and ignored the ones that would not cause him even a scratch.
Meanwhile, after seeing his attack fail, Endelle clicked his tongue, grabbed a piece of lightning beside him, and plunged downward to confront Zeno.
Both of their weapons collided; the lightning that turned into a spear emanated thousands of bolts of electricity towards Zeno, yet the demon faced it head-on.
"Now, your lightning tickles, unlike before," Zeno mocked Endelle.
His words were enough to make the angel’s brows furrowed.
"Insolence!" Endelle yelled and exerted more strength to push the demon away.
Zeno didn’t fight and chose to tumble upward. Upon falling down, the scythe on his hand was nowhere to be seen, and a jet-black bow loaded with an arrow was positioned on his arm instead.
"Please evade; I don’t want this fight to end so soon," Zeno said, and before letting go of the arrow’s tail, he whispered, "Jack."
The projectile was launched with such incredible speed and strength that it destroyed a part of the arena. It happened in a blink; even the ten-winged angel was surprised by what Zeno did.
’What kind of power?’ Endelle thought as he looked back to observe the damage of that one attack.
It just took the demon less than a second to blow up the place, and if he was not fast enough to move sideward, his demise was guaranteed.
’Can I produce such a projectile?’ He asked himself but soon disregarded the idea.
It was not his style to focus all of his power on a concentrated attack.
Then, he was about to look at the demon when a fist covered with a jet-black gauntlet was slammed hard on his face. The protective shield made of crimson energy was shattered, and he was sent tumbling several meters away.
"Hey, who told you to move your eyes away from me?" Zeno stated.
A purple blemish was left on Endelle’s face, and his jaw was dislocated, but he snapped it back to its place and glared at the demon.
"Such a coward for sneaking an attack like that," he said, but Zeno just laughed and ran towards him.
Then, on that very second, Endelle realized something.
’My Legacy? Why didn’t it work?’ He thought as he prepared to parry the demon’s attack.
"That reaction definitely spelled curiousity," Zeno mentioned upon closing the distance between them.
Afterward, he swung his right fist, aiming for Endelle’s face once more, but one of the angel’s left wings moved in front to cover him from the punch.
As Endelle braced himself while waiting for the impact, he felt two sharp weapons pierce him from behind.
"What are you blocking in there? I’m here." Zeno whiffled in the angel’s ear.
Then Endelle tried to counterattack using his right elbow; he even covered it with lightning, but he struck nothing as the demon was already away from him.
Endelle turned around to face Zeno, and now he was sure about it. Upon seeing that there were no other wounds aside from the holes in the demon’s chest, he was convinced.
’My Legacy is not working,’ he concluded from his thoughts.
Meanwhile, on the other side, the smile on Zeno’s face was not fading, he juggled the daggers on both of his hands.
Three lines of names could be seen written in red capital letters on his right wrist. The first one was Eliana, followed by the King of Giants’ name, and then a name that appeared for the second time after waking up from his seal.
A name that was supposed to be forgotten by the world.
. . . . .
Thousands of years before the current timeline, at the highest peak of the Mountain Range of Phantasms, there were two people sitting side by side on a cliff.
One of them had the appearance of an old human; he had a beard that was long enough to past his chest; his brows were white; and his hair was tied in a bun.
Wrinkles were present on his tired face, and there was a look in his eyes that was resolute and unswerving.
"I’m done studying the souls," the old man said, opening his mouth and starting a conversation.
The young silver-haired man who was sitting next to him laid down on his back and used his arms as a cushion.
"So, what’s your plan starting now?" He replied with a question as his sight pierced the sky.
"I don’t know," the old man answered with a sigh.
"To be honest, after traveling all my life, I want to rest," he continued while stroking his beard.
"How about you?" The old man returned the question to the young man.
"Waiting for you to die, I guess," the man chuckled.
And the old man laughed as well upon hearing his reply.
Then a few seconds of silence came before the old man started to speak again.
"Actually, there’s no need to wait. I finished what I wanted to do, so please, make good use of my Legacy," the man said as he looked back and smiled.
This made the young man glance at him for a second, then his gaze reverted back to the sky.
With a soft whisper, he stated. "What a brave fool."
. . . . .
"The Soul Seeking Sage, Leodegario. The human who embarked on a journey to roam the world with the purpose of studying the soul to greatly understand each individual’s Legacies. Even the prideful elves showed hospitality to him and asked his guidance for some point," Sherise uttered upon noticing the energy fluctuations inside the arena.
"A domain-type Legacy that cancels the effects of all Legacy inside the affected area. A very perfect counter against those who rely too much on their Legacies," the deity paused and tried to observe the domain, which was not visible to the naked eye.
"It’s a perfect ability but a shackle for soul devourers whose strength lies in using others’ Legacies. Yet for him to use it to such an extent. How commendable!" Sherise exclaimed.
