The Demon King's First General
Chapter 135: Affair of Honor

Chapter 135: Affair of Honor

"Your Grace!" Angels standing in a corner raised their respective weapons.

They rushed in in an instant upon seeing the scythe hanging near the deity’s neck.

"All of you, halt on your tracks!" Sherise’s order reverberated inside the hall, making the angels freeze on the spot.

"But Your Grace, that demon!" One of the angels shouted, but the deity ignored his call.

On the other hand, Kizeler was so shocked by the sudden development. He was so busy tasting each food earlier that he didn’t pay attention to Zeno and Sherise’s conversation.

"W-What happened?" He asked as he placed the lobster as gently as he could back on his plate.

He looked at the angels, ready to attack Zeno at any point in time. They were glaring at the demon, enough to send chills down Kizeler’s spine.

’This pressure, this atmosphere,’ Kizeler thought while watching the things unfold in front of his eyes.

Meanwhile, the deity tried to push the scythe’s blade away from her neck, but the demon’s grip was too strong for her to do so.

"I’m just here trying to warn you," Sherise said as she gave up pushing the weapon.

"And your warning is not necessary," Zeno replied.

"But the people aiming for her life right now are not easy to deal with," Sherise argued.

Upon hearing this, Zeno put on a smile and retracted the scythe.

"What are their objectives?" He asked while fidgeting with the black dice around his fingers.

Sherise took a deep breath and stared at the demon before answering.

"Her soul," she said.

The demon frowned and stopped for a second. From the very beginning, it was him who knew that Uoiea’s soul had a very unique trait, yet aside from its unimaginable purity, he knew nothing about it.

"Does her soul have something to do with the underworld?" Zeno asked, but the deity shook her head in an instance.

"Someone yearns to possess her soul; I don’t know his intentions, but..." Sherise paused for a moment and looked straight into Zeno’s eyes before continuing. "He has the strength to do so."

Zeno kept his silence for a few seconds, then let out a smile, which confused Sherise.

’Despite knowing the situation of his lover, he still can afford to smile; you really are something,’ she thought.

"It looks like you’re very familiar with that person; may I know who he is?" Zeno threw a question, but Sherise already expected it.

"I would like to apologize, I can’t disclose it at this moment," she replied with a calm tone.

’Now, how would you react? Would you threaten me to tell you who he is, or would you just let it go?’ she thought.

However, as she read Zeno’s mind, she failed to get the answer that she wanted.

"Hey Sherise, peeking inside someone’s thoughts without their consent is not a very nice approach for a deity," Zeno warned.

He was smiling, yet his dull-looking gaze made Sherise lower her head in surrender.

"Sorry," she whispered.

. . . . .

The angels seeing this scene felt anger; their grip on their weapon became stronger; if not for their deity’s order, they would attack that demon earlier, especially Endelle.

A black-haired man who was holding a golden spear had his eyes filled with disgust, yet he tried his best to suppress it.

’I can’t endure it anymore,’ he thought as he watched in silence, thinking about what was so special about the demon that his deity even chose to apologize for an insignificant matter.

The next second, his spear flew in the demon’s direction. It happened so fast that the rest of the angels failed to react.

However, the demon intercepted the spear by tossing the black dice, stopping its momentum. The other angels’ mouths were left wide open.

"Endelle!" Sherise yelled as soon as she rose from her seat and turned around.

"Forgive me, Your Grace, but I can’t fathom watching that a filthy demon is harassing you like this!" Endelle let his thoughts be known.

Another giant spear appeared on his right hand; he pointed it at the demon and spoke.

"You! I, the Guardian Knight of the Deity of Kindness, Endelle, challenge you to an affair of honor," he declared.

"Endelle! Stop this nonsense at once!" Sherise ordered, but Zeno standing up from his seat made her heart race faster.

"Then I, a filthy demon, gladly accept the challenge of the higher being," Zeno interjected with curls on the corners of his lips.

. . . . .

