The Cultivator's Reborn to 1970s -
Chapter 97 - 83
Chapter 97: 83
Wang Guiyu glanced at Mo Junhua then pulled Lan Tian aside, lowering her voice she asked, "Lan Tian, tell your aunt the truth, how serious is Sanwa’s leg injury? I want to have him discharged and recuperate at home. Will it affect his leg if he goes home..."
She couldn’t finish her sentence.
Lan Tian understood immediately. Wang Guiyu was afraid that Mo Junhua would be crippled. She had already used Spiritual Energy to help Mo Junhua heal his injured muscles and tendons and had also applied Bone Healing Ointment. It didn’t really matter whether he stayed in the hospital or not; in fact, it might even be better for him to recuperate at home.
"This is what we’ll do; I’ll come to your house every night to apply medicine for him. Just watch him closely these next few days and don’t let his foot bear weight. As long as you follow my instructions, he won’t become crippled." If Mo Junhua himself acted recklessly, becoming a cripple could happen in a minute.
"Hey, that’s great, I thank you so much!" With Lan Tian’s assurance, Wang Guiyu was beaming with joy and went to go through the discharge procedures.
After completing the discharge process, the eight hundred yuan Lan Tian paid yesterday was refunded by one hundred yuan. Wang Guiyu returned the money to Lan Tian, who decided to accept it after some thought, to avoid making Wang Guiyu feel indebted.
Wang Guiyu’s family had borrowed an ox cart from Mo Junhua’s uncle’s family. The cart was upstairs, and Chunhua was already down there making the bedding.
It was the third floor, and in this era, there was no elevator; they could only use the stairs. Mo Junhua’s foot couldn’t bear weight; it was best to carry him downstairs.
Mo Junhua’s parents were elderly and of limited strength. They could carry him for a short distance, but from the third floor down, the path was too long, and going downstairs was very dangerous—one mistake and both could be hurt.
Lan Tian was also not confident in the two elderly people carrying him downstairs. Wang Guiyu still needed to pick up the prescription from the doctor and gather various items like the basin, towel, and hot water bottle.
Finally, Lan Tian and Mo Junhua’s father each took one side of Mo Junhua’s shoulders, helping him downstairs with Lan Tian bearing as much of Mo Junhua’s weight on herself as possible.
If it were evening, Lan Tian would have simply carried him down, which would be convenient and safe. But in broad daylight, for a girl to carry a grown man, in full view of the public, would damage her reputation. So, even though it was more trouble, Lan Tian preferred to help him step by step down the stairs.
For Mo Junhua, it was like experiencing both fire and ice.
His entire weight was on Lan Tian, and all he could see was Lan Tian’s porcelain-white collarbone, subtly visible, with the light scent of a young girl drifting into his nose. It was as enticing as a poisonous insect burrowing into his heart, not deadly but torturously itchy.
Mo Junhua thought about pushing Lan Tian away and walking by himself, but he couldn’t bear to let go of her softness in his arms.
That feeling... tsk, tsk, tsk, was too wonderful and ecstatic to dare imagine.
They managed to get down the stairs safely, and, walking towards the ox cart, they reached it. Mo Junhua leaned on Lan Tian’s hand to climb onto the cart. Once he was lying down comfortably, everyone hurriedly took their seats to head back to Mo Village. Lan Tian, while no one was watching, pinched a protective shield onto Mo Junhua’s leg.
Mo Junhua’s father was an experienced handler. Since there was a patient in the cart, he drove steadily and slowly; there was hardly any jostling on the road, and Mo Junhua suffered much less.
Back in the village, Lan Tian didn’t need to lift a finger to move Mo Junhua; his two older brothers picked him up and brought him inside the house. Lan Tian went in as a mere formality to check on his leg and to make sure there was no problem. She then thoroughly instructed Wang Guiyu and a few others on what to pay attention to before heading home.
Grandma Sun, who had returned home yesterday, couldn’t sleep at all. If Wang Guiyu’s Sanwa ended up crippled, she would bear a great burden of guilt.
Hua Zi was still a soldier in the army; if he really became crippled, would the army still keep him? This was supposed to be a good deed, and at most, the army would commend him and maybe award him a merit, but he would have to be discharged and sent home. She feared that she might have ruined Hua Zi’s future. Thinking of all these matters, the elderly lady really couldn’t sleep.
Mo Yuanle was also worried that Mo Junhua would end up crippled and slept restlessly. Zhao Li felt much more reassured seeing Grandma Sun safe and sound. Although she was concerned about Mo Junhua, the thought that the girl was there and that there wouldn’t be a big issue allowed her to sleep soundly.
