The Demon King's First General -
Chapter 136: Damage Link
Chapter 136: Damage Link
Aside from different creatures that existed and lived on the surface of Exgreia, there were beings that never set foot in the land in the span of several millenia up to this very day.
Angels, the beings that protected deities and served them for the rest of their lives. They were different from the Fallen who did the dirty work for the deities.
Known for their extreme loyalty and massive faith in their master, they were referred to as the Chosen Servants. They could wield divine powers as they pleased as long as their deity granted them permission, the most effective tool to vanquish evil presence.
In terms of strength, an angel’s overall capability could be determined by the number of their wings. Those who had two pairs of wings were referred to as archangels, while those who had three pairs of wings were called principalities. However, it was impossible for a principality to grow another set of wings without a deity’s blessing, and this blessing could only be given to the most powerful one.
These angels with four pairs of wings would stand at the deities’ side as their right hand and guardian knight; they were called virtues.
Other than this, there was a myth about an angel with five sets of wings, a being that could threaten the deities’ authority; however, in the long history of this world, not a single one managed to; even those virtues who fought during the war against ancient demons couldn’t attain that kind of power.
. . . . .
Endelle’s swift movements left an afterimage that made the crowd gape in awe. The Guardian Knight of Kindness, known for his incredible speed and incredible control over lightning, was putting in a lot of effort to subdue a demon.
However, several moments had passed, yet his spear couldn’t pierce the silver-haired man dancing before him.
’Why can’t I land a hit?’ Endelle began to question himself.
His lightning had a mixture of divine energy; even a single graze would bleed the demon to despair, yet the demon was evading with the most minimal action possible.
Irritated by this fact, Endelle started to run, circling around Zeno. Several afterimages of him appeared and thrust their spear forward, leaving no gap for the demon to evade.
’Got you!’ Endelle thought.
However, he pierced nothing but air, and the demon disappeared right before his eyes.
"What!?" He exclaimed before looking up above.
But at that very moment, he heard a whisper that sent him chills.
"Close call," Zeno uttered, close to the angel’s ear.
Endelle swung his spear backward, but the demon caught it with his right hand. The electrocuting sparks of electricity crawled towards Zeno’s hand, but the black glove he wore absorbed the divine lightning, leaving him unscathed.
Zeno’s lips curled upward upon noticing the sudden phenomenon, while Endelle’s eyes widened in surprise. He took his spear away and distanced himself from the demon.
’My divine lightning... It should burn demons the moment it touches them, but how?! That item sucked it up!’ Endelle couldn’t help but wonder.
On the other hand, Zeno was grinning while staring at the black glove with flickering sparks of lightning all around it.
"For that bastard’s item to have this kind of special usage, it truly amazes me," he uttered in deep satisfaction.
The next second, he reverted his eyes towards the guardian knight.
"It looks like you’ll be at a disadvantage; are you fine with it?" Zeno teased his opponent.
If staring could kill, Zeno would be done by now. Endelle’s cold, irritated gaze struck the demon’s body as if he were looking at his soul.
"Hey, your eyes right now are not befitting of an angel; are you aware of that?" Zeno asked, still wearing the annoying smile on his face.
"Silence! Imbecile!" Endelle shouted, then he dashed towards the demon.
His movement left burned marks on the arena. Upon reaching a certain distance, enough for him to thrust his spear, a ball of divine lightning materialized at his weapon’s tip. This time, the strength of his attack was enough to pulverize any evil.
A loud explosion due to the sudden burst of divine lightning made the vicinity tremble. Smoke arose into the air, but as soon as it dissipated, a giant jet-black shield with dots on its four corners appeared.
Then the dice in its center spun, and the weapon vanished, revealing the demon smiling, unscathed from the explosion. Endelle was dumbfounded by this scene. He didn’t expect the man before him to be this formidable.
"I’m starting to get bored; shall we finish this already?" Zeno conveyed.
Then, aside from Eliana’s name written on his wrist, two new names appeared. One was Chrysantheum, and the other was a name he called for the very first time.
’Tiara,’ he thought.
Dark clouds gathered above the open field, and heavy thunder rolled. Afterward, black lightning descended and struck Zeno, and then black spikes with flickering sparks of electricity protruded towards the angel.
"For a mere demon to harness this strength!" Endelle’s frustrated voice reverberated.
Then four pairs of wings sprouted on his back; they started to flap, raising him above.