During ancient times, a forbidden kind of duel known as the Affair of Honor was quite popular in Exgreia. This was a fight between two individuals, showcasing their Legacies, powers, and mastery of their chosen weapons.

A fight so sacred that even deities and ancient demons chose not to interfere. A fight that wouldn’t end until one lost his breath.

And after all those millenia, this duel could now be witnessed once again.

. . . . .

Sherise sat at the highest point in an open field, where the affair of honor between Zeno and Endelle would take place. There was a huge golden square platform, perfect as a stage for the duel.

Thousands of angels surrounded the arena; among them was Kizeler, whose forehead was covered with sweat. He believed that Zeno wouldn’t lose, but upon knowing what an affair of honor was, he couldn’t help but worry.

"Endelle! Endelle!" The crowd cheered.

They were in a high spirit; they wanted the demon dead, especially after witnessing how he treated their deity.

"Endelle! Make him suffer for humiliating Her Grace!" One of the angels shouted.

"Do not give him a painless death!" Added another.

Kizeler gulped upon hearing the spectators.

’How could someone fight with this much pressure?’ He thought.

However, despite Kizeler’s worries, Zeno remained calm. His smile almost reached his ears, and this expression of his made his opponent even more disgusted.

"Let’s see if you can still manage to smile after I mop your face on the ground. I’ll make you suffer that the only thing you’ll think about is beg to end your pitiful life," Endelle stated, his voice trembling in anger.

Upon hearing his delusions, the demon’s laughter reverberated in the arena.

"Then please, try to do so!" Zeno exclaimed, and without further ado, he tossed the black dice in the air.

It spun, and the surface with five white dots glowed. As soon as it landed back in his palm, a jet-black scythe appeared on his hand. He swirled it around him and taunted his opponent to come.

"Let’s see what you’ve got," Zeno conveyed.

Upon seeing this, Endelle frowned, and with a speed so fast that he disappeared from everyone’s sight, he charged forward. Sparks of golden lightning covered his spear, and as soon as he closed the distance, he swung it in a sideward motion, aiming for the demon’s neck.

However, Zeno made a little step backward, which caused the attack to miss by an inch, but Endelle bombarded him with thrusts afterward.

Zeno had no choice but to leap a few meters away; however, the angel followed him and slammed the spear from above.

"Is that all you good at? Running?" Endelle provoked the demon.

By raising his scythe, Zeno blocked the spear and smiled.

"It’s called dodging," he replied.

Then he pushed the spear away and kicked the angel to the right side. However, instead of Endelle getting thrown away, it was Zeno who was sent flying.

’Only this much, but isn’t it quite interesting?’ Zeno thought, then he tumbled in mid-air before landing.

The next second, a full blast of lightning came to him, but with Eliana’s Legacy active, he parried it with his scythe’s blade towards the audience.

The angels dispersed upon noticing the lightning coming their way, but there were those who failed to react. Though they were saved, a golden magic barrier emerged in front of the angels, protecting them from the destructive force.

Back in the arena, Endelle was attacking Zeno nonstop, but despite the speed of his attacks, he couldn’t land even a single blow anywhere on the demon’s body. On the other hand, Zeno was only evading, blocking, and parrying each single strike of the spear.

"Are you planning to tire me out before you attack? Let me tell you, I can do this all day long," Endelle stated, but Zeno just smiled and kept his silence, which made Endelle more furious.

The next second, the sparks of lightning started to cover his body, enhancing his speed far more than before. This forced Zeno to change his weapon to twin jet-black daggers, but like earlier, all he did was evade.

. . . . .

Meanwhile, Sherise’s full attention was on the battle happening below her; she already knew who would emerge victorious, but she was still curious how it would be done.

’Endelle’s Legacy can return any physical damage dealt to him several times stronger than the original. It’s a pretty bad matchup for a fighter who relies on physical attacks,’ she thought with her eyes, not missing a single movement from the duel.

"But you’re not someone who will be done by just this petty ability. Now, show me what you would do to turn the tides, Manipulator of Souls," she whispered.
