The Demon King's First General -
Chapter 121: Bastard’s Power
Chapter 121: Bastard’s Power
On the outskirts of Heartfall Kingdom, there were two children lying on a grassland while looking over the moonless night sky.
Both of them had cuts and bruises all over their faces, though the other child was more noticeable due to the several earings from his ears.
"Hey, Rain," the child without piercings said out of nowhere, calling his friend’s attention.
Upon hearing him, Rain took a second to glance at him before reverting his sight to the endless clouds floating above.
"What is it?" He asked, his voice showing his lack of concern.
"Why did you not use your Legacy? Those hooligans would crumble to dust if you unleashed it?" The child questioned, curiosity written on his wounded face.
Rain remained silent; it took him a few more seconds before his voice escaped his mouth.
"They are not worthy to see such spectacle," he said.
"I really can’t understand you and you’re reasoning!" The other child retorted, annoyed upon hearing Rain’s answer. Then he stood up and looked at his friend.
"If I have that kind of power, I will put it to good use!" He stated while clenching his fist and putting it on his chest.
"I will even sacrifice myself for the people! A hero whose name will be known throughout Exgreia!" He added, smiling as he stared at his friend.
"That’s nonsense; being someone who values justice and saves people is boring," Rain replied, smirking.
Then he sat up and did a few stretches before standing.
"The top! The pinnacle of this world! The place where the Demon King is sitting! That’s the purpose of my Legacy!" He added, smiling.
The next second, he inhaled a deep breath and yelled; his voice echoed and broke the silence lingering in the place.
"I, Rain Panthemore, will be the ruler of the entire Exgreia," he said, his face filled with endless pleasure.
. . . . .
’That’s what I thought until I met Him... He showed me how weak I was and how my Legacy was nothing against absolute power,’ Rain thought.
Then, with the little strength he had left, he forced the muscles on his lips to smile.
"But you’re not Him... I have no reason to fear," he whispered while blood was dripping from the cracks on his lips.
Along with the rumbling noise of the pebbles floating around the crater, bluish energy and strands of darkness surrounded Rain.
The violent flow of energy swirled, producing waves after waves of blue-tinge blades that were enough to cut and slice everything on its path. The barren streets were destroyed, buildings collapsed, and the ground wouldn’t stop trembling. The next second, a beam of light was released from the man’s body; it was sent upward. Dark clouds began to gather and were soon followed by the rumbling of thunder.
"Don’t you dare blink, or you’ll miss it," Rain voiced out.
Then a monstrous neigh echoed across the sky, and in just a blink of an eye, a creature descended from above. With a crashing sound, it struck against the jet-black shield that materialized above Zeno’s head, protecting him from the impact.
The next second, a whistle was heard, and the creature zipped its way back to Rain’s side while the shield returned to a jet-black cube spinning in mid-air.
Zeno glared at the monster beside the intruder. Its body was made of nothing but flickers of blue lightning. The shape gave it the appearance of a horse with a crystal-like horn protruding from its head.
"You’ve got a nice pet. Too bad, I took fancy of it!" Zeno exclaimed, and the corner of his lips curled upward, showing his excitement.
Rain chuckled upon hearing the demon’s comment, though he didn’t reply; instead, he examined the monster at his side.
’It grew bigger...’ he thought, and amazement was present in his eyes.
"Anyway, I have the hunch, but..." He paused for a while and glanced at the silver-haired man, then he continued speaking.
"You’re the one who defeated Celestine and killed Alisteine, aren’t you?" He asked, then took a slow and deep breath afterward.
Zeno’s brows furrowed upon the mention of the name, and the smile on his lips disappeared.
"Hmnn, so you really are an acquaintance of those two?" He nodded while talking.
Then he raised his right hand, and the black dice landed on it. It was still spinning at the top of his glove when he spoke once more.
"Tell me. What are your objectives for finding the keys?" He asked.
Now, it was Rain who was caught off-guard by Zeno’s question. He didn’t expect that someone outside of their organization would question him regarding the keys. It took several seconds before words escaped his mouth.
"So you really knew about the keys," he said with a still-surprising expression.