On the other hand, the demon stood on his opposite end; black lightning clad his entire body; the floating dice in front of him were nowhere to be seen; instead, a jet-black sycthe with five dots on the edge of its blade was hanging on his shoulder.
Two small black dots could be seen below his right eye. His silver-colored hair and his dull looking eyes turned black. Then he pointed his finger towards the entity flying beneath the dark clouds.
Black lightning was shot upward in less than a second, though Endelle managed to react. He waved his spear with the intention of deflecting it, but it passed through his weapon and pierced his chest.
"What!" Endelle exclaimed.
It was a direct hit, yet he felt nothing. He swung his weapon and even tried to grab the black lightning with his bare hand to severe it, but he couldn’t even feel it from his grasp. It was like some sort of chain that linked the two individuals.
Endelle looked at Zeno, who was grinning all the time. He didn’t know what the purpose of the thing that was attached to the two of them was, but he was sure that it wouldn’t bring him good news.
The next second, the demon swirled the scythe around him, then bent his knees.
"Brace yourself; this will be a messy ride," Zeno smirked and vanished from everyone’s sight.
. . . . .
A moment ago, the angels watching the duel were discussing Zeno’s weapon. Despite the fact that a demon was wielding it, they couldn’t help but admire its uniqueness and durability.
It deflected the spear coated with divine lightning several times and could even protect its owner from a powerful explosion of divine power. Those reasons were enough for them to have an interest in such a weapon.
"For that.... to withstand a divine attack," one of the angels in the crowd stated.
"How odd! A weapon that changes its shape—how is that even possible?" Added another.
Kizeler was listening to these kinds of conversations without averting his eyes from the open field. Then a sudden memory from the night before yesterday ran through his mind. He remembered the sword covered with chains.
’From all of Zeno’s battles, he never used that one,’ he wondered.
Even the deity who was leaning on her seat was thinking about the same thing.
"Sixfold Arsenal, the weapon with different faces and characteristics: the Bow of Accuracy, Scythe of Perception, Shield of Endurance, Gauntlets of Strength, Twin Daggers of Haste, and that blade that ignores logic and reality," Sherise uttered to herself.
’Yet despite having these things, he’s still not the strongest demon out there,’ she sighed, returning her focus to the battle.
Then, the sudden gathering of dark clouds caught everyone’s attention. They watched the scene unfold; they were not the ones fighting in the field, but the heavy atmosphere and immense pressure coming from the demon made their breathing heavy and rough.
. . . . .
Endelle raised his spear to block the scythe’s blade from coming straight to his neck. The force of the attack caused his arms to tremble.
He tried to counterattack, but he felt a sudden pain in his back. Blood dyed his wings red, and the burning sensation from the lightning caused him to turn around while gritting his teeth. Then he felt another stab at the back, and it was more painful than before.
He was puzzled by this scene because the demon was already on the ground, checking the blood from his own wounds, inflicted by his Legacy. Yet, for an unknown reason, Endelle received another injury.
"Hmnn, this is interesting." Zeno’s laughter brought irritation to Endelle.
The angel was stabbed in the back, but because of his Legacy, the damage inflicted on him was dealt to the attacker, and it was several times stronger than what he received; however, Tiara’s Legacy was perfect to counter this unique trait.
Damage Link, a Legacy of the woman whom Zeno encountered in Shieldscape City. It allowed him to share his wounds with the target.
"What did you do?" Endelle asked, curious how he received another stab.
Zeno looked at him and laughed.
"Listen, try to figure it out before losing your breath, or your soul will be a great addition to my collection," he replied, then the scythe on his hand was replaced by daggers.
The next second, he vanished once more and appeared in front of Endelle; the twin daggers were now a pair of jet-black gauntlets, covering his fist.
With a loud bang, Endelle received a heavy punch on the face. He was sent to the ground, creating a giant crater. Then, Zeno got the same treatment; he was thrown on the ground as well. His face was swollen due to the enhanced strength of his attack, but the evil grin on the corners of his mouth was still present on his disheveled face.
’What was the last time I received a punch? I couldn’t remember at all,’ he thought.
However, Endelle’s situation was far worse; blood was flowing from a crack in his head, his eyebrow was bleeding, and several teeth fell from his mouth.
Zeno stood up, looked at his opponent, and the curls on his lips disappeared.
"Only a punch, and you were reduced to this," he said, mocking Endelle.
Then he looked at where Sherise was sitting and opened his mouth again.
"I thought you were preparing for a war against those ruthless bastards, yet after seeing your guardian knight, it felt like you’re just asking for carnage," Zeno stated.