Early the next morning, Grandma Sun got up, eagerly awaiting news at home. Once they heard that Wang Guiyu and her party had returned, she went to the chicken coop to catch two home-raised hens and went to visit, running into Lan Tian who was just entering the door.
"Grandma, what are you doing?" Grandma Sun, with a hen clutched in each hand, looked anxious as she headed out, and if it weren’t for Lan Tian grabbing her in time, Grandma Sun would’ve just charged over to them.
Grandma Sun had been honest her whole life, never doing anything against her conscience. The agony she must have felt, how uncomfortable it was inside. Just one night had passed, and Grandma Sun looked significantly haggard.
"Grandma, I’ve already checked on him. Mo Junhua’s injury isn’t serious; it’s just that the hospital doctors made it sound like it’s the end of the world. I’ve reset his bones and also applied the Bone Healing Ointment. He should be healed after resting for a few days. You know your own granddaughter; I’m not one to just randomly treat people. Those ointments are priceless outside, he got them for a bargain."
Lan Tian snorted, becoming discontent with Mo Junhua, that troublemaker.
Grandma Sun was amused and her anxiety eased quite a bit.
"What about you, with Hua Zi being so good-natured, you’ve been bullying him since you were little."
Lan Tian couldn’t believe what Grandma Sun was saying. Who was bullying who? How could Grandma Sun see it as her bullying Mo Junhua, when it was always him bullying her?
"Don’t glare, still not convinced, huh! Don’t think that because I’m old, I’m going blind. I’ve seen you scolding people several times; Hua Zi has a good temper and doesn’t hold it against you, and there you go getting carried away! What’s more important, a leg or the ointment?"
Of course, the ointment is what’s important! But Lan Tian wouldn’t dare say that out loud – Grandma Sun might really give her a lesson. Of course, for now, Lan Tian had no choice but to obediently take the scolding.
"Be nicer to him in the future. Is that ointment really that effective?" Grandma Sun asked Lan Tian, her face filled with hope.
"Of course, the ingredients used in the ointment are all precious and the making of it is particularly complicated. If it wasn’t because my uncle twisted his leg and took months to recover, I wouldn’t have bothered to make it. I only made two bottles total, just to keep at home for emergencies. Grandma, once Mo Junhua is healed, you can ask his mother to get the rest back."
Of course, Lan Tian said this jokingly. Grandma Sun gave Lan Tian a look, but felt much more at ease in her heart.
Zhao Li, seeing that the situation was resolved, let out a sigh of relief. The house was full of people, suffocatingly so; finally, it felt like the storm had passed. She came over to call the two for breakfast.
After breakfast, the family of four, carrying the old hens and some mountain goods, went to visit Mo Junhua. At Mo Junhua’s house, only the elderly couple Wang Guiyu were at home. The other family members had gone out to work in the fields; they couldn’t stop farming just because there was a sick person at home. What would they eat in the future otherwise?
The elderly couple of Wang Guiyu welcomed the visitors, and the group went to the hall to talk.
In the hall, on the left side was a room. The room was bright and clean, showing signs of regular cleaning.
Mo Junhua lay in bed reading a book, having only reached the first page when he heard voices coming from the courtyard. Mo Junhua had good hearing and recognized that it was Grandma Sun and Mo Yuanle’s group coming over.
Everyone sat in the hall and the elder Wang couple finally had some joy on their faces, unlike yesterday when they heard the news, looking as if their world had collapsed.
Grandma Sun and the others, seeing the elder couple’s improved spirits, relaxed and inquired about Mo Junhua’s condition. Hearing that he was getting better, joy appeared on their faces.
Zhao Li handed Wang Guiyu two hundred yuan, patting her hand, "We’re finally at peace now that Hua Zi is getting better. He only suffered like this because he was saving my sister-in-law. It hurts us to see him in pain. This money is a token of goodwill from our family, for Hua Zi to buy some nutritious food to replenish himself."
"We really can’t accept this money," Wang Guiyu refused, being someone who wasn’t very articulate, her tone dry, "You have already spent hundreds of dollars yesterday, we can’t take more of your money, and Lan Tian didn’t even charge for setting his bones!"
"Just keep it!" Grandma Sun also persuaded, "Money is a small matter; we can always earn it back. Hua Zi’s leg is the real issue, it’s for life. Buy more pig trotters to stew for him, eat what replenishes."
Ultimately unable to convince Grandma Sun and Zhao Li, Wang Guiyu accepted the money reluctantly, sighing in helplessness, "It’s nobody’s fault really, Hua Zi just had bad luck. If anyone is to blame, it’s the driver. Driving with his eyes closed, he hit someone and ran away, his conscience must have been eaten by dogs — I wonder if the police have caught him yet? His heart deserves to be ripped out."
