Chapter 122: Advanced Trials!

There was no one there—no townspeople, no buildings. Just a huge circular altar surrounded by trees.

A giant stone pillar stood with carved writings on its surface, and on the very top sat a round, white gem. No one knew what it was for or what it meant.

"What is this place?" Aoi asked. Agares stayed silent, unable to answer.

Agares landed just outside the altar, stepping onto the grass. For some reason, every time he saw grass, it reminded him of the cruelty he had faced on the 82nd floor trial.

It almost took his life.

Aoi felt something was off about the altar. She jumped off Agares’s shoulder and waited for him outside the circle. Agares turned his head slightly, then looked straight ahead, eyes locked on the altar.

Swallowing hard, he stepped forward onto the stone floor of the altar to reach it.

At first, nothing felt unusual. But the more steps he took, the more he could sense a surge of energy coming from the altar.

"Akh!"

The back of Agares’s right hand began to warm up—no, burn—right where his saber mark was. He quickly took off his glove and checked the mark.

The saber mark glowed bright red. At the same time, the white gem on top of the stone pillar lit up.

Five small circles appeared on the altar floor, shooting up tall beams of white light. The sight startled Agares and made Aoi uneasy.

"What’s happening?" Aoi asked.

Agares stayed alert. This trial felt different. Something powerful had been triggered alongside the appearance of the mysterious beams. Still, Agares had no idea what it meant.

Two system panels appeared in front of Agares, both showing different messages. His eyes narrowed and his brows furrowed as he read what they said.

The point was, there were two different trial options. The first was the Advanced Trial, where Agares had to fight five people at once. If he won, he would gain access to the 90th floor.

The second was the regular trial for the 85th floor. He’d only need to fight one person, and winning would grant him access to the 86th floor.

Different trials, different rewards and EXP. The Advanced Trial offered way more rewards compared to the 85th floor one—that’s because the difficulty was on a whole other level.

Agares went quiet. He understood both trials perfectly. He could probably handle the regular floor trial, like he did before.

But he wasn’t sure if he could survive the Advanced Trial—facing five trials at once was insane.

’What should I choose?’ Agares wondered.

’If I choose the Advanced Trial, I can jump straight to the 90th floor. But I don’t know how hard it’ll be.’

’If I choose the regular trial, I’ll only get to the 86th floor.’

He stood there for a while, eyes locked on the two system panels, still undecided.

Aoi kept watching him. Since she was standing farther from the center of the altar, she had no idea what Agares was seeing.

After thinking long and hard, he finally made his decision—he’d take the Advanced Trial. No matter what, he had to reach the 100th floor soon. He couldn’t waste time anymore.

[Advanced Trial Accepted]

[Objective: Defeat five saber knight masters]

[Duration:]

[No time limit]

Agares jumped back far from the altar and saw five saber knights appear, fully armored and wielding huge longswords. These five masters represented the five trials Agares had to conquer.

Using his vision, he could read their names. The gray knight was the Knight of Silence, the purple one was the Knight of Illusion, the brown one was the Knight of Defense, the red one was the Knight of Wrath, and the white one was the Holy Knight.

Each of them had their own unique combat style, and all of their effects were focused on one target: Agares.

"HYAAAA!" the red knight yelled.

WHOSH!

Flames burst out from the red knight’s body. In a flash, he lunged forward and swung his sword at Agares.

"So fast!" Agares gasped.

He raised Shadepiercer and tried to block the berserker’s power, but the raw strength overwhelmed him.

His body flew back and slammed into the altar wall violently. His HP dropped significantly.

COUGH!

That one hit alone shaved off 3000 HP. If that sword had struck him directly, the damage would’ve been way worse.

It was terrifying.

As Agares tried to get up, he saw the white knight approaching. He dodged the sword strike just in time, but being so close caused his dark aura to be drained, making him weak.

Before he could strike back, Agares was suddenly trapped inside an illusion of a thousand personas. He looked up and saw the five knights multiply into twenty-five. He had no idea which were real.

’An illusion? Is this some kind of magic?’ Agares asked himself.

The purple knight suddenly appeared from a blind spot and landed a solid hit on Agares’s body. Damage panels popped up one after another.

Aoi panicked. She could clearly see Agares struggling—this was even tougher than the trial on the 82nd floor. She doubted he could last, but there was nothing she could do.

Only Agares could beat this trial.

Agares sprouted two black wings from his back and took off into the sky, flying away to avoid them. Luckily, they couldn’t fly, so he felt somewhat safe in the air.

Not taking any chances, he pulled out ten HP potions and drank them all at once. Slowly, his HP started to recover.

When Agares tried to attack using one of his saber skills, his movement suddenly froze as the area around him turned black-and-white, like an old film. He stopped and looked around, confused.

This wasn’t the doing of the white, red, purple, or brown knights—it was from the gray knight.

No sound. No color. No movement. His mind was totally thrown off.

Before he realized it, the gray knight appeared right in front of him without warning. That’s right—his stealth was perfect thanks to the total silence.

The knight raised his sword and stabbed it straight into Agares’s stomach. Agares cried out in pain, trying to break free from the gray knight.

"Akh!"

Blood poured out from his mouth—and from the wound in his stomach. Seeing that moment, the red, purple, and white knights quickly jumped into the sky to finish Agares off.

"AGARES!" Aoi shouted.

Agares’s eyes snapped open, filled with intense dark energy.

"Skill Saber: Nihil Severance!"