Afterward, he lifted his hand and touched the creature beside him. The endless current of electricity crawled from his arm all the way to his body.
His clothes burst open, and he felt alive the second time around. Though his arms were still broken, he lessened this handicap with telekinesis, making them move at his own will.
This scene continued and lasted for a few more seconds. The flickering bolts of lightning surrounded Rain. He was so engrossed in electricity that even his eyes were now glowing blue.
Meanwhile, the horse-like creature started to dissipate as a crystal-like horn began to protrude from the man’s head. Then, on his left hand, all the way to his shoulder, a whip of thick lightning was coiling up like a snake.
Aside from these, the piercings also emitted the same type of energy, making them sharper and longer in size. They continued to revolve around Rain.
On the other hand, Zeno was staring at his opponent with a plain expression; the excitement he had earlier was nowhere to be seen on his face at this very moment.
"Only a fool would think that he can handle the consequences of opening the gate of the underworld," he murmured, and the black dice stopped spinning and landed on the surface with five dots facing above the sky.
As soon as the jet-black scythe appeared on the demon’s hand, he dashed in Rain’s direction to close the gap between them. However, Rain didn’t stand still. The piercings scattered and launched attacks on Zeno from all angles, faster than before.
The twelve projectiles were enough to make Zeno occupy. He deflected the others by swirling his scythe around him while he dodged a few of them. However, the attacks didn’t stop; as soon as they were parried away, they stopped and found their tracks back to the demon.
’Controlling a bunch with extreme precision at the same time... not bad,’ Zeno thought, grinning.
’Though this is still nothing noteworthy when compared to him,’ he added at the back of his mind.
"Ezreil," he whispered, and under the sleeve of his coat, the name he uttered appeared written in black capital letters.
Then the piercings stopped moving, and they all pointed towards the man clad in lightning in front of them.
"H-How?" Rain stuttered, dumbstruck by the scene before him.
"Don’t be too surprised; you’re not the only one who can use telekinesis," Zeno said as soon as he reached a meter away from the man.
Then he swung his scythe, but Rain managed to evade. He hopped several steps backward to maintain a distance from Zeno.
’Monster,’ he thought as he tried to regain his control over the piercings, but they didn’t even budge from their positions.
’It can’t be; I need to escape,’ he added.
As far as he remembered, he was the best telekinetic user in the entire Exgreia, which made him earn his name ’Grandeur Master.’ He killed and finished his opponent with style and didn’t even lift a single finger, but now, an existence he couldn’t fathom was standing right before his eyes.
’I’ll really die if I stay here,’ he thought once more.
Once again in his life, he felt afraid, like the first time he met their leader. Determined to escape, he turned around and was supposed to zip back to the castle to fetch his companion.
However, a strong force prevented him from doing so.
"Really? After seeing your toys suspended in mid-air, you expect that you can go as you please?" Zeno asked.
Then, in a single thought, Rain was pulled closer to him. The man tried to resist; he unleashed his remaining strength, but his resistance was futile; he failed to escape from the demon’s clutches.
Afterward, the horse-like creature moved out of Rain’s body and galloped towards Zeno, but he just sliced his scythe upward, cutting the monster in half. As it passed him, its split body attached to the other, but it lost its ability to move as the silver-haired demon suppressed it on the ground.
"Your Legacy can do more than this," Zeno said while looking straight at the man’s terrified expression.
Rain tried to speak and beg for his life, but he couldn’t even twitch his lips. The demon didn’t give him any freedom to say goodbye, and in just a blink of an eye, his body was torn apart as two invincible forces ripped him from both sides. Blood splattered, but not a single drop landed on Zeno’s coat.
Afterward, the golden piercings lost their blue brilliance and dropped one after the other as Zeno disabled Ezreil’s Curse.
Seconds later, he fell on his knees; his vision was getting blurry, and beads of sweat could be seen on his forehead. He extended his hand and leaned on the ground to prevent his body from falling. Then he coughed, and a mouthful of blood painted the cement.
’This backlash is really killing me. Until now, I can’t still freely use that bastard’s power,’ he thought.
Then he lifted his head and looked in the castle’s direction.
