Chapter 99 - 85 (Merry Christmas)

Chapter 99: 85 (Merry Christmas)

Lan Tian lowered her gaze demurely, her attention fixated on his leg. Under the tangerine glow of the lamp, a shadow was cast, akin to the slender, butterfly-like lashes that fluttered ever so slightly, like a dancing butterfly taking flight into his heart, tickling his fancy.

Her nose was as delicate as a hanging gallbladder, her vermilion lips slightly pursed, shimmering with a seductive luster, tempting one to taste their flavor. Every so often, when she raised her head, her eyes rippled like waves, sparkling like stars. Under the bright light, her picturesque features seemed so unreal, ethereal and insubstantial.

He really wanted to pinch her, to see if the person before him was actually real!

"What are you doing?" Lan Tian swatted away the mischievous hand on her face, glared up at him, and said, "What are you messing around for? Can’t you see I’m busy with serious matters? Still want your leg or not?"

"There was a mosquito on your face." It was after being slapped away that Mo Junhua realized his hand had already pinched her face.

Caught in the act, Mo Junhua showed not the slightest embarrassment; lies came out of his mouth as naturally as breathing. Since he’d already pinched, pinching once or twice more didn’t make much difference, especially when there might not be another chance.

Lan Tian flung the white cloth in her hand, and the water in the basin splashed everywhere. This man was becoming shamelessly audacious day by day. Without teaching him a lesson, he’d never learn why flowers were so red.

The corner of her lips curled up slowly, her eyes filled with sly delight, and the allure of Lan Tian’s teasing smile was electrifying. Mo Junhua felt as if struck by lightning, his mind a blank canvas and fireworks burst deep within his brain, his eyes, his heart, seeing only the approaching charmer...

"Hiss!"

Caught off guard, Mo Junhua nearly cried out, but Lan Tian was quick to cover his mouth with her hand, not wanting to give the wrong impression to the family outside.

What a wicked girl! Attempting to murder her own husband!

Mo Junhua’s expression twisted in pain, indicative of the strength Lan Tian used. The more pain Mo Junhua felt, the more enticingly Lan Tian smiled.

Wang Guiyu came in after finishing her meal to check on the situation. Hearing footsteps from behind, Lan Tian immediately let go of Mo Junhua’s mouth and sat up straight, her gaze serious. She took the ointment and applied it evenly over his leg, gently massaging it with her palm to help the muscles and bones absorb it better.

Seeing her son’s pale complexion, Wang Guiyu thought the leg pain was disturbing him. Not understanding the healing process, she dare not disturb them as she saw Lan Tian’s solemn demeanor, afraid to interrupt the treatment. She approached her son with a worried face to comfort him.

"Sanwa, does it hurt a lot? Just bear with it, once you get through this, you’ll be better. Lan Tian’s medical skills are even better than Mo Yuanle’s. Many people in the village have been treated by her, and she has cured many chronic ailments. She cured Third Uncle’s rheumatic leg, and Granny Ma’s hunchback, and many more..."

"..." Mo Junhua felt like a mute who had consumed bitter herbs, unable to voice his suffering!

Seeing that Mo Junhua’s condition had not improved, Wang Guiyu became anxious and naturally assumed the worst. Her face turned pale as she asked Lan Tian, "Lan Tian, what’s wrong with Sanwa?"

After applying the ointment, Lan Tian picked up the white cloth from the basin to wipe her hands, and spoke with utter seriousness:

"The ointment is taking effect. The broken bones inside are fusing and regenerating, causing a slight tingling sensation, like ant bites, tingling and itching. It’s going to itch over time, which is uncomfortable, just like the expression on Brother Junhua’s face. But itching indicates that the bone is healing well, and under no circumstances should you scratch it. Aunt, you need to keep an eye on Brother Junhua from now on. If anything unexpected happens, even an immortal couldn’t heal his bones, and then he’d truly be crippled."

What a little liar!

Mo Junhua’s aggrieved eyes shifted towards Lan Tian. Why would you do this? As if you didn’t know.

Lan Tian felt goosebumps all over, she really couldn’t stand this Mo Junhua; she would rather face the cold and distant him from her previous life.

"You can rest assured, I’ll definitely keep a close watch on Sanwa." Hearing that Mo Junhua’s reaction was a normal response to his leg healing, she felt relieved, having someone suitable in mind, and shouted towards the outside of the house, "Chunhua, come to your Third Brother’s room."

Chunhua in the hall responded and came in. Lan Tian had already re-applied the plaster cast on Mo Junhua’s leg, and with everything here taken care of, it was time for her to head home. The application of the medicinal plaster had taken up one to two hours, all because of Mo Junhua.

"Lan Tian, the medicinal plaster is applied." With no outsiders present, Chunhua returned to being the bright and cheerful girl in front of Lan Tian. After graduating from junior high school, Chunhua had been learning medicine under Mo Yuanle’s guidance up to now.

"It’s done, I’m heading back. I’ll come over to apply medicine tomorrow, and you come to help me. I can’t manage it alone," Lan Tian wasn’t keen on being alone with Mo Junhua.

Chunhua’s eyes lit up at hearing this, "Can I? Uncle said what you learned is different from what we learned?"

Many handbooks passed down through generations were partially accessible to Chunhua, while Mo Yuanle had Lan Tian keep the rest.

Chunhua had also seen the herbal medicine chart, but it was too difficult to understand, not as convenient as learning about herbs directly from Mo Yuanle. Those handbooks, too, were written using medical jargon, and Chunhua couldn’t continue after reading just a few lines—it was like reading a Heavenly Book.

Mo Yuanle had shared with her out of fear that she’d feel burdened, telling her that Lan Tian’s medical knowledge was not taught by him, but all from reading the family’s ancient books, different from theirs. She must not compare herself with Lan Tian as that would be seeking her own doom and shouldn’t try to mimic her, as it couldn’t be done.

Only after seeing those books for herself did Chunhua truly believe that there are people in this world who are born to be worshipped.

Now that Lan Tian was willing to teach her, Chunhua couldn’t contain her joy, nodding vigorously.

Lan Tian said goodbye to Wang Guiyu and left without even a glance at Mo Junhua.

The following evening, Lan Tian came to apply medicine to Mo Junhua, and as expected, Chunhua came to observe. Mo Junhua couldn’t express the frustration in his heart from the missed opportunity to be alone with the girl.

Mo Junhua leaned against the headboard, his hands cushioning his head, glancing over at Lan Tian who was carefully explaining to Chunhua how to apply his medicine.

"Do you understand?" After explaining once, Lan Tian asked Chunhua beside her.

Chunhua nodded and then shook her head. Seeing Lan Tian’s sidelong glance, she embarrassedly smiled, feeling as if she understood but at the same time didn’t.

Seeing her nervousness, Lan Tian patiently persuaded her, "Chunhua, you are too tense. This mindset isn’t suitable for a medical practitioner. I could talk all night, and you wouldn’t remember. Don’t think about him being your brother; you should treat him as your patient, an ordinary patient, just like the elders in our village. Relax slowly, take a deep breath."

Following Lan Tian’s cue, Chunhua slowly relaxed her tense nerves, breathing deeply, exhaling. She imagined that this wasn’t her Third Brother’s leg, but Third Uncle’s leg.

"How does it feel?" Lan Tian observed her expression closely.

"I don’t feel so nervous anymore, Lan Tian please teach me again, this time I will remember." By imagining the person wasn’t her Third Brother, she indeed felt less nervous, and Chunhua’s face was filled with a smile.

Lan Tian explained once more, and then had Chunhua practice it herself, starting from how to remove the plaster cast, with Lan Tian providing guidance beside her, immediately correcting any mistakes.
